Alfa and Porsche in Indycar? Glad they made the attempt, but don't really know what it was for.
Arie in the wall early on. Shierson doesn't look too angry, I guess an Indy win in the same year will do that for ya. Michael and Al Jr. in another battle before Mike blows up.
Great 'natural sound' (as we call it in TV) in this one..you can really hear what that wonderful old 2.65 turbo formula in CART sounded like. I can almost smell the methanol!
Side note: I watched the Indycars at Detroit today..Cheever and Goodyear in the booth. Pruett? Nah, he's still got a paying ride in the Daytona Prototypes. Actually drives for Ganassi over there!
Danny and Bobby Ray move up. Everybody looking for a podium needs a splash & go..but only Al Jr. and Mr. Spin & Win actually do it. Rahal runs it dry.
And RIP, Jean-Patrick. I've had a couple of close ones. Coulda been me, bro. FWIW, it scared the F out of me and my buddies. Real wake up call for us. Hate it that we had to lose you to get it.
I really appreciate you sharing these old races a lot of these were on when I was little boy around five. they used to air on cbc up in Canada at real strange hours. it was always incredible to watch on TV in the nineties because I at the time I had 2 channels. thank you.

Porsche actually had a halfway decent run in CART as far as the engine itself was concerned, the problem was the chassis. First they tried building their own, which was way off the mark, then they went with a customer March chassis (88c) just as March fell behind Lola as the better customer car. March built a Porsche-specific chassis in '89 (89P) which yielded the program's only win. The March 90P as seen here had no preseason testing (due to a late ruling by CART regarding its all-carbon tub). It was a fairly radical car - the turbo was between the engine and fuel tank for better weight distribution - which led to issues with cooling and fuel pickup/vapor lock that ruined a few good showings, and which probably could have been addressed if it were tested properly. Alfa, on the other hand, was a disaster from day one.

Actually Pruett is racing in the new Lexs GTLM ride, Ginassi dropped the DP ride after Daytona to focus on the Ford Le Mans effort.
That's interesting! Shows how much attention I've been paying to sports cars since LMP1 went away.
He retired last year after Daytona.
I have always wondered, where was Derek Daly for this race? And, JFTR, I looked online just to see if he had a IMSA GTP race that conflicted with this event, but he didn't.
Fun race....Michael had some seriously crappy luck in this race, definitely the dominant car.....broken header.
