I have a modded original GBA with an IPS screen and a GBC with a modded IPS screen and I must say they are awesome! Like, it is really, really awesome! Until you play one for yourself, you cannot understand how great they are. If you mod one yourself or buy one second hand, totally worth it. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Wheres the DS Phat at?? And you can adjust the brightness on the Micro by holding the L button then pressing the volume keys. Also I don`t think Nintendo supplied those GBA SP headphone adaptors

@@heckno15yearsagoI gave your comment a thumbs down for not knowing what a DS phat is. Even someone who has never heard the term before could figure it out by the name "DS phat".
Thank you for your infomative information. Its help me a lot, since I had the GBA classic and I intend to mod it screen, but I also wonder about the SP model which I am about to buy. Once again, your video really helps me. Thanks. Best regards bro 😎
I don’t think the headphone dongle came bundled with the SP. I bought an SP new in the store back then, and I’m pretty sure I bought the dongle separately a bit later.
Can't understand the hype around SP. I mean, you get everything plus ergonomy of GBA original version along with mic with Nintendo DS. Also i think DS Phat is better than Lite, buttons feel much better and fits in big hands better than DS Lite.
Eh, if you were outside with plenty of sun, the OG GBA and 001 is fine (I played Boktai like this back in the day). But in any other environment, the 101 model is a million times better.
It depends. First gen SP units have a front lit screen which is playable but not great. AGS101 SP units are amazing and a million times better than the first gen models but cost a lot more and are harder to find. Playing GBA on a DS is essentially the same as an AGS101 but obviously the form factor is different (bigger/heavier). You cannot play GBA multiplayer when using a DS but the DS has a headphone jack (the SP has a headphone jack but you need the adapter). So PROS and CONS for both. Either way, I strongly recommend the AGS101 screen, using SLOT2 on DS, or getting a modded IPS unit. Once you see the huge difference, you can't go back to original front-lit SP units.
It has been many years since I played an OG DS but it would definitely be better than the AGS 001 model. I believe the DS backlit screens are the same as the AGS 101. Honestly, after playing with a 101 model, I can't really go back to a 001 model as it looks so bad in comparison.
Does anyone know of non-nintendo consoles that can make use of the wireless adapter and play physical gba cartridges? With the pandemic prices on used video games and consoles still remaining so ridiculously high, I'm wondering if there are alternatives~
For what it is worth the cost of most consoles especially non current gen systems seem difficult if not expensive to find/acquire regardless so compared to new stuff it just is less hopefully less likely to get scalped etc
All are great, especially when screen is set to full brightness. I think bigger question is form factor and functionality. AGS-101 - great form factor, no headphone jack. Micro - proprietary link and charge cable, very small, not great for long play sessions, tiny screen, has headphone jack. OG DS - bulky, can't link GBA games, GBA carts sit flush. DS Lite - slim design, can't link GBA, GBA carts not flush. But AGS-101 is a million times better than 100 model.
Yes, you are correct! I misspoke in my video. I made a video how to demonstrate how to adjust the screen brightness in a Gameboy Micro here: ruclips.net/video/BzYPg_Hsq_M/видео.html
Agreed. The Ags-101 is a game changer, for sure. The screen and form factor of the Micro is cool as an idea but isn't great to actually play, especially for longer play sessions. The Micro also needs a special link cable that is impossibly rare these days if you wanted to play multiplayer.
I think the squared, flippable design of the SP fits better in a pocket as it has a smaller footprint. However, I prefer playing on the original, horizontal model as I think it is easier to hold. The SP doesn't have a headphone jack without using an adapter whereas the original model didn't have a lit screen. So each has Pros and Cons.
I wish I did. You can order one from Gamestop but they don't highlight the different models - luck of the draw unfortunately. Your best best is checking your local Craigslist and waiting for a seller near you. But man, the AGS-101 models area so much better so they are well worth it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the DS and DS Lite can only play Game Boy Advance games, NOT the original Game Boy or Game Boy Color games. If this is correct, then I’ll definitely be going for the SP 101.
Unfortunately, you are correct. DS (phat) and DS Lite can only play GBA carts, not GB or GBC. So each system has their Pros/Cons. The GBA AGS101 has a wicked screen but cannot use headphones without an adapter, for example. But the DS doesn't have a link port to play multiplayer GBA games.
@@jinpachimishima4415 As one additional option that I didn't have at the time of this video, I strongly recommend getting an original GBA with an IPS screen mod. The original horizontal form factor of the original GBA is more comfortable in my opinion, especially for longer play sessions. So that way you have the best of both worlds. If you cannot find a good deal on an AGS101, I'd say just put that money towards a modded original GBA - they are glorious!
In terms of screen size (not brightness), they are all pretty similar except for the GB Micro. That screen is very small. It is a little bigger than a postage stamp which makes it tough to play, especially for longer periods of time. I remember playing the GBA version of FF6 and having a tough time reading the text in the menus.
@@ZackGaz Thanks for trying to help. What I meant was size comes to numerical measurement information. That's more sort indicative of expectations. Thanks. I myself do enjoy FF series. Excited to play FF16 it comes out..

I would love the original gba model with the backlit screen of the later SP models.

Hello, can you connect advance sp and advance with link cable and for example trade pokemon between those consoles?
Yes, up to 4 GBA systems can be connected with a corresponding link cable.
It sometimes wonder if the original game boy advance was an influence for the Wii U controller

Does the 001 perform better then the backlit screen in areas with a lot of light like outside? I know older backlit cell phones struggle outside.
