Heavy Rain Leads to River Breaching Sand Berm

  • Heavy Rains in Southern California leads to massive amounts of runoff. The Doheny Beach runoff rarely reaches the ocean but when it does it is nasty! The amount of debris and pollutants in the runoff pose a serious threat to beach goers and people entering the ocean. It is recommended that people stay out of the ocean days after a heavy rain event like this one. It is likely that the ocean will be brown for at least two more days.

Being a old man that is blind in one eye I couldn't make out what kind of tree 🌳 the crew was cleaning up; but, it looked like a Australian pine. An invasive species of tropical tree that made it's way to the south Florida peninsula. The tree has a growing cycle that is totally detrimental to anything under a full grown Aussie pine. The tree grows to quite a height; but, the older it grows, the weaker the trunk gets; until the tree 🌳 collapses onto itself including ANYTHING under it. Quite the surprise for anything or anyone caught up under it in a driving, windy ocean borne storm.
They are quite prevalent in South Florida; as they were planted as ornamental trees in the late seventies and early eighties. This is why "The Pines" a notorious party beach; south of Sebastian inlet, 3 miles north of the Fort Pierce inlet state recreational area on A1A , no longer exists.

Years ago, I had a boat in Long Beach harbor. The LA River if you don't know empties into Long Beach harbor. When the first big storm of the year hit. All the garbage that people threw into the river would form a massive island in the bay, And I mean massive. It sometimes would float around for several days. Once I woke up to a full-size couch banging into the side of my boat. The LA River is nasty. Starts in Azusa ends in Long Beach.

SoCal born and raised. Last time I went to beach my daughter was four years old first time at beach and we played in that water and it went to the ocean, no signs saying bad water nothing. She almost died, was on three anti-biotics for a month untill the loose stool it caused was becoming worse for her body. She made it and lived. I will never go to a beach in Cali. EVER again. So wrong!! I surfed there in Huntington & Mahattan & Corona Del Mar. I was never told, no signs not taught in school. I again saw no signs !! This pisses me off big time!! I'm going to make a big stink about this NO SIGNS bullshit which is all it is more Cali. Lies. Your budget is over $726,000,000.000.00 dollars a year!! the next to touch it is NY at $736,000,000.00 Millions versus Cali's Billions. So no excuse why they can't clean up what ever toxins they are dumping in our oceans. Not OK !! Thanks for letting me know what those areas are called. The Berns but NO WAS NEVER shown recommended that people stay out of them and why. NOPE so now it's time to BITCH till this is changed. NOT OK anymore. Less than a year ago SoCal is still trashing up the water. Bull Sheite on this

Wow that was not a smart idea at all.
You guys ruined a river, ruined a beach & ruined wildlife all just to have some fun.
I hope everyone involved in this destruction there will incur some hefty legal penalties to pay financially & jail time for all this damage.
As part of their penalty they should make these people make a video on what not to do to discourage others from doing such a selfish & destructive thing to nature & people & make it into commercials.
I wonder how much tax payer money it will cost to dam up the river as it was & also repair the beach?
