Surely a matter of scriptural interpretation? Acc to NIV: 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. " Hold has a different meaning

Dr. Hahn what then is the relevance pertaining to Mary not touching him when he said: 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” What then has not touching him got to do with him not having yet ascended to the Father?

17. “Don’t cling to me.” The use of the present imperative (mē mou aptou), literally “Stop touching me,” probably implies that she is already touching him and is to desist; however, it can mean that she is trying to touch him and he is telling her that she should not (cf. BDF, §3363). We have translated the continuing aspect of this imperative by “cling,” so that Jesus is asking her not to hold on to him (see BAG, p. 102, col. 1; ZGB, §247-perhaps the same meaning should be given to the verb aptesthai in Luke 7:14). Dodd, Interpretation, p. 4432, argues that it is the aorist of this verb that means “to touch,” while the present means “to hold, grasp, cling.” (Brown, R. E. (2008). i looked up the greek--it just says do not touch me . jesus had tobe pure from human touch to present himself to the father that day when he went back to heaven into the holies to present his blood before god on the ark in the holy temple

This is a pretty old video so maybe it’s a bit futile to hope for a response but I wonder if this could be evidence of the realist quality of the intermediate state. Before ascending to the father he did not want to be touched. After he returned in a glorified body he could be touched. Not the strongest argument, I know, but I’m curious if there is any work done on that perspective? Thx! Grace and peace :)

Scott, I think you've talked about the reason why Jesus' age was 12 and not 13 when he went to Jerusalem at the Finding of the Temple, but I cannot find it. The "Son of the Law" (Bar Mitzvah) ceremony is 13, but you made mention of why Jesus was 12. I want to say you linked it to Jesus' not having an earthly father. That is, the fatherless child was considered an adult at age 12. Obviously, we know St. Joseph was present at that time, but as a scriptural technique, Luke is pointing out the fact that Jesus' true father was God, the Father. Is this correct?
As other comments have pointed out, you can't separate that line from the rest of it "for I have not yet ascended to the Father." I've even heard someone say it was because "his body wasn't done transitioning yet" I think that's a little far fetched - that's not necessarily what he's referring to by saying he hasn't yet ascended to the Father, the simplest explanation is just that, "do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father" means "we still have work to do. You go and start telling people, and l'll go institute confession and the great commission and I'll see you in heaven. That's where you'll get to "hold on" to me"
Prof. Tim Gray says he thinks the difference is in the ordained touching him vs the unordained... kind of a proof for women not being in the priesthood. You can get this in Prof. Tim Gray's sessions on the Gospel of John on EWTN.
This speaker failed to inform the audience of a Jewish practice called “negiah” in which members of the opposite sex are prohibited from touching one another. Mary would have clearly been overjoyed to see her teacher resurrected and full of emotion and she may have wanted to give him a hearty hug and kiss upon seeing him. Christ (being a righteous servant of The Most High) politely asked her not to give in to her emotions but instead channel her joy in to informing the others of his return…
This practice of “negiah” is further cited by St. Paul as a righteous manner of conduct (for Christians) and he mentions it in 1 Corinthians 7:1.
This Abrahamic practice is also observed by Muslims and they are often unjustly criticized for it in Western countries…. (ie men not shaking the hand of or hugging women who are not related to them)
Mark 5: 21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.
Luke 7 36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.
37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume.
38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.
47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
She was not a Priest.
That is so gay!
