  • In this video, we address John 20:17 where Jesus told Mary Magdalen not to touch Him. This prohibition has created debated within Christian circles and scrutiny from critics for such a command coming from the Lord's own mouth.
    Here you will come away with what is likely the most reasonable and coherent understanding of Jesus' statement and how it plays into the post-resurrection period before His ascension.

      U R correct in ur translation and understanding of "touch me not" U R in error however of ur last statement of WHERE the holy spirit was poured out on the Day Of Pentecost! It was IN THE TEMPLE at 9am (an hour of prayer) NOT IN THE UPPER ROOM, that the gift of holy spirit was poured out on the 12 apostles.

    One thing that would actually help people with issues like these misunderstandings. Go to the source, when Jesus told Mary "not to touch him" that is not what was actually said in the Greek texts. Jesus tells her to stop clinging to him and go tell the disciples. This is a big difference and is just a translation issue.

  • @olgasmith28

    Jesus was seen many days after his resurrection and he would not tell Mary 'Not to touch him' for the sake of time. I find as a Christian woman so many ministers under intense pressure from society to not be seen as a 'shovenist' that they will go through long emotional explanations to explain certain scriptures in a very 'equal & unshovenistic way', however in God's word there are very clear and distinct differences, roles and positions for women and men. It is Not about one being less or more than the other, it's all about order. In heaven as pertaining to salvation there will be neither male or female. Rest assured here on earth there are clear biblical directions as to the order of husband and wife and family as well as clear order in the church. Its Holy it's His word and it works beautifully!

    It was because Mary Magdalene loved the Lord so much and did not want to let go of him. She had just witnessed his horrifying crucifixion. He loved her too, and this was a tender moment that is getting lost in translation. He meant do not cling to me, as to hold on too to tightly, as he still had to ascend to the Father. He appeared to her first.

    You validated my interpretation of this verse when I translated it into one minority language. Your explanation is more thorough, though. Mine was simply the the exploration of the nuances of the meaning of the word that was translated in English as "touch." It's more of holding to restrain, not just ''touch," as you well explained. Thank you.

    CHRIST is called 'the [sheaf of the] firstfruits', in 1Cor.15:20,23; which connects HIM immediately to Leviticus 23:10_12 !
    *HE* is the sheaf that was waved before The LORD YHVH, to be accepted on our behalf, on the day after the Sabbath (JESUS' Resurrection day) [John 20:17.]

    In a spirit form a spirit is not allowed to tough a human as the is not feeling . He had not had a change in state yet. The question is not why he didn't allow her to tough him but why she was selected to give the message to the Apostles and why he appeared to her first. Only a translated being may tough a human and have the human have sensation. There are but 3 other reasons as well

      I also wonder when it talks about him, ascending to the father did he ascend to the father before the date several days later, when they all watched him from the seashore? Some people are talking like that’s the ascension he’s referencing but i had gotten the impression that he was doing the ascension to the father prior to that. Being that he had a new kind of body that could travel from one dimension to another is what makes me see it this way.

    Alright smart guy, great video ! was wondering where u was going with this but I see u brought it back to the original caption, now food for thought, maybe, just maybe, Mary her self was unclean due to her monthly at that particular time. Paul himself says that’s the only time a woman should be separate. Originally He healed her or rather she sneaked and touched and power was released to resolve her Issue of 🩸 Blood. There is also another school of thought that the actual resurrection wasn’t complete, meaning he had to be fully in Heaven in the presence of the Father so that all power & authority could be transferred to him, so that he could return & minister to his disciples for 40 days & then ascend as he did with the promise of the Holy Spirit to come.

      Greetings young Zy, you are referring to a period in the O/T called the Bronze Age, commerce, Democracy and civilization weren’t as advanced. Times and distance travelled was difficult and many people found it hard to support themselves, this gave rise to Barbarians, Armies, Kings and their Provinces that we’re being constantly overrun by stronger kingdoms and lawlessness. In an effort to stabilize the nations God chose Israel to make his will known to the nations as we would later learn in the Nee Testament. Nations went into captivity including Israel & the 12 tribes, God allowed them to be taken captive by Babylon due to their disobedience, to the obedient Remnants he allowed the same captors to show them great favor and proved himself faithful even in their hardships. A pattern of kingdoms conquering kingdoms continued until the Romans brought some stability to the period and some humanitarian laws that were mainly geared towards the citizens of Rome, if I may call them that, laws were put in place by God for the less fortunate or weaker people in captive or slavery. It was far better for a slave to be found useful on account of intelligence, industrious abilities or even beauty. It was customary and permissible by God, not his perfect will, but permitted for families to pass off or sell their Children that is of age as male or female slaves to perhaps give them an opportunity to thrive in an hostile environment and times. The text suggests that they were even performing intimate relations towards their masters based on how well they were treated and or how fairly and honorably they served or were liked or even loved. We remember the story of Nehemiah and his niece Ester who were subjects of the king, Ester as the scripture reveals was a beautiful woman who was preordained by God to be married to the king and was used by Devine interventions to save the Hebrews from mass extinction. God was concerned about them as orphans and the fatherless to the point where he made decrees concerning them being treated fairly. God in no wise is supporting pedophilia or Polygamy but understood that his creation was evolving and knowledge would increase after his incarnation that would lead to many industrial revolutions and a time such as this where you could sit in the luxury of your home and question these events.
      Understand and know that you are participating in your own creation for good and eternal life, God is not enticed by evil.

    Here's why she couldn't touch Jesus! Outside the Tomb, Jesus didn't want Mary touching him because he didn't want Mary creating a seen. Roman soldiers would have noticed this and noticed it was Jesus, ALIVE. What he most likely said was I'm not dead yet, Mary. How they recorded it was, "I have not yet ascended to my Father". They both mean the same thing.
    When Thomas touched Jesus, it was behind a "locked door". See, he didn't appear, or reveal he was already in the room, to them until it was safe to do so. Once the door was locked. Just like on the road to Emmaus. They didn't realise it was Jesus leaving town incognito. He would have certainly not survived crucifixion twice. Surviving it once, was already a miracle.
    Jesus is the lord. We shouldn't have to make him impossible to believe his teachings.

    • @JustScriptureMinistries
      @JustScriptureMinistries  2 года назад +3

      The Roman soldiers on guard had flees the scene from the angelic appearances. There’s nothing in the texts that you mentioned that suggests any concern on Jesus’ end for Roman soldiers.

    • @StefanMusicHuntley
      @StefanMusicHuntley 2 года назад

      @@JustScriptureMinistries there is no evidence anywhere in history of Roman soldiers reporting such things. They would of been killed for leaving a tomb where a ghost scared them away from their exact job, to guard the tomb. Essenes wrote the Gospels using a true story to tell a deeper story. Eusebius said "Our Gospels are the sacred writings of the Essenes" or Therapeutae/Theravada of Alexandria. Philo called them "Physicians of the souls".
      I believe the miracles are pointing to something else that's going on. Unlocking the church within the reader.

    • @JustScriptureMinistries
      @JustScriptureMinistries  2 года назад +2

      There is a handful at best of scholars with questionable objectives who think Jesus and early Christians were Essenes.
      Easy reason why they were not was because they were not allowed to enter the Temple complex. Josephus lays that part out. Jesus and His followers always entered the Temple during festival times. Essenes rejected the calendar and festivals at the Temple because they saw it as corrupted and following too close to the pagan calendar.
      I would appreciate if you can back your quotes up with what actually work and link to those quotes to read myself.

    • @StefanMusicHuntley
      @StefanMusicHuntley 2 года назад +1

      @@JustScriptureMinistries I will. Let me gather those for you. I could for now just tell you to simply read the Dead Sea Scrolls and you will see obvious parallel saying and practices Jesus championed, that the Dead Sea Essenes, and the Therapeutae of Alexandria Essenes in Egypt shared, as well as the Nabataeans who are a much bigger part of the story than people realise. For instance, they refused to take oaths or swear upon anything. They were practicing baptism, they would seek the lost lambs, fatherless children that were not theirs and educated them. They were vegetarian like James, Jesus's brother, leading most scholars to believe Jesus was a vegetarian. There's so much more to certainly say Jesus was Essene than not. They are the only group not mentioned in the gospels and the writer favors Christ, obviously. Why? Because the Essenes wrote the Gospels. The white robs on the mountain at the Transfiguration, Mt. Carmel, not Mt. Tabor, was the white robs worn by Essenes. I personally believe Jesus was rejecting his own people's beliefs on this for not including the deaf, lame, and blind into their schools. Essenes lived on Mt. Carmel. The evidence is overwhelmingly obvious. But I will gather links and reply to this comment for you. I am enjoying debating this with you so thank you and God bless.

      Many of those are Old Testament rooted. A clear distinction between the two is salvation and dualism. Essenes we’re hard core dualists and saw adherence to the Law as the way to be saved. Neither of these are what Jesus taught.

  • @Michael_the_Servant

    I see this differently, let me explain, and correct me if you think I am wrong.
    Touching someone’s feet was different than touching elsewhere on the body, because feet were to be washed when people arrived at a destination, strange to us but cultural to Jews of Jesus’s day, even to the point that there is a story in Luke chapter 7 about it, so probably a spiritual reason for this, including places discussing feet of fire.
    Mary probably wanted to embrace Jesus, causing touching to places other than his feet. This would have made Jesus unclean in a spiritual sense as Mary was spiritually dead, because she was not yet born again. Touching something dead makes one unclean at least until evening (the next day), or in the case of a dead man’s body, seven days, but Jesus needed to remain clean that entire day.
    See Jesus still had to present Himself and the 144,000 that came out of the Tombs (Matt 27:50-53) as the Lamb and the Firstfruits for the fulfillment of the Feast of the Firstfruits was that day, in accordance with Leviticus 23:10-12.
    Later that day, to us and those who base a day at midnight or sunrise, Jesus presented Himself to the disciples, but according to God it wasn’t the same day, because it was evening, and evening is actually the next day scripturally. Thus why in Genesis chapter 1 a Day is Evening and then a Morning. Jesus came and appeared to them and was touched the day after the Feast of Firstfruits. (John 20:19). It was evening, then making it scripturally the second day.
    Thus Jesus had ascended and already presented the 144,000 without blemish so that the entire harvest would be received, then Jesus returned as He was sent by the Father (John 20:21).
    This means there was an ascension on the Feast of Firstfruits and another ascension 40 days later, and therefore the scriptures do not conflict.
    The primary reasons people dismiss this is they have to accept the Feast Days, Sabbaths, and Sunsets are important to track which the majority of believers do not do. Also they have to see some of the book of Revelation as covering the past which again the majority of believers have been taught a 100% future interpretation.

      I think the word choice of Jesus is about Mary Magdalene not clinging to Him and not associated with ritual uncleanness.
      As for the 144,000 (Rev 7/14) are you seeing other chapters as past events?

      Just Scripture Ministries,
      Yes, chapter 4 through 14 have taken place, so we are between chapter 14 and 16 right now.
      My view of Revelation is not one that I was taught by anyone. It is something that was revealed to me by the Holy Spirit, at least I believe it to be, and I’ve tested the Spirit (1 John 4:1), and the scriptures seem to verify this. Now, I am looking for another individual that has also received this, because there is no private interpretation.
      See John’s writing of Revelation is God fulfilling what he stated others had to do to prove that they were gods. In Isaiah 41:21-23, God lays it out that those that wish to make a case that they are gods must state what they have formerly done and what things will come to pass, so as to know the latter end of things.
      Revelation chapter 4 through 22 is a linear series of events from beginning to end of creation, with overlapping chapters depending upon if it is seen from the earthly or heavenly viewpoint. The book is everything God has done and will continue to do in the future.
      There are three Ages (~2000 years each) followed by a Millennial Reign. The First Age (Seals) was from Adam to Abraham. The Second Age (Trumpets) was the Age of Israel. The Third Age (Vials/Bowls) is the age we are now in.
      The scriptures back this up in typology and I’ll share just a few of my many references.
      Noah sends a Dove (Representing the Holy Spirit) out from the Ark. 1st week it found no place to rest, 2nd week it rested upon the Olive Tree (Israel), last week it didn’t return as it went into the whole world.
      Jacob serves 7 years for Rachel, gets Leah. Serves another 7 years and gets Rachel. Offers to serve another 7 for payment of wages, but the Lord has him depart in the 6th year, a year early.
      The Rapture (early departure) takes place at the 6th Vial/Bowl, and the words “Behold, I come as a thief” even appear in Red Letters, and the vial/bowl shows a Separation of Body and Spirit with the Spirits like Frogs.
      If you have deeper questions, feel free to ask. This isn’t a broad understanding, it has much depth to it.

    Lol...nah, dont cling on to me because he no longer was hia spouse, different then the others touch. Again Rabbi means that he was married. And Mark 15: 47 spills the beans... She and his mother were the only ones to see him being layed at the burial, a common practice only for immediate family members. Look up 1st century jewish burial ceremonies...youd be shocked.

      YESSS 1. First, we'll remind you of the story of the woman anointing the head and feet of Jesus in what was seen (and condemned) in Jewish culture as being a sensual, suggestive and highly inappropriate act.
      John's gospel account is the only one that does not see this as some sort of sacrilege against Jewish tradition. The only seemingly way to explain this is if this woman, who is identified as "Mary," was Jesus' wife. ("Mary" was a common name in those days, which has added a lot of confusion to historic accounts; but, then again, the name "Jesus" was also a common name.)
      We know that the other gospels were "shaped" to meet the personal, political and religious needs of the early church. Possibly the account in John, which appears not to be based on the same shared documents as some of the other gospels, was somehow left relatively intact.
      2. Remember the story in Luke about Martha, Mary's sister, rebuking her for sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening to him teach? Recall that in those days women were not supposed to be educable and this act was highly unusual, if not totally inappropriate -- especially within Jewish culture.
      But, Jesus defends Mary's act, suggesting that she has been selected for a higher role than attending to domestic (womanly) chores.
      Maybe this is not really startling-until you consider that Martha does not talk directly to Mary (her own sister), but asks Jesus to tell her to "get to work."
      In those days husbands held the power over their wives and if you wanted to get them to act, you would request that they do so through their husbands. Possibly this is just another clue that was missed by Bible redactors.
      3. Next, is the suggestion that Mary, the sister of Martha, was actually Mary Magdalene, portrayed in the scriptures as the leader of the female disciples that followed Jesus all the way from Galilee.
      Only wives and prostitutes would follow an itinerant band of men. Contrary to the later trashing that Mary Magdalene would get from a Catholic pope, as we've noted there is no evidence anywhere in the Bible that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute....which leaves only...wife.
      4. "Mary" (not further identified) refers to Jesus in the scripture as "my lord" and "raboni" in the fourth gospel-titles in Jewish society as only being appropriate for a wife addressing her rabbi husband.
      5. Contrary to popular belief, there never was a city called "Magdala" from which Magdalene was supposedly derived. But, there is a Hebrew word, migdal used in the Bible that refers to a tower of great significance.
      The word also implies a great person or great figure. "Mary, the great," or "the great Mary," might be translated as "Mary Magdalene" (things sometimes got a bit twisted in the translation process), a phrase writers may have originally used to describe Mary, the wife of Jesus. In this instance the scriptures seem to rule out this being Mary, the mother of Jesus.
      Very much related, there is scriptural evidence from Jesus, himself, that Mary Magdalene was the "one who understood" [the most esoteric dimension of his teachings*]. And scriptures say that she was the one that "Jesus loved the most" -- even to the point that the other disciples were jealous. (The fact that she was a woman in that era of Jewish culture only made it even worse!)
      6. Some Jewish historians have pointed out that marriage was an expected part of Jewish culture at the time and it would have been unusual for Jesus not to have taken a wife. This would have made it an important fact to include in the gospels -- but, as we know, nowhere is it mentioned.
      7. After his death, Mary was allowed to visit the tomb of Jesus with his burial cloth-an act that under Jewish tradition was reserved only for family members, such as wives.
      8. Finally, after Jesus arose from the dead, the first person he appeared to was reportedly Mary Magdalene. The reason, according to some scholars, was that Jesus knew that this Mary would be grieving more than anyone else. Thus, he singled out his wife (or consort) for special consolation.

      Well I'm going to ignore your theories and I'm going to go with that simple rule of thumb,"if it ain't in the bible I don't want it".
      Nowhere in scripture says "Jesus Christ has a wife and her name is Mary Magdalene".

    If you're correct that means a human could interfere with or stop the Gods' plan. That can't be correct. It's this simple fact, Jesus told Mary not to touch him because it would have harmed or maybe killed her.
