I finally painted my first Death Guard Mini and I used your instruction for most of the steps, but with the Vallejo Starter Set (plus Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil). Although it took me waaay longer (I really need a bigger brush XD), I am quite happy with the result. I especially like the first dry brush step (I simply mixed grey+green+gold) and this was the first time I really practically understood why certain colors were used at certain times to get a certain result. Its in my opinion my first mini that just doesn't look like a little toy, but like a serious...uhm...piece of craftsmanship. Without being too enthusiastic, I really feel that I (finally) climbed one step higher on becoming a better Mini Painter, and your tutorial assisted me in doing so. Thank you very much.
Good to see a painting video not restrained by the BSF color scheme. Not that the BSF models weren't awesome looking, but it's nice to see your work when you're not shackled by the false Emperor of a predetermined palette.
You are by far my favorite 40k Paint Channel, your calm, casual, and friendly voice and demeanor, as well as your straight forward and easy to follow tutorials make painting mini's much less stressful, fun, and easy for even most beginners to follow and make something that will look pretty darn nice on a tabletop P.S i also LOVE the 90s 40k aesthetics and love that you show us tutorials that help include some of that 90s look and feel to new molds!
I had a smile on my face the entire time watching this. I've not painted a miniature since 2003 and seeing these videos takes me back to the days I used to paint for hours at a time, either listening to Machine head or A perfect Circle. I cannot wait to pick up my first squad of marines and paints again and approach my painting with knowledge that I didn't have access to back in the day. Thank you for these videos matey, they really capture the love of the hobby so very well and help returning veterans like me back to the grim dark :)
Revisiting this episode today as I'm just plain tired of the traditional death guard paint scheme and am actively attempting to think outside the box for painting my favorite chaos faction. Just what I needed to see. Thanks for all you do Guy.
Guy your videos are the best you got me back into painting minis and I feel like I learn a lot from watching helping me improve my painting and enjoy the hobby, so thanks! Please keep doing what you do!
primed my hole Deathguard army white and wanted to do the weeping legion color but this looks so badass, that i am really doubting myself now. You did an awesome job on painting them. Love how you showed each step in the video, you really make this look easy. Really glad i found your channel
So, Just getting into the hobby and these videos are my favorite! The right amount of nonsense, skilled, and straight forward. Also bonus point for the musical aspects! Keep it up!
Also, never thought of trying Kromlech's bits for Death Guard, which I must do now, I am a fan of their plague demon models, albeit they're quite oddly scaled for Warhammer, just a bit too big for champions, but too small for daemon princes.
I’m not sure why but I just rewatch this video all the time, watching it all come together so effortlessly is mesmerising. Absolutely love the end result on these
Wow! I always thought straight out of the tube metals looked too glittery but You found the perfect metallic color! I would've never thought to mix gold and pale green. This is probably your best work yet
I used some of the concepts in this video and I loved it. I mixed Abaddon Black with a bit of Retributor Armour and the metallic black I got out of that for my Plague Marines fit perfectly! It actually amplified that whole "gross and worn out" aesthetic with their armor. I only started painting mini's a few months ago, but there is a huge difference now between my earlier Black Legion marines and the new paint style. It looks like I jumped from beginner to painting grim dark. Amazing work my friend!
I’ve just recently started doing some Death Guard and found them to be great palette cleansers. So ended up getting a box of Chaos marines but until now wasn’t sure how I wanted to paint them other than leaning towards the drum dark style. This video has inspired me to kit bash some of them with Death guard! Think I may lean towards the death guard green as a base coat and darken it up. Probably do a test model to see. Love the look of yours 😊
I know I’m a bit late to the party, but great job on the models. This has given me inspiration to buy a whole new squad of plague marines for my death guards and kitbash them to make them look like this and use this scheme. Those kromlech parts are hard to find but totally worth it! Keep up the good work my friend!
I’ve got a massive Death Guard army and have recently started a Black Legion army as well. When I got the CSM Codex and saw the Bringers of Decay I knew what the leftover Plague Marines were gonna be used for. That way I can bolster the amount of marines I have in the BL army without buying more kits.
Can't stop watching this video over and over again. It's like reminding me of the first Warhammer 40k thing I ever read, it was Mortarion's origin story. I was hooked after reading first few paragraphs. Just like I'm hooked to this video now, and can't shake the thought of buying chaos minis.

If it wasn't hard enough in the first place to not buy the new Chaos Space Marines or the Death Guard, you come and make this video! Curse you! Great job :D
My friend got me the resin Death Guard torso and shoulder upgrade from Forgeworld and I am going to use them for my Black Legion. This vid is a really nice inspiration to help when I do those. Great work again. I loved that single eye lens as it stood out so well against the armour A.
Midwinter Minis I am painting a CorpseMakers force with the newer models but the resin Forgeworld and older Chaos Marine parts will go well together for these style.
Very cool. I have the DG half of the DI box waiting to be painted after getting rid of my originals (didn't feel like stripping) and finding a good deal. Good to know that they kit bash well!
Don’t know how this never crossed my mind to kitbash the new death guard and black CSM kits. I love the look of the new CSM but feel the death guard can be a bit too much at times... but kitbashing the two kits finds a really nice balance of nurglishness to the marines. Love it man!
Yeah, exactly! Sometimes you have to sacrifice those weird half-pauldrons the monopose kits have and be a bit brutal with your snippers, but having spares on hand really helped cover up the nasty bits ;)
I want to thank you, I just came across this vid. I want to paint up some orcs for D&D and was struggling with the armor. This armor technique is exactly what the Dr ordered.
Love the tips in the video, going to use this for my black legion guys. First time really doing any painting on models. Nervous but excited. This video really helps
Very awesome. If they weren't so expensive I'd buy these packs to build these guys. Love them all! This is the third video of yours I've seen. I'm now sub'd 🙂

Looking forward to hearing more music, seeing more videos, and well done!
Thanks Kal! Yeah, it's those little bright touches and details that keep it interesting I suppose, and the depth of the dirty black metallic helps too :)

Oh my god that intro. Also thanks for the free shipping ricc, I don’t care that I live basically right next to the store, I’m just too lazy

But I still go to the store :D
