@@heem622 It's the exact same thing as what @Soliddz described. They are trying to stop the removal of the rhino's horns by poachers which results in the killing of rhino's. All poachers care about is having a trophy so they can say "Look at this. This is from this rhino that we hunted".
Actually hate that we’ve gotten to the point that this is what we have to do in order to save their life’s. Much rather have hornless rhinos roaming around than no rhinos at all. Keep up the good work.
This is probably the most simple explanation if your’re confused: Poachers kill rhinos for the horn. By removing the horn, the rhino is less likely to be killed because the poacher sees it has no horn. The removal of the horn is harmles.
NO THE POACHERS DONT KILL THE RHINO THEY CUT THE WHOLE ENTIRE HORN WICH GOES UNTIL THE SKIN THEN THE RHINO DIES AFTER A WHILE COYOTE REMOVED THE HORN BEFORE THE SKIN SO ITS HARMLESS
The amount of people in the comments saying "the rhino's can't defend themselves now" VASTLY underestimate them. All animals are fully capable of adaptation. Not only that, rhino's are literally tanks. They are more than capable of defending themselves without their horns. Some people need go get a grip, and do some research before hating.
Also rhinos mainly use their horns for mating purposes. Which usually can cause one of the 2 males fighting for the female wounded. In normal circumstances this is fine but since the rhino population is so low this behavior is not that helpful the conservation effort.
@@transfoogel3725 these rhinos in particular are on a reserve, so I imagine there isn't must tussle for mating. But even if they weren't, what other option would you suggest? Nobody here likes the idea of cutting off the horn, but what else can they do?
@@pitohui1800 non harmful radioactive implants work too. You implant a radioactive isotope (that isnt harmful to the rhinos) and a geiger counter can detect it. So when the rhino gets poached, the horn will not likely get pass boats and security checks as they always check for radioactive material. This will decrease the amount poaching as the poachers could risk getting a radioactive horn. Even if the horn gets pass border security, the value of a radioactive horn is not so low that its not worth it compared to a genuine non radioactive horn.
@@transfoogel3725 apologies, but that isn't a solution at the end of the day. The rhino is still killed, and worst of all, the poachers end up killing it to just throw out the keratin. This method is in an effort to prevent the rhino's being killed in the first place. Poachers will only use their resources to kill rhino's that are worth it, not to kill one for nothing.
@@transfoogel3725 he is talking about the rhino being able to protect itself against lions after the horn is removed, not the ability to protect itself against poachers with the horn still on
Coyote did such a great job explaining why this is necessary and how terribly sad it is to have to do. These creatures have been making humans marvel for almost as long as humanity has known about them, but they're on a course to go extinct in our lifetimes, simply because of greed. It's a sad future if the only rhinos left are in videos and museum exhibits.
What's even sadder is that even if he did such a good job explaining, there's a bunch of people repeating word for word what he said in the video, in order to farm meaningless engagement through RUclips comment likes. Now that's sad
This guy isn't a man, nor a myth, he's a legend. You're an absolute phenomenon, you keep up what you do and good will come from it. Cus when you put in the work, the results come back to you.
For those who are confused about how they will defend themselves against predators I’ll explain. Although rhinos don’t even have natural predators, things wouldn’t wanna target it due to its size and tough skin. Even if something were to target it, a large rhino hitting something with those nubs it would be catastrophic for the predators. They are in reservations constantly being watched. WE ARE MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE PREDATORS. Let’s keep those rhinos safe❤️ Edit: some people are wondering why I made this and it’s causing some confusion, Some other people were asking how they’d protect themselves with no horn. I understand that we are the problem but I was clearing the confusion of the predator problem❤️
I hate to burst your bubble. But, this man hurt an animal. You are not a rhino. For all you know, that rhino valued his horn more than you value your eyes.
He's doing this for a reason, it's not like he's doing it for no reason, he's doing that to protects the rhino from being killed. And that rhino was NOT hurt. It's just really sad people have to do that so they arent killed by poachers..
@@LF.Productions. You would never tolerate somebody knocking you out to take all your belongings and then claim that they are doing it so that somebody worse doesn’t come along and hurt you to take your stuff or worse. And, you shouldn’t tolerate it. Nobody has the right. Similarly, nobody has the right to take something away from a wild animal or permanently change them claiming that it’s because we are good noble humans.
When I saw the title I thought “this can’t be real” but I knew there had to be more bc coyote loves animals too much. Then I realized he’s doing it for a very good reason. So poachers do not hurt the rhinos bc of the way they remove them. He’s saving the rhinos. Coyote is a LEGEND. 🙏🏼❤️
Same. I saw the title and felt almost betrayed. Like, Coyote, how could you?! Then, I clicked on the video and heard his explanation, and immediately understood. I was so relieved that it wasn't what I thought at first glance, and while I'm also angered that this is happening, I also understand the necessity of the procedure. It's to keep the animal alive and safe. I hate people. Like, I really hate humans. People like Coyote, though... they give me hope. Take my money, Coyote. I can't physically be out there fighting with you, but I can help fund the fight.
@@chrisd9906 they only cut off a 3/4 of the horn, the horn can still be used as a blunt weapon. Also Rhino’s are large; predators don’t engage with anything that looks large and imposing. Rhinos have an extremely high chance of getting poached rather than being eaten by predators, rhinos even have a larger chance of fighting each other instead of being hunted by predators.
Terribly sad to see and definitely a hard pill to swallow, but as a long time viewer, thank you Coyote for spreading awareness about this issue. May the rhino population prosper
THIS IS SO SAD. the fact that we NEED TO CUT HORNS for them not getting killed this is insane. im out of words. but great stuff crew!! keep it up love these big guys they deserve to roam africa!
For people who are pissed: By cutting off the horn, Coyote just saved the rhino from poachers, as poachers kill the rhino for the horn, but coyote and his team didn't. Poachers won't go for this rhino anymore, as it does not have it's horn. So they saved it's life. Hope this quick explanation helped.
When you remove the horn, you effectively take away the reason why poachers kill rhinos in droves. The reality is that the only way you can save the rhino is by safely removing the horn, which is shown in the video. Is it sad? Yes. Would you rather poachers come and unsafely remove it so that the rhino dies? No. But it seems like a bunch of people in the comments prefer the latter option😮💨
They didn’t watch the video. They just saw the title of the video that was kinda clickbaity cause it makes you think he’s poaching, but in the first 10 seconds of the video he’s all like “I’M NOT POACHING GUYS.”
One problem. You are not a rhino. You have no idea how much they value their horn. If there are humans who claim, “if I go blind, I’ll kill myself.“, Which is commonly said, how in the world do you know that they don’t feel that way about their horn? You don’t. None of us do. And, until we do, we don’t have the right to cut off their horn and claim that we are being all noble and shed a tear for the sadness that us great humans feel for the good that we must do even though it hurts. This is disgusting.
@@enigmatl00 I’m sure they value their life more than their horn. Cant pass on your genetics and reproduce if they get killed by poachers. It’s an entire other argument to try and say that rhinos or other animals have near the emotional complexity to place value on their horn in such a way that we value certain things.
Poacher’s are scum of the earth how any human can do that to an animal is beyond me, respect to coyote 👊🏻 Wish you well pal sending best wishes from 🏴

The fact is these people aren't always evil simply desperate.easy for us with all our luxuries to say how evil it is.but the guystealing that horn feeds his family for years. It's horrible that people should live in such poverty
@@Hunterxii I agree, a lot of poachers are probably just desperate and uneducated about the matter, I wish things were different, but until then, we can all just try our best to fix things in little ways
@@Hunterxii but you have to think about why they're in poverty as well. Warlords and tyrants who still control trade and money limiting the food that honest workers and villages get.
My dad was in Africa in the 70’s and 80’s during his military service as a veterinarian; he used to talk a lot about his conservation of the black rhinos by cutting the horns off and many other animals working with the people of the “bush”. He was passionate about having these animals around for the next generation to see in the wild instead of in zoos. It’s a real shame the problem is still on going years later.
You do not understand. It is healthy for the rhino horn to get cut off. The horn is like our nails we have to cut them. Coyote did not want to do it, but it is for the health of rhinos.
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD People need to watch the full video! They don’t understand anything at ALL. Seriously this is saving the rhinos stopping poachers from killing them.
People underestimating rhinos just because their horns are severed really don't understand. They remain behemoths, still big and strong enough to charge opponents.
The horn's pretty important for their mating rituals and everyday life, but yes, they're not going to have any issues fighting literally anything that doesn't use military hardware.
@@corvespid4925 true, horn length can play a bigger a role in intersexual selection (females find big horns sexy) as intrasexual selection (males using their big horns for fighting).
Everyone going on with the "How dare you cut off the rhino's horn!", It's to make sure the rhino isnt killed by a poacher for it's horns. Poachers dont care about the rhinos wellbeing and will kill them to take their horns, what they're doing here is technically helping the rhino by preventing poachers from going after the rhino since it has no horn to poach.
@@DinosaurType any predator horn or no horn will target an adult rhino. It’s like an elephant without its tusk. It’s also a conservation reserve so predatory animals are probably regulated and kept low.
Yeah, people did too much lead now you can see the repercussion on the IQ and would rather watch short plot theory Tik Tok clips for two hours instead of a documentary for two hours.
The only downside to removing their horns without killing them is that they loose there main form of defence but it's a worthy sacrifice to save there lives in the long run. A fully grown rhino doesn't need it's horn against predators as most will go after something a little less dangerous. So I think this is a necessary "evil" to save a species👍
To the people complaining the rhino won’t be able to defend itself: The chance of it being poached with the horn present is HIGHLY GREATER than any animal attacking and killing it without its horn.

Coyote, the addressing of every corner of the situation starting at 10:40 is much appreciated and has insights everybody should pay attention to. Thank you 👍🏻
So you're telling me that it's perfectly possible to de-horn a Rhino WITHOUT killing them... And yet these poachers still CHOOSE to let a rhino bleed to death as opposed to leaving with a little less horn??
Actually, when you kill them you can get the whole horn, if you dont, then you can just get a little piece of them becouse the bleeding would kill them. Keeping that in mind, it would be better for them to breed and use them as livestock or something like that instead of hunting them to extinction.
It's both sad and great Elephants are starting to evolve without tusks as it makes them non-poachable (poachers only want the tusks). I wonder if it'll ever happen to Rhinos? It's really sad we have to cut off their horns to save them but we do what we have to! Thank you for removing this boys horn to keep him safe
Imagine not watching at least a single minute of the video before commenting. People are too quick to jump the gun and assume the worst, which is wild considering all the good things Coyote has done on his channel. If you have enough time to write a hateful comment, you have enough time to actually watch the video and get the facts first.
Yes, people can’t focus for a single minute these days. They would rather watch TikTok videos that last 10 seconds and full of false information for two hours straight instead of reading a book or watching a documentary for two hours. Lead poisoning was bad enough on people’s IQ but social medias are doing even worse I feel.
What a beautiful boy. I’m filled with sadness that he had to lose his horn but also filled with hope that he’ll live a long and prosperous life. Humans are so sickening to be able to murder something so beautiful.
This channel has some of the most impressive cameramen I have seen. Capturing some of the shots that they did AND maintaining a good shot even while sprinting away from an awakening black rhino. Absolutely stellar. Much love to Doctor Fowlds, Coyote Peterson, Alex's great flight skills, and the camera crew that let us all see it!
let me make it clear to everybody the rhino doesn’t feel the pain when they cut there horns like cutting your hair of nails the reason why he’s cutting the horn off is so poacher’s don’t go for that rhino because he doesn’t have a horn. So he’s actually helping out that rhino by cutting off his horn so good work coyote :)
It’s like clipping your nails or trimming cows feet, there aren’t nerves in the dense section of the nail, horn or hoof. It’s still an awful thing to have to cut off the horn of a rhino, but it’s one of the only solutions we have to protect them.
@@KINGMONKE5 That is very true. poachers rip or “dig” the horn out for lack of a better word. having your nails ripped from their nail-beds would hurt like hell, and likely cause infection if not treated properly, but clipping off the excess that hangs over is harmless. ( Humans are obviously very different than rhinos, but analogy’s ain’t my strong suit. ) Coyote and the vet team did a good job of trimming his horn.
It's okay Coyote! We know you're just doing the right thing to protect the Rhinos! I'm EagleOwlCatLion, be brave, stay wild, we'll see you on the next adventure.
There’s a very unfortunate fact we have to face, however: poachers will kill whatever adult rhinos they find, horned or not. They track them for days, and don’t want to get distracted tracking a hornless rhino. Therefore, if they find they’ve been tracking a hornless rhino for days, they’ll shoot that rhino anyways so that they never follow its tracks and waste time again. The only real way to stop poachers from killing and dehorning the rhinos is arresting, or killing, the poachers themselves.
You do not understand. It is healthy for the rhino horn to get cut off. The horn is like our nails we have to cut them. Coyote did not want to do it, but it is for the health of rhinos. Also if they kill then you should not kill them back, but go to court since rhinos are a protected species.
@@_notabee The part of it being healthy is that the Poachets kill them for horns. If you do not cut the horn from the root like the poachers it’s like clipping your tools nails. Chopping the horns keep them from not getting torn from the roots and die! Please understand and not hate brave wilderness,
That's the point. They won't track hornless rhinos and it's easy to see they don't have one! It makes them so much more likely to not be poached..if poachers see that all the rhinos in this area have no horns they won't go there anymore and the rhinos are safe!
This absolutely broke my heart. Thank you for your compassion, Coyote. I've known about this conservation method for quite some time but this is the first time I've ever seen it performed. I remember watching a nature documentary back in the 90s, about how conservationists do remove rhino horns to prevent poaching, I am glad to see Coyote bringing this issue to a modern audience. Furthermore, I am relieved to see him remind a first world audience, that it is not just greed at play here, but desperation. A lot of this goes on in comparatively less "fortunate" parts of the world. He reminds us that some of the poachers are still human too, people who were just dealt a bad hand in life and they believe cutting more than the safe amount of a rhino's horn will help them out. It most certainly is a vicious and barbaric circle.
I’m all in for this. I think people are just sick poaching these beautiful elegant animals. Keep being awesome. The world needs more people who care about animals as much as we do.

I was a lover of animals big and small as a child where most people would think of me as weird, and ofc, I still am a massive animal lover. They will always have a near and dear place to my heart for being majestic and beautiful as they are, even things like snakes, spiders, and other creepy crawlers that balance out ecosystems. I saw when Dude Perfect went to South Africa and did this for rhinos too, so I am all too familiar with the concept of dehorning them to save them. Also, these wildlife experts cut the horns not too far down to where, after a period of time, they actually grow back. So don't feel too bad about that but I feel bad for us humans naively hurting or fearing things we don't understand. It's always a big conception between the relationships of humans and animals and explains a lot of misconceptions people have on animals and where it's mainly based on. I, and a lot of other animal lovers, are tired and sick of this and all these people are trying to do is to a save a species that can possibly become extinct not too long from now. Maybe talk with people about stuff you might learn from this channel or other wildlife channels out there to spread the truth, instead of false assumptions, and to spread life and flourishment for all these animals, instead of increased chances of death and extinction.

"Frequently a tranquiliser gun is used to bring the rhino down, before its horn is hacked off, leaving the rhino to wake up and bleed to death very painfully and slowly." I think poachers do care about animals and aren't intentionally causing suffering.
I absolutely loved the Jurassic Park shot of Coyote laying on the rhino’s side listening to him breathing
This was truly amazing, Thank You guys for all that you do!!!! Save The Horns 🦏
This is brilliant, and I'm so glad it's being done. I hope it expands and that we can get accurate medical information to the communities who misunderstand what they are doing from start to finish, so all lives involved can be saved.
And for anyone mad - We're literally giving it a facial-manicure to save its life. I can promise you they would rather be hornless and *alive* than hornless, in agony, and then deformed or, more likely, dead.
So much for their main defense tools. It’s pretty sad we have to go through this to keep them from being killed into extinction.
People saying that the rhino can’t defend itself now; a rhino ramming into something at 30 mph is going to do serious damage whether the horn is pointy or flat.
Coyote is just one of those people who loves wild life and I love that keep up the good work :)
Well done for bringing awareness to this !!
YEA AGREE!
its just so sad that people have to resort to dehorning rhinos horns so they aren’t targets for poachers
I worked at my hometown zoo, While at first I never cared for rhinos compared to lions or bears. But my first animal I got assigned to was rhinos and now rhinos are my absolute favorite animals. What you're doing Coyote is so incredible.
well zoo conservation is important , lol , i always see ,release it back into the wild comments , these guys dont know anything , this is the Wild truth ....
You could just see Coyotes emotion when he holds the horn right after removal, and him speaking about it moved me to tears. Thank you Coyote and crew. ❤️
You absolutely hate to see a rhino have to go through this, but whatever it takes to save this beautiful species
I didn't understand what he did with the second Rhino( black) rhino..
Can u please explain ??
maybe we should start poaching the poachers?
Genius!
so basically hlring assassins.
I have been watching coyote sense I was 7 and I’m 11 now so I salute this man from the bottom of my heart
This guy is an extreme version of “Make the most out of your life.”
it is frustrating how terrible this world has become that we have to trim a horn just for it to not get assassinated.
Desperate times come desperate measures. We have to protect these animals at all cost, even if the methods used are unorthodox.
orthodox would be killin the poachers....
@@mcmerry2846 ur methods are effective and orthodox i like ur thinking.
@@mcmerry2846 that would fix literally nothing. he mentions it in the video, for the most part poachers are just desperate people that live in poverty, they don't really have much of a choice. kill those, and the people at top will just find some other poor people to do it. so congrats, you have killed a group of poor desperate men trying to provide for their families and have not gotten any closer to stopping the killing of rhinos
fighting violence with violence is like fighting fire with fire. it only creates more fire
I’m glad to see these guys finding a solution to protect the rhinos. I hope they find a solution to protect elephants as well
@@phantom9126some poachers are poor men, blame the dictators
im just in shock at how no matter big or dangerous or heavy of an animal you are, humans will always be at the top and part of me is kinda sad about that.
a human cannot kill a rhino with his hand, it is our technology and manufacturing that destroyed the world aswell as humans
Bacteria and Viruses are above Humans though so really they are at the top.
@Joladale Alfonso how bout u be quiet
@@zachlee805 I mean, he's right you know, it doesnt really matter if humans are on top if most of us dont choose to be harmful to animals, we already have laws against that, whats more concerning is another species above humans.
@@Vaihly ya mamma
The situation made me feel so sad, but at the same time I'm grateful that still exist people like Coyote, the Dr. and his team that make a lot to help these beautiful animals. I hope all their efforts will succeed.
Thank you.

I also love animals
Thank you Coyote for saving the lives of Rhino from unreasonable human murderers!
I was like WHY would Coyote do this?! Then I watched the video and this makes him MORE legendary then ever!!
At first, I thought you were doing something wrong but when you explained why you did it, I felt really bad for the rhino and really angry at the poachers. Let’s all try and keep all animals safe because they wont last forever. Save our precious planet. 🌍 I have now been watching your channel for 7 years and I knew you would never do anything wrong so I clicked on this video instantly.

I believe we can save rhinos from extinction. There may be bad people in the world, but there are many more good people like Coyote, the rangers at Kariega Game Reserve, and us.
