Kudos to NEC and Hudson for being able to squeeze a fairly powerful game system down to such a small size. Also, the A/V port negates the need to do this, but couldn't you technically connect a digital converter to make this compatible with modern television signals? You used to be able to get those for free back in the late 2000s through government coupons.
Yeah I remember that back in the day when there was all those commercials about the transition to digital. Feels like ages ago. I guess I’m getting old 😅
i mean you could treat the EXT ANT as a coax input, so you could plug your original NES right into this, via AV or COAX. you could also probably use this to play with SDR, slap a big antenna on your roof, pull in some weather images, onto your computer, then decode them and rebroadcast it at J-NTSC to your little PC Engine LT

The retention tabs ARE actually charging connectors for when its plugged on the IFU, and for the 2 players, it's the same as the original PC-Engine, which got only 1 controller port. The built in AV input reminds me of my old PSone with the screen. I used the AV input on that a fair amount when I was younger to have a screen in my room and anywhere else we didn't have tv at home. What nice about something like this is you can have you PS2 or Dreamcast on the dresser and the screen in your bed.
It’s so cool that the AV input worked! I tried that with a 3DO and that xbox controller with a screen on it, and when I turned it on I smelled smoke and it hasn’t worked since 😅 luckily I hoarded it for 20 years and now I’m learning how to repair this stuff
would have loved this one back in the day as a kid. the tv feature and having a small console with built in screen so the rest could still watch tv would be a huge factor!

@@MachoNachoProductions I was thinking you could connect a digital tuner to the AV input so you can at least watch OTA TV on it as a bit of a novelty. Still pretty clunky and not very portable but it would be pretty neat! Thanks for another great video!
Cool video, it's very rare to see one of these. As for the controller port, I'd definitely have it work this way rather than it being a direct route to having a second player join. That being said, I imagine it works like a regular pc engine, no? Meaning that, if you plug in a multitap you will be able to plug in more controllers and have multiple players join the game in supported games.
There are actually still a small list of analog stations broadcasting in the USA so the tuner in this isn't completely useless. WCRN-LD is one I can pick up in Massachusetts via my roof antenna.
You can connect cable TV to the external antenna port with a simple adapter. I made the the years ago for my Casio portable TV worked great for most local channels.
That thing is really cool, I've never seen or heard of that version of the pc engine. I bet even some of the biggest pc engine fans don't even have one of those. Pretty cool you got it working again
Nice work! In my almost 41 years I don't think i've seen more than photos of these! mind you I didnt really have much of a chance in the uk., I remember seeing adverts for the PCEngine GT. They were incredibly scarce and really expensive when they were released. I've still never actually held one. One day dammit!
Those consoles are so cool. Congrats! I gotta get on that Sendico. I wonder if there is a way to convert these old tv tuners to digital tuners somehow. Great vid 👍
With the antenna in, you can likely find a way to hook up to old style vcr or game systems via tv signals - eg channels 2, 3, or 4 depending on regions I think. I always used 3 personally so dont recall clearly what other options were viable.
Same here! Been looking for a few years! Finally jumped on one that looked pretty decent. A lot of them are yellowed and this one is still pretty grey. Cheers dude!
I THINK you need a Multi-Tap to play any game with a second player as all NEC consoles only have one controller port. Clean repair and as always great video!
EXT ANT is a 3,5mm jack for a 3,5mm to F-type adapter plug, though none of the analog broadcast options would do much good over here anyway, as the channel frequencies never matched up with US/Canada channel frequencies.
That is so awesome. I really wish I had something like this back in those days. But was too expensive plus I really never heard about this. I like that you can plug in other things in there too lol.
@@MachoNachoProductions Thank you for sharing this marvelous device! And for bringing it back to life! You will need an antenna as well - it bypasses the internal antenna. I have a '87 5" portable CRT TV and that's how we did it.
the second controller port thing is just because pces were that way. if you get the awesome infrared pads from nec, the receiver will plugin there and ... you got two pads :)
You landed lucky there,i had that much cap leakage it destroyed the t500 transformer on the power circuit. i had to get a modern lcd fitted into it and the power for the screen from elsewhere on the board. You can buy power leads now so you can power this from a power bank which is handy.

That’s true! I think as a kid this would have been amazing. It’s essentially like have a regular tv (except it’s really small 😅)
It’s so cool that the AV input worked! I tried that with a 3DO and that xbox controller with a screen on it, and when I turned it on I smelled smoke and it hasn’t worked since 😅 luckily I hoarded it for 20 years and now I’m learning how to repair this stuff
I really like that intro logo of yours for macho nacho productions gave me 90s MTV vibes! Nostalgia :)
What tha? Never knew this existed, very fascinating. Tito keeps surprising us with these sorts of videos.
So glad you enjoyed this one and that I could show you something new 🙏😁
That is one of the most cyberpunk things Ive ever seen. Like retrofuturistic tech from Bladerunner or something. So cool!
would have loved this one back in the day as a kid. the tv feature and having a small console with built in screen so the rest could still watch tv would be a huge factor!
Totally agree dude! Imagine if this was battery powered and you could take it on road trips and camping!
Wow! I am new to the channel and I really liked this teardown and repair! Do you do repairs often?
I've been wanting to get into retro console repair, as a hobby and hopefully some profit. Do you recommend such an idea?
After fixing more then 5 pc engine gt and a few turbo express, I order my first pc engine LT, they add is telling me it needs work, so I’m sure it’s a gamble, but I can’t wait to do what you just did in your video!!
My pc engine lt is coming from Japan very soon
Never knew this one existed😳 Btw you can somewhat use the TV tuner with an RF modulator 😁
That could be a fun experiment to get television back onto the pc engine LT!
@@MachoNachoProductions follow up video on this 🤔
@Old Liquid Yea, old TV transmitters in low power are fairly cheap these days...
@@MachoNachoProductions I was thinking you could connect a digital tuner to the AV input so you can at least watch OTA TV on it as a bit of a novelty. Still pretty clunky and not very portable but it would be pretty neat! Thanks for another great video!
thanks for making this video - can refer back it when replacing the caps on my own faulty LT unit 😊
What an amazing nifty little console. I never heard of it until now and that thing is awesome.
Totally agree! One of my favorite obscure consoles! Cheers Sekiro!
Amazing video! More than I ever knew about this device.
Thank you Matthew! So glad you enjoyed this one and that I could should you something new!
@@MachoNachoProductions Thanks again!
This is so cooooool. I love clamshell design!
Glad I could show this pc engine revision to you and so glad you enjoyed the video! I was so thrilled I was able to get it working again!
Great vid 👍
Thank you Gabriel! That would be a great if there was a way to convert the analog receiver to digital!
This is a rare one. Thank you for sharing and congrats to you. I am super jealous.
Thank you John! I feel blessed to have it in my collection. Cheers my friend!
That’s a cool system. I live the Fifth Element also. I remember watching it in theaters
With the antenna in, you can likely find a way to hook up to old style vcr or game systems via tv signals - eg channels 2, 3, or 4 depending on regions I think. I always used 3 personally so dont recall clearly what other options were viable.
both the GT and LT are fantastic pieces of gaming history
I agree with this statement 😁
Fifth Element, I see you’re a man of fine taste. I was really happy seeing it fire up and I didn’t have any skin in the game. Great video as always.
Thank you Ken! Fifth element is probably my favorite sci-fi movie of all time. Up there is blade runner.
@@MachoNachoProductions Those are two of my favorite movies. Great choices. Have watched each countless times.
Keep up the great work. I wish you success.👍
Thank you dude 🙏! Same to you!!
Been looking for a decent one of these for a long time, nice score Tito!
Same here! Been looking for a few years! Finally jumped on one that looked pretty decent. A lot of them are yellowed and this one is still pretty grey. Cheers dude!
I learn from you every time I watch your videos...
Look at our boy Tito diversifying the channel into general console repairs
I THINK you need a Multi-Tap to play any game with a second player as all NEC consoles only have one controller port. Clean repair and as always great video!
Thanks Adam! Yep you’re correct! I don’t know why o thought The LT might be a 2 player system. I guess it though it could be like the Sega nomad 😅
EXT ANT is a 3,5mm jack for a 3,5mm to F-type adapter plug, though none of the analog broadcast options would do much good over here anyway, as the channel frequencies never matched up with US/Canada channel frequencies.
That’s a good point. I’m sure Japan used different frequencies.
That is so awesome. I really wish I had something like this back in those days. But was too expensive plus I really never heard about this. I like that you can plug in other things in there too lol.
Love the PC Engine Duo you have there!
Awesome console. Do a video on it!
I finally got my hands on a PC engine , what a great little system . I still want the gt and lt .
With the EXT ANT, you can connect a digital converter box to it to use it as a TV.
Nice! I didn’t know that! Thanks for the heads up!
@@MachoNachoProductions Thank you for sharing this marvelous device! And for bringing it back to life!
You will need an antenna as well - it bypasses the internal antenna. I have a '87 5" portable CRT TV and that's how we did it.
I’ve never seen this, but I did own the Turbo Express for a bit and loved it.
The turbo express is one of my favorite handheld designs. Truly superb!
😲- Woah, the PC Engine LT is cool!
the second controller port thing is just because pces were that way. if you get the awesome infrared pads from nec, the receiver will plugin there and ... you got two pads :)
Wow, that is actually probably the only one rare console I've never seen or heard of, damn
Nothing beats a nice episode of Family Matters on an LT.
Am a huge PC Engine fan! Can't wait for the Analogue Pocket PC Engine cart adapter and the Analogue Duo!
I love how its so portable, i can carry everything in my Jnco pants
Oh man I remember really wanting jnco jeans back in the day 😂
You landed lucky there,i had that much cap leakage it destroyed the t500 transformer on the power circuit.
i had to get a modern lcd fitted into it and the power for the screen from elsewhere on the board.
You can buy power leads now so you can power this from a power bank which is handy.
Whoa nice! I need to see if I can find one of those power leads! Yeah I got lucky, the inside was pretty clean!
The seller is on ebay uk.the advert actually has my lt in the first picture.he ships internationally
Nice! I’ll definitely take a look 👍
@@MachoNachoProductions i also have a tv tuner for the gt for sale.i will give you a great deal as i am a big fan of your content
The thumbnail did not do justice to just how CHONKY this console is. XD
That's like, what, 3 classic Gameboys worth of volume?
