I wish the merger didn't happen... or at least let the Santa Fe liveries still stay. They're so much more appealing to look at than the modern orange & dark green liveries they have now.
If only, right?
Santa Fe it would not be noBNSF
Because you want to make some new train
I think the BNSF scheme represents most of the merger railroads, especially H2. You have the orange for the GN, a modified ATSF herald, Grinstein green for the BN and silver for the Burlington. SP&S and NP might have some representation somewhere.
Yeah, it's hard to get everybody in the one paint scheme.
Man, I wish I could travel back in time to see this kind of action. The ATSF was an absolute classic.
Yes, it was.
Thank you for the great footage, I have a soft spot for dash 7's. Those C44-9W super fleet engines look good brand new with fresh paint.
The train community is so nice. This is a good video showing the final era of the wonderful railway. Thanks!
You're welcome.
I remember as a kid waiting for the end of the train to see the caboose
Miss them myself as well.
Uploaded on my 16th birthday!
Lead unit at 2:02 is now part of the Royal Gorge tourist railroad here in colorado. also it was filmed on the same day as the Waco siege ending, as the compound was set on fire.
Lead unit at 9:45 is the highest numbered C41-8W on BNSF.
20:27 filmed the day after the Oklahoma City bombing.
Wow! I had no idea.
What number is 9:45 as the Bnsf?
@@NS8101PROD951
21:05 sounds like the F45 was lagging or had some engine trouble
Big time engine trouble brewing.
Yeah, that loco was not long for this world 🌍.
That could’ve been the Dynamics struggling to work, or that could’ve been a engine problem. Those SD45-2’s had some issues with them during their operation periods. But I think it was the SD45-2.
The amount of smoke pouring out of it in the next clip tells that she isn’t running right. F45’s rarely smoked as bad as that
True enough.
Wild to see all those 4 axle units hauling mainline freight. And cabooses. Thought that would last forever back then.
Glad to see a GP30 working the yard in my time living in the Springs it was D&RGW 3011 also a GP30 loved the looks of them and the D&RGW thanks for taking me back home again.
Thanks for showing so many of the blue locomotives with the yellow cabs and lettering. Those are my most favoritest.
That Footage Is The Santa Fe #5202 Diesel Locomotive From Railroad Video Quarterly Issue #9
hell yeah! my compliments sir
i wish i was around to see this railroad in action! i live on the east coast, but id gladly go west to see what remains of this railroad
The Santa Fe was indeed amazing.
I lost my two favorite railroads to the merger, Santa fe and Burlington Northern It's sad to lose all those fallen flag railroads that once existed when I was a kid.
Yeah, it's sad.
I recently caught a Fakebonnet old ex santa fe warrbonnet pretty neat this is so nostalgic seeing what it once was the good old railroad days will always hold a special place in my heart.
Me too!
They were proud looking motors when new..........
Wonderful video! The Santa Fe is one of my top 5 favorite railroads.
Thank you 😊
What a historic railroad. I wish I was alive then to see it in person. If something similar happens to Union Pacific Railroad, it will be remembered just like Santa Fe Railroad is remembered.
Funny thing, like the UP, we all thought the Santa Fe would last forever. Your warning is well taken. There's no guarantee that the name Union Pacific is eternal.
To be fair, the Union Pacific of today isn't the original UP. When the Rio Grande and Southern Pacific merged in 1989, they took on the Southern Pacific name. And when they merged with Union Pacific in 1996, they took the UP name because the UP name has better brand recognition. @@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos
Yes, not the classic UP anymore.
Should have been up/santa fe. Bn/sp/cnw\drgw
We lost all the great schemes in the 90’s mergers. Anybody wants to find hundreds of former yellow bonnets warbonnetts cascade greens vomit executives, Sp bloody noses, go to Houston, port of Houston, and the deadline Galveston loco yard. There still there. In Beaumont you will catch a cascade, a yellow bonnet and a sd60triclops in bnsf H1 all working a local most days. Ten years from now I’m sure they will be gone and it’ll be all sd70’s. Can’t stand aces and GEVoS anymore
Thanks for letting us know.
Well the final era is on BNSF you can still sometimes see the old Warbonnets and bluebonnets that every so often lead a train 😔
Yes, it's always a pleasure when one of those comes around.
What a sight to see all the Bradley armored vehicles lined up like that
See more trains

im telling you bnsf needs to make a heritage program like repaint a ES44DC or a sd70Ace to Santa fe warbonnet colors
Yes!!!
I wish that Santa fe still was in 2022 but a newer model ES44AC model :(
I understand.
"Santa Fe Railways the Final Era 1992-1996"
*sad music starts*
8:24 Why so aggressive to the camera he literally threw something at it like a railroad spike
It was a fusee.
25:35 Did you know that you saw this train 5 days before that Metra train hit that school bus in Fox River Grove, Illinois?
I didn't know that.
Why are there so many tragedy dates commented on this video? There's a tragedy every day.
People talk about what they feel. I think it's okay
I was born in 2000. Just after what I call the national railroad consolidation. So many companies and paint schemes and other things disappeared in the 90s. I was born just to late to witness it. But these videos let me know what it would have been like 10 years earlier
Yes, I can't believe it's been more than 20 years.
Everything is a trade off.
My first photoed trains were Penn Central.
I have seen a lot.
And I am not getting any younger.
Yes, I more than understand the problem.
Two great things that made America great the Santa Fe Railroad and President Trump
20:22 - That's my birthday! April 20.
Cool 😎!
6:59 kicking cars... don’t see that anymore
So true!
I've seent CN do it, and a private chemical plant.
Let's just say it's increasingly rare
16:34 A mighty machine that speeds down the hill!
Walt Loevy, why did Santa Fe rebuild Amtrak's SDP40Fs as SDF40-2s?
They regeared them for freight service.
I’m 104th
My grandfather was an engineer for Santa Fe back when they were still using steam. He left me some great pictures.
I'm glad you held onto those treasures.
In Early 2000's i installed and tested many remotes on old Santa Fe's for the BN....
😎 Cool.
I miss the 90's. Fun to watch some Geep 30's shoving.
I miss the '90s too. It was an historic time.
Awesome! This video is really underrated.
14:02
Hot loads rollin' for the coast, we’ll be there in three days! On the Santa fe
Santa fe all the way!
Indeed!
i love this, especialy the desert ones.
Ah, the much loved Santa Fe. We had the SP in the south and Santa Fe in the north of Arizona, my favorite railroads. I would have loved to have seen the SPSF merger. At least Santa Fe is still present in the bnSF, Southern Pacific was given a much worse fate being erased by UP.
Indeed! I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
It reaches from Chicago to the city of L.A
3000 miles of ties and rails make up the Santa Fe
A product of blood sweat and tears it's number one today
It's Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way
A big ol freight just left the yard burning up the rails a headlight gleams and a whistle screams a lonesome sounding wail
Hot loads rolling for the coast we'll be there in three days on the Santa fe Santa Fe all the way
A million gandy dancers were spiking down the tracks when the future of our nation was riding on their backs they came through in flying colors and it's still that way today on the Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way
Well a big ol freight just left the yards burning up the rails a headlight gleams and a whistle screams a lonesome sounding wail
Hot loads rolling for the coast we'll be there in three days on the Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way
You can take it from old johnny, I've rode those railroad tracks from fort Madison Iowa to the corwith yards and back
When you read it on a boxcar believe it when they say it's Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way
Well the big ol freight just left the yards burning up the rails a headlight gleams and a whistle screams a lonesome sounding wail
Hot loads rolling for the coast we'll be there in three days
It's Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way
Ride that Santa Fe Santa Fe all the way ship and travel All the way Santa Fe all the way from the windy city to L.A
The Santa Fe lives on as BNSF
Very poetic. Even romantic 😍
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos It is John McCollum's lyrics to the song Santa Fe All the Way
Well written, even without hearing the melody.
I like the Santa fe warbonnet paint scheme
Nice to see train cars BG (Before Graffiti)
Yeah, those were good days.
Walt Loevy, do Amtrak's SDP40Fs run very well?
I don't think everyone always thought that.
Walt Loevy, what happened to all the Santa Fe F45 locomotives?
I know one went to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL. Most others were probably scrapped.
Santa Fe still lives on as BNSF.
I appreciate your optimism.
Walt Loevy, did the train at 15:24 have the BN #7224 and ATSF #5260 helpers at the end?
Yes. The helpers cut off at Palmer Lake and then headed back to Denver.
Santa fe is one my favorite . Even got 2 GP9 red WARBONNETS with my Santa fe passenger train
The Santa Fe was a great railroad.
Walt Loevy, why were you seeing lots of BN locomotives on Santa Fe trains?
I don't know for sure. Railroads sometimes leased engines from other railroads.
There mixed i think
Hello from Kansas 🇺🇸
Howdy 🤠
At 20:5 minutes of the video that wired noise was coming from the 4th santafe train and it was blowing a lot of dark smoke
Yeah, that F45 was hurting.
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos I wonder what caused the f45 to do that
It was dying.☠️
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos I am going to do a minecraft video on the f45 and the other locomotives
Sounds great! I hope it goes well.
We had Santa Fe go thru Iowa in Fort Madison
As a native of Colorado Springs where I grew up and lived for 43 years it was great to see these videos from places i know so well and took thousands of photographs over the years. Now retired living in Spain so the memories are fond and I'm thankful to those who took the videos and for them being compiled and posted. Many thanks for the memories.
I'm glad you're so pleased. Those were good days.
I worked on the code line upgrade project that helped make the merger.
Wow! Thanks for letting me know.
Great vid thanks
I'm glad you're pleased ☺️
Great footage of our hometown as well as the great Santa age of my memories. Gp30 switching in the snow squall is by far the best. Awesome as always! -
J Psalidas
I'm glad you're pleased.
Wow very cool
Great compilation but I wish there were some clips from Northern California.
What I've got is Southern Pacific Amtrak UP West Coast Trains 1991. You can find it in my 1990s playlist, if you so desire.
My dad worked for the Santa Fe for years, said the merger was the worst thing to happen. They called it the green cloud. BN was a shitty railroad he said
I'm sorry it went that way as well. I was always a big fan of the great and historic Santa Fe Railway.
Walt Loevy, what are the helpers doing at 16:33?
Walt Loevy, this looks like a little astronaut at 15:59!
Now I'm sad that Santa Fe came to a close but they have just worked with the BNSF
End of an era, for sure.
Now in days those catch’s would be legendary super cool video
Thank you 😊
Walt Loevy, this looks like a little astronaut at 15:59!
i dont understand how people can get old footage and post it on youtube. some of these trains are dead or scraped. (RIP santa fe)
I have a playlist for contemporary train shows if you prefer.
BN and ATSF were the perfect match for competition with UP.
Good point ☝️
what a great variety of power...and oh, those beautiful Warbonnets!!
Yes, that was a short but wonderful era of railroading.
Great footage and production. Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
I grew up in Wichita Kansas and remember seeing the Santa Fe railyard there and seeing their trains.
Excellent railroad.
21:05 that engine needs help
I can't believe it made it over the Palmer Divide in one piece.
Cool
A lot of memories GREAT show long live the ATSF Colorado !!!!
Thank you.
I like the red green and yellow before the merge. Now its all just orange
Yes, faded orange 🍊 a lot of the time.
I miss the Santa fe I love the liveries especially the war and the yellow bonnet
Yes, it was a fine railroad.
Santa Fe and rio grande were my favorites, Burlington northern had a reason to make a merger, but southern pacific made those rio grandes dissapear. Southern pacific merged for no reason. (I think)
SP desperately needed a merger partner during the 1980s. When an attempt was made with Santa Fe, but failed, they grabbed the Rio Grande.
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos so what was they reason of why SP merged with rio grande? Were they having the same problem with Santa Fe? Were they going bankrupt?
Yeah, SP was in deep financial trouble and needed to be rescued.
16:34 22:52
Wonderful video! Santa Fe one of my favorite train :)
Me too!
8:25 ... was that a fart sound?
Great video Walt! I’ve grown up watching your train videos, I love every one of them. Thanks for uploading!
It's a pleasure.
Great video Walt! I’ve grown up watching your train videos, I love every one of them. Thanks for uploading!
I appreciate your loyalty to the channel.
So what happened in 1992 that defined the "final era"? I'm guessing ATSF merged with BN in 1996.
How many years do you think should represent the final era of the Santa Fe?
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos I don't know. I think the merger is a good place, the year when the locomotives began sporting that "BNSF" logo awkwardly stenciled on top of the "Santa Fe" logo.
I have another video, BNSF the merger years, that better fits the time period you described.
The Rio Grande truck crane is awesome.
Lucky shot. Thanks!
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore, not like they did back in 1954!
Sometimes they wave. But maybe not as much.
Mostly it's at the cellphones these days!
True, my friend thanks,CHRIS
At 8:26 what did the engineer throw towards the camera?
A fuzee.
My favorite Railroad of all time!
It's a winner, to be sure.
I love Pre merger Railroad Videos
I love making them. Thank you for your encouragement 😊.
I have a relative who is a BNSF hoghead. He had been a ATSF employee before the merger. He still calls his railroad the Santa Fe.
I don't doubt it. I often refer to rail lines by their predecessor railroads. I think a lot of us do.
I can remember the D&RGW steam L-105's working this stretch of rail.
What did the engineer throw at the cameraman at 8:25?
The engineer tossed a flair stick with his contact information on it. He wanted a copy of the video.
did they get the copy of the video
Yes.
Do you still have the flare?
22:52 22:53 22:54
29:02 Just awesome. The best one.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
The Santa Fe Railway merged with the Burlington Northern to formed A Burlington Northern Santa Fe on September 21st, 1995.
That is not correct. The merger was approved on September 21st 1995. Full incorporation into the new BNSF system took around a year. By the end of 1996, BN & ATSF were no more.
Oh god what the hell is up with the first horn?
Maybe a repair or replacement of the original horn. But I don't know.
Walt Loevy yeah. It kinda sounds like a Leslie RS3C/RS3P but those are so rare that it’s doubtful
Actually I think that is a RS3P
You could be right 😉.
RS3P at 0:17
Is that a horn 📯 type?
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos yes

Thank you. Yeah, I think that's a great sounding horn.
So nice to see trains without graffiti
I hope those days aren't gone for good, but you have to worry.
I think graffiti gives cars more character it shows where it’s been how old and just makes each car unique
Interesting perspective. Thank you.
Rust Oleum stops rust.
Thanks Walt More to help us remember history.
