Nice work. Love the paint. Jonesin' means "feeling a deep and/or desperate need for" - not a common Canadian phrase. Example: I'm "Jonesin' for decals that adhere to details". It originated in the U.S. in the African/American community in the nineteen-thirties. Personally I can honestly say "I am jonesin' for organic baked taters with coconut oil soft skin" and that would be true. I am near the end of a 231 hour build and I am slowing way down - deep breath and whatever you do don't say "don't mess it up"!!! My karma is instantaneous hence...
Wonderful stuff, Lou. A builder that can admit mistakes and think them through and make them better gets my respect. :) I scratchbuilt,(using 1:350 Enterprise parts) a USS Reliant and it was incredibly difficult, but ultimately rewarding. Wish i could share pics. :)
Really enjoy your model building ,great ideas and how to,I mostly enjoyed you Irwin Allen model build ,grew up watching many of the older shows, any future builds of models from those older shows ,keep up the great work
Wow, what a complex build this has been!! Even the painting of this model has been complex. Great job though Lou and it truly does look awesome. That Red Dwarf ship looks so cool!!
Wow It's like watching a Bob Ross painting lol at the beginning I was like, "No! WHAT is he DOING!?" And then, by the end I was COMPLETELY enthralled and was like, "Oh my Goddess, that looks AWESOME!" So, Well done, mate! 🖖
Looking great, Lou! Glad you aren't rushing it. We all know that model building is a marathon and not a sprint. Can't wait to see the stunning conclusion!
Wow! What an awesome build. I watched the series of Carywn building the Red Dwarf. He did such a great job. I was wondering if you bought it. He said it's for a client.
Startling! A great, fun week. I gotta tell you, Lou-- every video I hear things I want to take some sort of action on. To wit: if you ever write your autobio, you gave yourself the title: "The Naked Saucer" !!! AND, good Lou, should you predecease me -- something I surely hope not for -- I swear I will seek out your headstone and put some red pin stripes on it. Everything is looking so darn good. The only thin I would have done differently is to attach the roll bar with nuts and bolts. I would have done some eyeball analysis and sunk some small-diameter bolts in the saucer top-- aligned some holes just so in the "landing spots of the roll bar base, then carved off a flat in that leading edge. If all goes well, the hole and the flat spot would meet perfectly (and when I say 'well' I mean with divine intervention). That way, it would be possible to force down that bendy roll bar as well as remove it and replace if need be. Then, sculpt over the nut area. It really is remarkable how you've closed in on that elusive light blue-gray overall color. When lit, the model looks really real.
Gorgeous! I agree that the "squashed" name looks a little better than having all the letters spread out. You mentioned getting a big ol' can of satin clear. What are you using for satin/gloss clears?
Lou, now that you are rounding third and nearing home, how long do you think it will be before the folks at Polar Lights announce a 1/350 kit of the Reliant? Considering the sow's ear of a resin conversion that you started with, she is turning out to be fantastic!
I'd be surprised if PL didn't make an announcement within the next year. I think, though, that a lot of what happens will depend on the newer shows unless someone at CBS or Paramount gets a clue and realizes that fans want merchandise tied into pre-2009 Star Trek. The Kelvin-verse Star Trek is officially DEAD now that the fourth film in that series fell apart and next-to-nobody wants to buy product tied into STD. McFarlane Toys had licensed a deal and done an actual mockup based on props from STD but pulled out of that deal when they realized STD product wasn't going to sell. That show has been a disaster for CBS since day one. The powers-that-be would be smart to let PL market a new kit based on a ship people actually WANT to build. My other suggestion would be that somebody could do a variant Reliant model kit based on the ORIGINAL intended configuration of that ship. You do know that Reliant was intended to have the nacelles ON TOP of the saucer and not below it, don't you? Those blueprints have been published online. I don't think the original Reliant design had the rollbar the way we see it on the model today, either.
Hey Lou, I`d like to buy one of your mask but I can only see black ones on the online shops. Are they any different to what you are using in your videos? The yellow ones? Thank you
everything is yellow now. the black vinyl is what I started with and i painted a lot of my earlier kits with that, but I switched to the yellow a few years ago. It's just that I haven't gone back and painted new versions of the kits since then. I still choose black for strictly window mask sets because they are stickier than the yellow which is nice for the small window shapes and since they are going on clear parts, there is no threat of lifting he paint
Howdy Lou, I'm knew to your channel however love what you are posting! A silly question from a noob, do you sell the masks you create and how can I find them? Thanks.
Yes, I do sell them. most of the times thru online hobby shops such as CultTVman , Federation Models or Starship Modeler. the more specialized items for smaller run kits I sell myself. you can contact me at aztekdummy@att.net if there is a particular ship you are interested in. This Reliant's masks are not available quite yet, but I should be able to have them ready pretty shortly.
Lou Dalmaso Ah that is so cool, I have fishing through CultTVman's shop and wondered if that was one of the places you sold through. some how, seemed appropriate. have you thing for the "wee-liant"? I just picked up one today. and thanks for your time sir.
3 more of the smaller Tamiya jars. ( my hobby shop doesn't carry the large jars #@$$!@!$!) one to mix a 15% gray, one to mix a 30% and one to leave white
The Red Dwarf model is gorgeous!

Pretty good Bullwinkle at the end.

Oh, I would love to have that Red Dwarf model...
Top work Lou! Steady as she goes your mask set is really making this build look the biz.
Whew! This is an incredible build. I'm exhausted and I'm not even building it! Haha! Great work Lou!😁
Awesome work Lou!
Wow, Karwyn!
Polar Lights why are you making Lou suffer? Produce the kit already!
Beautiful work!
Looks awesome! Waiting for next week and the Red Dwarf is So Cool! Keep up the amazing work.

Really BEAUTIFUL WORK Loucif!!!
Great model Lou!
A week 7 , awesome :D
Few, I was getting worried about you. Although it's 3am here so I'll catch up tomorrow 😉
That's a beautiful thing.

since i plan on being cremated, I should have said "urn" not tombstone. On the bright side...easier to pinstripe!
wel looks good to me and all that filly stuff drive me nuts but got it dun will see more
Gorgeous! I agree that the "squashed" name looks a little better than having all the letters spread out. You mentioned getting a big ol' can of satin clear. What are you using for satin/gloss clears?
Beautiful work. Inspiring. Question: what is your choice for your satin coat and pre-decal clear coat?
plain old Krylon satin clear
Looks wonderful! However, shouldn't the RELIANT decal at the rear of the planetary sensor be facing the same way as the NCC-1864?
nope. it follows the grid line just as is. I wish I could post a ref pic here. do a quick google search for "reliant filming model" and you'll see
You should do a refit
Hello fab work on this kit, hey may I ask do you sell Enterprise 1/500 into darkness model aztec decals ?

Lou Dalmaso I just found it. thank you very much!!
So, how much white paint did you end up buying? Morbidly curious...
3 more of the smaller Tamiya jars. ( my hobby shop doesn't carry the large jars #@$$!@!$!) one to mix a 15% gray, one to mix a 30% and one to leave white
That's impressive coverage for those 10ml jars. You're doing great! Looking forward to seeing the final product...
Lou, What are you using for paint tape ( the yellow tape ) ?
It's frog tape. From wall mart
👍👍👍👍👍
