- Suburi is a fundamental sword movement. It is the foundation of one of our Kenjutsu kata and it teaches us to program our movement according to Principle. As Kuroda Sensei once told me, "people are misunderstanding kata. Kata is not about real fighting, kata takes us into a different world." The mind and body are accessed in a fundamentally different way in classical Kenjutsu. The kata are there so that we can consciously program our mind and body in these movements. So when practicing this movement, no twisting of the body, no twisting against the ground, no lifting, the origin and foundation of the movement is your Center and learning to connect everything to that point.
Great to see you're still teaching.
Training with you & Sensei Seigo Okamoto is still a cherished memory & learning experience.
He changed my aikido for the (much) better in one Systema workshop.🤯
Engaging with his three times was like an epiphany.
very very helpful
thank you for this
Great to see this on RUclips sensei.
Blessings sir' from Systema Miami.
the living legend!
I cannot cut with first iai, from sky to ground in a rapid enough/fast enough path Of travel, cutting from the draw. So this should be my routine I'm guessing.
Remember that the cuts originates from your center. When you tie the body movement into the cut it is much easier to be efficient.
@@SystemOfStrategy yes sir, after you. I can only thank you for your intellect.
Are you still involved with Bugei trading co? Any projects on the horizon?
Nice bokken. Is it custom made ?
Yes.
Love the videos, hate the sound system. So hard to hear.
Just picked up a lapel microphone so we will see how it works.
@@SystemOfStrategy Sir: I wish you would do a more extensive video explaining forward movement without the weight shift as you touched on in your System of Strategy dvd. No matter how many times I’ve watched it, I just don’t understand it. More my failure to understand than your explanation. Jeff
@@jeffcaptain6738 Some things need personal physical contact to really understand. Words are heard subjectively physical contact is much more objective.
@@SystemOfStrategy please try anyway as you could reach more of us.
@@jeffcaptain6738 In Philadelphia teaching a seminar this weekend, I will endeavor to elucidate.
You may have something valuable to me - but I wouldn't know. I can't hear a thing.
