  • Hope you enjoy this clip of the last few months of the Santa Fe. Most of it filmed in Arizona, with a few clips at Barstow CA, and some spots in western NM. The BNSF was formed is September 1995, but the actual merger didn't take place for final approval until December 31, 1996. But there are a couple clips in June of 96 that already have BNSF lettered units.
    The reason for the hold-up on the merger is on the Wikipedia Site about BNSF. " The merger of the operating companies was held up by issues with unions;[23] ATSF merged on December 31, 1996 into BN, which was renamed the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company.[24]"
    BNSF Railway
    BNSF Railway Company
    Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. created on September 22, 1995, when BN bought AT&SF’s corporate Parent. Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway merged into Burlington Northern Railroad on December 31, 1996, and BN renamed Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway. Name shortened to BNSF Railway Company in 2005.

    I have a DVD called,"Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe mainline memories" the DVD has a lot of shots from the Santa Fe when the railroad was at the beginning of the end. This video and that DVD kind of makes me wish the ATSF still existed today.

    People associated the sante Fe with Arizona, new mexico, Colorado, etc. But it was equally at home on the south side of Chicago 22nd street ( China town) the sante Fe coach yard, diesel shop, and it's world headquarters on Michigan ave in the loop, watching the CAP
    (el capitan) coming from California as a boy was WONDERFUL👌👌👌👌👌

    i have always heard that the merger was September 21st and 22nd 1995 and that it became offical on December 31st 1996. this is why the units already being lettered for BNSF makes sense. Also i don't think the concept of DPUs started being tested till 1998.

    • @1jackdk
      @1jackdk  3 года назад

      That is correct. This is a clip off the Wikipedia site why it was held up. The merger of the operating companies was held up by issues with unions;[23] ATSF merged on December 31, 1996 into BN, which was renamed the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company.[24]

    Thanks for posting the Gallup and Seligman subs! I run both and it's great to see how much they've changed since '96.
    At 9:31, where you standing on the giant boulder off Main 1--with a track spike nailed in at the top?

    • @1jackdk
      @1jackdk  5 лет назад

      Thanks HDK. Its amazing how much has changed. It must be great running over those subs. I got the chance to ride from Prewitt to Lee Ranch, and got to opperate coming back from the loader to the power plate. That was fantastic. I might need to post that video one of these days. I do recall standing on a boulder, but I don't recall a spike nailed in the top. Thanks for watching...
