I went to Charles Dickens secondary school in Broadstairs many years ago in 1970, have been in NZ for fifty years now , i still miss Thanet and Broadstairs thanks !
Broadstairs is the nicest place to visit in Kent. It's like going back in time to a gentler England. Sitting in The Albion enjoying a drink looking at the sea. Great fish and chips. The Chapel bar where you can choose from dozens of local ciders surrounded by second hand books, which you can read and even buy. It has quite a few festivals throughout the year. It has a strong Italian influence with all it's ice cream parlours.
I like the tip of giving the tip on where to park, Broadstairs within the Isle of Thanet is one of the best coastal towns, don't get me wrong, Ramsgate and Margate are also good.
I lived in Thanet for 20 years. Last 4 years I lived in broadstairs. It’s by far the best out of all the Thanet resorts. My Nan and grandad always holidayed here (Londoners) and my dad was based at RAF Manston for years so have been visiting the area since I was 6 months old. Glad you loved it. ❤
Jack 18 years ago I moved out of London to the Isle of Wight. Why I never went to Broadstairs I don't know. Broadstairs is Heaven on Earth. MORELLI'S ice cream is to die for. I used to stay along the Western Esplanade a number of years ago, nowdays all the Hotels that used to be along the Western Esplanade are now flats. Thank you for showing us Jack 👍👍😁😎
Thank you for such a lovely review. Broadstairs is my home and Stone Bay is my favourite place on earth. So glad you love our beautiful watering hole, in the words of Charles Dickens!
I have only been to Broadstairs ones, it's a bit of a walk to the train train station to the sea front. It's worth if people don't want to drive. I remember EastEnders was film in Broadstairs, think it was up on the cliff you start. They is good to see that they have a history museum of Charles Dickens. They used to have Dickens world in Rochester that got closed down a few years ago. I think you said in one of your videos that you live up that way.
Grew up in Ramsgate (which is now a tip) and Broadstairs was the "posh" place. The Tartar Frigate pub was the fave, and eating at Marchesi's was the famous Italian restaurant. I wonder if they still do the Dickens festival. That was big in the 60's. Definitely a favorite spot since most of the east Kent coast is falling into disrepair.
As a real cider enthusiast, for the last three years I've holidayed in Ramsgate, and Broadstairs is only 15 minutes on the bus. Four pubs sell cider: The Royston, Mind the Gap, The Magnet, and The Chapel. The New China Inn briefly shown (10:24), is fantastic value, Chow Mein and a drink around £8-£10. I don't stay in Broadstairs because hotels are probably dearer and it lacks a Wetherspoon where I usually have breakfast.
Just spent a weekend in Broadstairs and although we didn't really explore it, we really liked what we did see...Felt like a very traditional old English seaside town..very pretty. Looking forward to going back.
I just moved from North London to Broadstairs. I'm a few minutes from town centre such as it is. It's a fantastic place and I can walk along the cliffs a few minutes from my new house.
I'm about to leave South London and maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a new home in Broadstairs tomorrow too. Can't stand the city any longer and this area looks fantastic to me...

Not the kind of experience available to most people in this mad mad world. Thanks for your post, you captured the beauty of our little gem, and there is plenty more to love about Broadie.

You can still go on Louisa Bay between these dates with a dog but it has to be on a lead, but from Dumpton Gap leading round to Louisa Bay, the dog can be off lead all year round. It's a lovely place. Or should I say, was! Born and bred and live here in Margate, 43 years. Sadly over the last 5 years it has become a horrible place to live! Once a beautiful and peaceful location with lots of countryside and trees, now ridden with horrible new houses, poorly designed roads and awful traffic, so over populated, it's a headache living here now. I wish people would stop building more houses here and taking away our land and peace. If you are thinking of moving down here, avoid!
I loved Margate in the 50s, our parents could leave us safely on our own until we met up at the designated post on the front. We also visited Cliftonville, Ramsgate and Broadstairs. Everywhere has changed so much, but I am impressed how clean Margate appears today. The fish and chips look good and I wish I had visited before moving away from the east coast. I enjoyed this well presented video, thanks.❤
You're totally right. I'm born and bred Folkestone, and it's gone much the same way. Too much house building. Used to love coming up to Margate when I was a kid, going to Dreamland, and then later to watch bands at the Britannia up the top of the hill.
I used to go to “Joss Bay” years ago, but years since I was at Broadstairs. Love the aerial view of the landscape. Fish and chips looked massive. It’s unusual that you get defeated by that Jack. I love the video definitely would be one of the places to retire with all the historical facts around you. thanks Jack. It looks beautiful there XX
My favourite place in the world. Come here every August for folk week. Partly for the music, much more for the atmosphere, pubs, shops, beach etc. It’s a lot different to your video though, the whole town is PACKED!. Worth a visit then to compare

Broadstairs is such a lovely part of the South East coast. Great beach and amenities. It does get rammed on a hot summer day, though, and parking can be a nightmare. Get there early!
Bleak House has pineapples too! Definitely need to check out Broadstairs! The weather has been so great this past week. Much better than last year around May. Thank goodness!
@@jackryanmiller I used to live there, had a wild time! In Nantwich now, if ever you're filming in the North, I'll take you around. All the best with your travels mate. 😊
It's been beautiful to see broastair, a beautiful sea cost.Bleak house where dikens had written David Copperfield is fabulous, moreover bleak house was another novel written by Charles Dickens. The town is attractive by it's sea,the seagulls humming tones, the market, the church, everything is outstanding and beauty,it an ideal place to have retreat and vacations
I've lived in Thanet for well over 50 years and Broadstairs has always been my favourite town. Ramsgate used to be lovely but everything touristy has gradually disappeared from it. It's definitely getting better all over Thanet in recent years but Broadstairs is still my favourite - there's so much of it to explore. I've said before that if we didn't live here we'd come to Broadstairs often for days out in our camper. You made it look even nicer! Edit: You need to visit Sandwich!
Thanks very much for your comment. It’s weird I’ve been going to Margate for years but have been missing out on Broadstairs and Ramsgate! Sandwich and Pegwell are both on my list for this year 😄
I can see why you liked it so much! The sea looked a little suspicious in your drone shots though, maybe that's one of the many places that sewage is being dumped in the sea
Hello Jack, Thanks so much for being in Broadstairs so soon after your call to name destinations. You have made me very happy. The place is just as marvellous as I remember it. I was especially pleased that you had your cappuccino in "The old curiosity shop". I love that shop. A little tip, if you're there again, go to the toilet. It's worth it :-) . I would even suggest you make an appointment. Sometime between 09 and 16 August. That's when Folk Week is on in Broadstairs this year. Really highly recommended. I really hope we can make it to Broadstairs again this year, with a bit of luck in October or November. And who knows, maybe we'll see you at Dumpton Gap and your dog and our Bernese Mountain Dog will have fun at the beach, while we enjoy a hot tea or coffee together. Thanks again for the great video and best wishes from Germany Grimm PS. Are you filming with the DJI Osmo Pocket 2 or 3?
Thanks very much for your comment! I was planning to go anyway but we had some amazing weather last week and I had to get out there! It really was fantastic so thanks for the recommendation. I hope you make it back to Broadstairs soon. I actually did use the toilet in the coffee shop ha ha, it was like an old cupboard. I am using a DJI pocket 2 but after seeing reviews I think I need to invest in the newer one as it looks fantastic 😁
@@jackryanmiller Hello Jack, I can really only recommend the Pocket 3. The larger monitor alone is a game changer. The only drawback is that the old Dji Mic can no longer be used, so you have to buy the Creator Combo again. See you soon Grimm
Did you know Dumpton Gap was used to be called Dodemayton, I think from the Dutch Dodeman (dudeman). A much nicer moniker. I vote we campaign to have its original name reinstated. As for the secret garden, friends used to live there. It was amazing to sit in the garden and hear all the beach goings on just beyond. A truly magical place.
@@jackryanmiller it's an absolute gem; I love it. When I was recovering from illness three years ago I convalesced in B'stairs - it was fantastic. Also worth investigating Westgate-on-Sea (just past Margate). Charming station and a lovely old cinema, too.
Well, I'm not a local from Braodstairs, at least not yet... Have a viewing for a new home there tomorrow and while I'm just checking out the area I found your video. Thanks for your tour! I hope it works out well tomorrow with the flat, plus I hope the weather will be still great tomorrow as well to spend some time at the beach, while I booked a return ticket to London for the late evening... It really looks like a fantastic area! Maybe I'm a local soon... I just left you a sub. Maybe your videos give me a better clue of in what country I live since 7 years, by now I know kind of only London. About time to change that... ;-)
Thanks Pete that sounds great and I hope it all goes well and the weather holds out for you! I’d say even if the weather is a bit off this place would be great. Thanks so much for subscribing too 👍
@@jackryanmiller Hmm, well... life is sometimes a bi..a..tch..! Just an hour after my message here yesterday the landlord told me that he changed his mind about letting the property, so it won't be my new home... Too bad, but so be it! While I had the train tickets anyways and I didn't want to let them go to waist plus I had nothing else to do on this Sunday I just made a day at the beach instead, mainly Viking Bay. Dang it, what a beautiful, lovely friendly town! The weather was on my side, heavy rain at the morning, dry to sunny all day and now while I'm home it's raining again. At least I was able to take a swim in the North Sea today for a change... ;-)

Try the Thai food call Siam Thai Restaurant, in my opinion one of the best Thai food I had ever eaten. I travelled around the world too but my husband chose Hythe , I like Broadstairs too. If u have the chance visit Hythe, lovely place with canal and sea.
Just curious. What is sh.ithole about Cliftonville? I mean I'm used to Croydon and that is a sh.ithole for sure! Gonna be tomorrow the first time ever in Broadstairs and maybe I move to there soon. Would be good to know about areas to better avoid there and why... Cheers

I love how the sewage clings to the shore line! Just kidding, There's been so much bad press about the water companies dumping sewage in the sea when they shouldn't.

Definitely one of my new favourite places! 😄
@@jackryanmiller I used to live there, had a wild time!
In Nantwich now, if ever you're filming in the North, I'll take you around.
All the best with your travels mate. 😊
First time I watched your video and I just wanted to say 'well done' 👋👋👍
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that
Been to The Dickens House Museum. Lovely
I’ll have to give it a go next time
Looks lovely
It really is
Spent all our holidays there when kids where little xxx
That’s great, I hope this video brought back some memories 😃
It's been beautiful to see broastair, a beautiful sea cost.Bleak house where dikens had written David Copperfield is fabulous, moreover bleak house was another novel written by Charles Dickens. The town is attractive by it's sea,the seagulls humming tones, the market, the church, everything is outstanding and beauty,it an ideal place to have retreat and vacations
Thanks for checking out the video! I totally agree, it’s an amazing place
Hello! Local here. Great vid 👍
Yessss love hearing from the locals 😁😁thanks so much
Local here - Harpers Bar is THE place to drink in B'town 😎
Hey thanks very much I’ll be sure to check it out 😃
The sun not yellow anymore?! Broadstairs is gorgeous, thank you 😻 Shame about the chem trails. Joss Bay was bliss back in the 60s 💯
I bet it was! Thanks very much for your comment
Oh yeh man I did think that actually while editing 🫨 it wouldn’t surprise me
I would NOT recommend swimming in the sea. Sewer pipes aplenty pumping out into the sea.
@@jackryanmillerthat was just sand that makes the sea look like that, that’s why it’s just in the shallow parts
Yep have southern water to thank for that the 🤬
Hello Jack,
Thanks so much for being in Broadstairs so soon after your call to name destinations.
Thanks again for the great video and best wishes from Germany

PS.
@@jackryanmiller Hello Jack,
I can really only recommend the Pocket 3. The larger monitor alone is a game changer. The only drawback is that the old Dji Mic can no longer be used, so you have to buy the Creator Combo again.
See you soon
Grimm
Looks lovely, never been there, time to head down there on my motorbike
Yes! Would definitely recommend it. Thanks for watching
You get a big like from me as you walked past my holiday home!
Thank you, that’s great!
You are correct Jack, that is Joss Bay, on the far side of the North Foreland lighthouse.
Ah yes and I’ll be properly visiting there very soon 👍
Did you know Dumpton Gap was used to be called Dodemayton, I think from the Dutch Dodeman (dudeman). A much nicer moniker. I vote we campaign to have its original name reinstated. As for the secret garden, friends used to live there. It was amazing to sit in the garden and hear all the beach goings on just beyond. A truly magical place.
I didn’t know that, but that’s so cool. I’ll look forward to visiting Dodemayton soon 😎
@@jackryanmiller it's an absolute gem; I love it. When I was recovering from illness three years ago I convalesced in B'stairs - it was fantastic. Also worth investigating Westgate-on-Sea (just past Margate). Charming station and a lovely old cinema, too.

Greetings from Texas!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
Well, I'm not a local from Braodstairs, at least not yet...
At least I was able to take a swim in the North Sea today for a change... ;-)
Looks gorgeous
It really is fantastic, I wanna go back now!!
Nice vlog good luck with the channel . ❤
Thanks Jimmy that means a lot 😃
Lovely..............
It is very lovely 😄
My late dad and step mum lived in Ramsgate (step mum still there).
I really want to go Ramsgate!
@@jackryanmiller it’s not bad! Typical slightly run-down Victorian seaside really. I have friends in Frinton on Sea too and had family in the Southend area. Spent a lot of my youth around there. Lots of lovely seaside in the UK. Currently living in South Wales. Some lovely places here.
You walked past one of my all time favourite restaurants...Posillipo. The other one is Sardinia , across the road.
I am an ex millionaire and have been all over the world , so I don’t say that lightly.
My wife and I absolutely love Broadstairs. We hope to live there one day. Thanks for the video.
Try the Thai food call Siam Thai Restaurant, in my opinion one of the best Thai food I had ever eaten. I travelled around the world too but my husband chose Hythe , I like Broadstairs too. If u have the chance visit Hythe, lovely place with canal and sea.
Ah thanks very much, I’ll be sure to look those restaurants up!
Love the area
It’s amazing isn’t it
Its not bad in Broadstairs. Im in Margate and its not what it used to be. Very run down in the town centre and absolutely needs updating
Oh yeh I actually really like Margate, it’s always been my favourite seaside town
Cliftonville is just around the corner and it's an absolute sh.ithole.
Ha ha I had always heard Cliftonville was the trendy area 🤣
Just curious. What is sh.ithole about Cliftonville? I mean I'm used to Croydon and that is a sh.ithole for sure!
Gonna be tomorrow the first time ever in Broadstairs and maybe I move to there soon.
Would be good to know about areas to better avoid there and why...
Cheers
The Tartar Frigate - finest pub in the whole wide world.... just thought I'd mention it.
Lovely thanks, I’ll be sure to pay a visit 😁
I went there in 2007, it was nice
It really is a great place
You should have gone to Joss Bay! It is lovely.
Thanks, I will definitely go there next time 😄
Btw, you need to do Ramsgate to complete the trio.
It’s on my list of videos to make for July 😎
70 years was in a convalescent home after an operation in tite street children's hospital Chelsea in the day we had NHS and children got go to convalescent homes
ssshhhhh, don't tell everyone.... I lived locally, miss it like crazy since I moved away.
I can definitely see why it’s amazing
Just be careful if you park in the harbour carpark at high tide as the sea splashes over the wall into the carpark!
Ha ha I can imagine! 🤣
Louisa Bay is the birthplace of a game known as sandball!
They need sandball at the olympics!
Local advice as of 2024, the Fish Inn has the best value fish and chips of good quality. Star of the Sea has the best chips but not a huge amount and pricey.
Thanks very much for the recommendation
I’m glad you said “Costa” “No”.
Ha ha I don’t like the chains 😆
Broadstairs is full of swingers. Don't ask me how I know that but let's just say I made my excuses and went back to Margate.
Ha ha brilliant, would have never guessed it 🤪
Broadstairs is lovely. Been there a few times.. Are you based in Kent? Good video 👍
Thanks so much for checking out the video. I’m based just on the edge of London so very close to Kent 😃
@@jackryanmiller Very handy for you 😊
Everywhere looks nice in the UK when the sun is out! 😂
Ha ha my latest video on Hayling Island is a prime example of what it’s like when the sun ISN’T out 🤣
I love broadstairs
It’s a fantastic place 😎
I love how the sewage clings to the shore line! Just kidding, There's been so much bad press about the water companies dumping sewage in the sea when they shouldn't.
Ha ha I’ve seen about that actually and then when I watched my video back i saw what looks like sewage ☹️
@@jackryanmiller Hi jack like your video , it looks a nice place, but there was a protest on Brighton beach the other day against the water company's dumping sewage into the water when they were not meant to.It probably isn't sewage. thanks for the reply.♥
