Part 1: • Morris Day on Joining ...
In this clip, Morris Day detailed making the classic film, 'Purple Rain' and explained why he characterized the initial process as chaotic. Morris Day also talked about his role as the villain in the film was loosely based on the competitive tension that existed between him and Prince.
Later on, Morris Day talked about only making $50,000 from the movie and how his smash hit "Jungle Love" was left off the soundtrack.

@@behavioristbusiness7372 I know they had their differences and were very young, but Morris has a bit of an ego & attitude problem in those days. He let is slip out when he said that Prince was having them do stupid stuff like acting & dancing lessons. This movie was a risky move for Prince, it could have sunk his whole career if the movie bombed. He wasn't a huge star yet when this movie was made. Morris didn't even show up during filming because he was partying all night, Alan Leeds was sent out to find him. How much money does it cost to have a film crew sitting around because the co-star can't bother to show up? That said, I do love Morris - the Time is a great band. However, I don't think Morris would have a career in music if it wasn't for Prince's guidance and songwriing abilities.

There’s this certain level of respect, even if they really didn’t get along with him. Think about it for a second. MD could’ve easily bashed him. But he didn’t, which speaks volumes about the level of respect he has for Prince. Great interview Vlad.

“When you spend 18 hours a day with someone you’d think there would be a little conversation, but there wasn’t that much with Prince. It wasn’t like working with a band, because I’ve worked with tonnes of bands and you get to know them, socialise a bit and go out with them for lunch every now and then. There was none of that with Prince, it was just work. There was no ‘Good morning’, there was no ‘How was your day?’, there was no ‘Good night, I’ll see you tomorrow’. He’d never want to eat, but one time I said I was going to order some food. He said, ‘You just want me to eat so I’ll get sleepy and go home!’. I said, ‘No, actually I’m just hungry!’. He’d exist on coffee and Vicks cough drops, but sometimes I’d feed him. There was one really great soul food place I could send somebody out for and once in a while he’d eat from there, but he didn’t like to eat.”

Here’s a bit of trivia: Richard Pryor’s short lived production company Indigo productions got the script for Purple Rain b4 anyone. Jim Brown who was Vice President presented it to Pryor. Pretty much the way I read it, the studio did not think the movie was going to do well, so all the things like archiving deleted scenes pretty much went into the trash once the final cut was completed. Yes, later (for film editing) studios changed that practice, because they began to realize that maybe a reissue of a movie might cause a failed movie or one that grossed below expectations, to get a second chance.

However, when you left the band and could put " James Brown Band " on your resume', doors would open. …...Bootsy Collins will testify to that. You know when Morris goes Prince had them doing some stupid Shxx. I question that. Because Prince had them doing lessons for a reason. The dancing was important, because of the discipline. Prince was helping them to open their horizons for the process..

@2conscious Morris wouldn't show up to the set on time or at all.
      ruclips.net/video/ZuxEYzHk62c/видео.html
He would have been fired on any other set, or not hired due to his zero training or experience. Stupid indeed.

@2conscious First of all Sir. I have a lot of reverence for both Morris and Prince. I don't have to know them to interject my thought. I I myself as an artist who grew up with their music in the 80's was inspired by these men to do what I do. I know what it's like to prepare for something.

@2conscious That' the reason why I didn't like the way he said that. Because everything could only be an asset to the process. He can say what he want. This is a comment section . I called him out for that. Because ,kids should know it's about the process.

@2conscious That's the first time I heard Morris described it as stupid shxx. Nobody else ever did. They were confounded, but they respected it. I didn't enjoy hearing that, because I train young people for this business as well. He should've known better, That movie was very auspicious.

Vanity and Apollonia look nothing a like. Vanity had a more exotic look and she was darker. Apples is beautiful too but not nearly as gorgeous as Vanity.

Strange🤤 ,at that time i never heard anyone complain about the soundtrack not having the time on it, we just knew it would b on the times separate album(this is the 80's), we knew of the time as a group, but we must remember prince was already extremely well known so we were eager for another album of his music....1999,little red corvette, controversy, sexy dancer,& on & on🤣

I also remember that music vedios
was in its early years ,no youtube no www.(not like 2day) , just some cable & ur local tv stations & radio played a very big part & we were already familiar with lets go crazy doves cry. & some other hits before the movie hit the screens.

So yeah Prince underwrote the financing for the movie. He took major financial risk so he deserved to reap the reward. Morris admittedly should have been paid more, but had the movie flopped financially Prince would have been out a lot of money. Since revenue turned out to be 10x expenses, obviously Prince was due a good portion of the profit.
