They can dish it out 24 hours a day like this in marine use or agricultural water pumping. They were built to run flat out constantly. With irrigation, sometimes they are on auto-start and they go close to full goverened RPM immediately after a cold (summer) start.
I grew up in NYC and hearing this video takes me back to the late 60's, getting off the bus and always hearing them pull away at WOT. Idle or WOT are the only 2 sounds it made.

If you take the single wheel off, the Barge from Lake Lamarge will do waaAAaaay better donuts. The rear-front axle is holding the bus back from full donut (powerslide) potential.
Don't worry about that engine he has no idea how to move the rev limitor and it's on a conservative setting those engines are in gen sets that do that revving all day long for 50 years

Well, he's run two 8v71s at WOT longer than I've ever known a 1693 or a 3406 to run at WOT. If he hasn't taught himself that these old green leakers are pretty damn cool, he isn't really an auto/engine enthusiast in my book.

Just for you KT3406E, my coworker and I are scrapping two International roll off trucks. Both are Cummins N14’s. One is still a decent runner. We looked at it for about two seconds and said screw it-just send it. Scrap yard might rip it out. But she’s 1500 lbs of scrap money.

Those old Detroit Diesel 2 strokes can sure take a lickin'. Contrary to some of the comments, yes, they're just fine with having the snot revved out of them right after startup. They were standard equipment in fire apparatus for that very reason.
I got to say that bus is pretty fucking tough that Detroit Diesel withstood all that abuse it's still keeps going I would definitely buy that still even know that you burned it out like that
My pop drove those old eagles for 22yrs. For contenental and Pacific Trailways. But I know this bus from somewhere, but for the live of money can't remember where. It is a model 5 recap (to look like a model 10 ) if I remember right. But I do know I have been up close and personal with it. Might have serviced it when I was working for York tour lines, which a driving buddie of my dad owned, outta Medford Oregon. Those old Detroit Diesel 2 strokes can sure take a lickin'. Contrary to some of the comments, yes, they're just fine with having the snot revved out of them right after startup. They were standard equipment in fire apparatus for that very reason.

My pop drove those old eagles for 22yrs. For contenental and Pacific Trailways. But I know this bus from somewhere, but for the live of money can't remember where. It is a model 5 recap (to look like a model 10 ) if I remember right. But I do know I have been up close and personal with it. Might have serviced it when I was working for York tour lines, which a driving buddie of my dad owned, outta Medford Oregon. Shame to see it getting abused, but however if I had one with the land to do it, I would probably be doing the same thing.... take care and happy 🦃 day to all...
