    @13:48 - 🎶Until the end of time
    I'll be there for you
    YOU OWN MY HEART and my mind
    I truly adore you!
    If God one day struck me blind,
    Your beauty I'd still see!
    Love's too weak to define
    Just what you mean to me!

    There are a lot of second acts in life but few were so dramatic as that of Denise "Vanity" Matthews. Denise, or Vanity as she was renamed by Prince in the early 1980s, went from actress hopeful from a town in Canada to a singer and star, if only briefly. As stars go, Vanity was a feint orb lost in the shadow of her mentor. Of reed-thin voice and shallow gifts, Vanity made the most of it.
    I recall when I first saw Vanity. Her topless image graced a poster in an Army barracks. I recall thinking, even then, that the look on her face was more of alarm than allure - a deer caught in the headlights. She looked lost somehow. Little did I know just how lost Vanity was to become. After a single album and a solitary hit, the eponymous "Nasty Girl," Denise left her namesake band and released a second and third disk that went nowhere. After some TV work and a forgettable movie called "Action Jackson," Vanity descended deeper into drugs and anonymous sex, ruining her reputation and her health.
    Part II of Vanity's life was happier. At the brink of death in 1994, Vanity found God. He became her salvation both physically and spiritually. Vanity disappeared into forgotten movies and music and Denise Mathews returned to life. In an interview in Jet magazine, Denise was quoted as saying "When I came to the Lord Jesus Christ, I threw out about 1,000 tapes of mine - every interview, every tape, every video. Everything.” Denise was born again and started a ministry dedicated to helping women leave the grip of drug use and promiscuity. The transformation was total. For nearly half of her 57 years, Denise regained much of her health and had a renewed sense of purpose.
    Denise's first act began with promise. She made compromises to her values to somehow compensate for meager talent. It worked for awhile but the cost was high. It's sad that the promise that all of us are born with can be so cheaply traded for a transitory fame. The inherent vice that resides in each of us was allowed to win. Luckily for Denise, and for all of us, there is the potential for a second act - a second chance. Denise regained her name while she restored her soul. If we could see her today I am confident that the look of alarm has been replaced with one of peace and the reed-thin voice supplanted by the joy of being in Christ's sight.

    Nice interview with music singer Vanity in Video Soul television show. I like Vanity Mechanical Emotion song on Wild Animal album that's playing when Vanity walks in BET television studio in Washington DC. I like Donnie Simpson. Vanity should've did more albums. Wow@Vanity hot body. Vanity(RIP), Grace Gealey, Caryn Ward, Florence Ballard(RIP), Zaza Ali, Karrine Steffans are hottest black women. I wanted to kiss Vanity feet, legs, lips, neck, shoulders. Vanity made me laugh talking about when she met music singer Prince at music awards. Vanity said Prince sent his woman assistant to ask Vanity if Vanity would take Prince to the bathroom? LOL. Donnie said did you take Prince to the bathroom? Vanity said oh gosh no LOL. Prince was scared to talk to Vanity. Prince thought Vanity wouldn't give him her telephone number LOL. I don't like Vanity not wanting to tell Donnie her age when she got started in modeling for magazines. I'll never understand why black women got a problem with telling black men their age. Black women don't got a problem with wanting to know black men age. Vanity was 25 years old when she did this interview in 1984. Donnie had to take off his jacket because the air conditioning wasn't working in television studio. That's why Donnie face was sweating.
