    Why not just use a regular curtain rod at the top of the window and then cut a shower curtain to the size of the window and tack it at the bottom so you don't have to cover the whole shower wall. It's just like a regular curtain only it's a shower curtain that only covers only the window, it'll look much better, work just as well, and of course will only cost a few dollars. That's what I did with the window inside the shower of the older house that I bought, it works great, and looks better than a full second shower curtain that covers the whole inside shower wall. It's something similar to consider if this is your situation as well.

      just have to make sure it covers enough because as he showed the trim on the sides was rotting as well and had to be replaced.

    • @robertkees6048
      @robertkees6048 9 месяцев назад

      @@nathanielmorey2800 Well a shower curtain is presumably much larger than the window, so you can trim it to whatever size that's needed to protect the wood underneath. One would hope people would be smart enough to understand that aspect. If the window was already rotted due to lack of a solution, that's a different issue. But once it's fixed, the curtain idea works very well. I have zero issues and the window ledge stays bone dry. Also it's painted and protecting the non rotted wood underneath. Cheers.

    Double shower curtains like this will stick to you while you shower. Great cheap fix, though.

  • @kcohen7394
    @kcohen7394 3 года назад +3

    This does not work. It still traps moisture on the other side of the shower curtain and the window still gets rot and mold. I thought I was brilliant to think of this but it didn't help at all. These shower windows are the worst.

  • @pl2604
    @pl2604 Год назад +1

    Put a clear curtain on the shower too - the UV light going through it will kill the mold and bacteria from growing on the shower or slow it down by a lot

    So I've had a shower curtain over the window for a year and a half and it's done nothing. Mold is still growing in the window just as fast as I can clean it off and I'm certain that it's rotted where I can't see it. Does anyone have a better solution??

      We have the identical situation, using a window curtain but will have a full bathroom makeover, so will be sealing the window trim likely There are many good RUclips videos on the topic. Window-wise, I don’t think it will cost us $200 to waterproof. I may make some videos of the process, too. Dave

      Maybe you created a sandwich of two barriers and the curtain is not letting enough air ventilation behind it. Move the curtain further away from the window. Also your problem may be from a different cause.

    I just moved into a new apartment which has a shortened shower curtain over the window and last night I took my first shower in this place. That window shower curtain stuck to me so I tried to stand away from it and it still found me. How can you keep the shower curtain closer to the wall / window?

    • @2010jakem

    Should you also tile the ceiling? I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt to raise the curtain to prevent water from getting on the top of the wood framed window also.

    LOL YEP. This is basically our bathroom, except ours is pink, hee. Luckily the former owners put in a solid shower curtain rod, and it's fine. And while I'd love to refab to a more modern finish on the tile, it's in great shape, so (for now) it stays. :-)!
    Nice, easy solution!

    If the curtain is cut shorter, do you think it would stay in place or would the water move it around, and window still get wet? I was also thinking of just putting a plastic 'curtain' the size of the window. Feedback appreciated. Thanks for posting.

    hmm no, the humidity will fuck your bathroom and the rest of your house... The only way is to open the window and put a fan. But when it's winter, you're fucked unless you don't care wasting money on heating. That's why modern houses have vents in the bathrooms and kitchen.
    I'm actually looking for a way to put a fan with some kind of valve in the window of my bathroom, but anyways cold will get in...
