    ya all did it the hard way, back in the 80's one job I had was starting the bus fleet after sitting for 2 days in minus 15 degree weather, this bus should have had rear start buttons and an opening to add ether right on the engine intake so rather than running back and forth you spray ether right into the intake and hit the start button and used a screw driver on the throttle, trust me after starting some 40 buses that made the difference

    Holy crap that’s gotta kick the daylights out of the batteries…glad they survived and were able to get the engine running.
    Also, isn’t there a port on the engine to spray the ether into?

      Not that I know of or was ever shown, only other time I’ve had to use ether I sprayed into the air intake

      Normal start circuit is bypassed at the moment so rear start switch is inoperative.

    It wouldn't have started if it was -20 or -25 with no block heater.

    You don't rev up a cold engine 2:45

    • @AllianceB95
      @AllianceB95 7 месяцев назад +2

      Actually a Detroit Diesel especially the 71's prefer to be revved so they have enough oil pressure to lubricate the upper part properly.
      Kick the rpm up to 1000rpm and keep that jimmy happy. And what you meant is actually the engine doing this to help the fuelpressure.

      @@AllianceB95 That applies to aircraft as well. 500-1000 RPM depending on oil viscosity until 40C.

      @@jonathanbaird8109 Best thing to do is pre-heat the block to 40c and do a warm start. (Block heater ooor anything for that matter)
