Open chords, we all love them! On this video I'll teach you ten movable open chord shapes. They are easy to learn and sound great. The cool thing about this chord shapes is that you can move them across the guitar neck much like you would do with barre chords. They are a great starting point for writing new tunes, as well. Don't forget to download your free PDF with all the chord shapes!

Thank you very much David, very valuable!
thanks david as always! but i think without distortions it would have been nicer 😊
+Rami Segev Agreed! :)
Agreed
Rami Segev agreed
First thought here was: Clean sound! :-D
I tend to agree that the initial attack was a bit distorted, however, I appreciate the complex tone in that it quickly cleans up from distorted attack to a clean sustain... My experience is that this is typical for a tube amp dialed in on the edge of breakup. Like a Mesa Boogie at full throttle, but rolling your humbucker volume down to 4... one of my favorites :)...A fantastic tone, especially given it's not a "true tube amp". Well done David, as always. God bless.
Excellent, instant musicality . . . . there were a few here that were new to me. Many thanks.
David, thank you! As usual very useful! You are the best youtube teacher!
thank you, david!! excellent!
great!! thanks for posting!! :)
Very useful video! Thanks!
What for? What can you actually do with it musically speaking?
Where can we find the finger picking pattern? I love your channel man. I’m just learning and you’re a great resource, thank you for all your help!!!
amazing job man ! as always !
+Vanny Tonon Thanks man!
Cool! Thanks. I really like your channel. Keep it up!
Thanks!
"I have a lot on this channel'. You said it, David. these are great. The difference between us is that you know what you are doing. I promise you a share of the royalties when I write a hit song. BTW, here is my favourite. I usually play it as an A9, but it also likes some exercise up and down the neck (low to high): 5 0 5 6 0 0.
I really love that Ibanez...Like REALLY...Subscribed
Thanks . I like playing the Emajor shape with only the root of the chord fretted, no barre. so high b and e left open. does that make sense.
That's a fistful of open tuning improvisation. Very creative playing and I enjoyed watching it in it's entirety! Cool tone. At first it was a bit startling but then it settled in nicely. I did prefer the delay tone on the "Moveable Chord" video better though.
I'm lost. Would be helpful to know which chords they are.
Hi, thanks for this. would it be possible to get the PDF? The link isnt working
very nice sounding. what 'chords' are these. i.e. A minor, 7th.
these chords would stump many musicians trying to work them out by ear...Thanks.
can i just say i wish there were captions on what notes or chords were being played. this is still advanced stuff as it is
Hi David. I just wanted to let you know, that the PDF download is not working for me. After signing up to the newsletter I'm caught in the reCaptcha dialog. I'm using a mobile phone (s7). Cheers
Love all of your videos holy shit.
''Hi David Wallimann here'' Instantly my panties drop and I'm ready for lovin'.
For real though mate loving the fact you don't do 20 minute intros and you're all about the actual content.
Keep them up!
Thank you for such clear and illuminating lessons David. I find myself addicted to your channel. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the link to the PDF. Help!
+Fred Fritsch Thank You! did you sign up with the link below?
David Wallimann I just don't see the link here, but thanks for emailing it! #signedsealeddeliveredImyours
@@Wallimann I love this and all your lessons! The pdf link on this one goes modal scales rather than the open chord patterns which I'd love to have!
Agree - with distoration.
I wonder what percentage of RUclips videos start with the words "in this video, we're going to do something a little different."
What's the name of that program for tabs?
For tabs I use Guitar Pro 6, but the diagrams you see on the screen are from www.neckdiagrams.com
+David Wallimann thanks a lot
What are these chord shapes? A? F? L? M?
LOL -- What a funny comment. Thanks. -- Any set of intervals can potentially be several different chords. Especially when they are movable like these shapes with string notes left open. This requires some chord analysis. The first example David uses contains C-G-C-E in the first position. What chord is that? The most obvious choice would be a C major chord. It contains the 1-3-5 intervals of the C chord. But what happens when you move it? You will leave the open G and E on the bottom and add whatever note you move to as an octave over the G and E drone underneath. Slide up two frets and now you have D over G and E. At this point you can see that you are better off in this exercise to trust your ears. However, the G and E drone notes will create a tonal center. But they are only two notes, so you get to decide where it goes from there. Tons of options. But that's the point. Enjoy.
Learn the 4th open chord here people, and you get the first 3/4 of the intro to PJ's Better Man ;)
Nice chords but the tone doesnt "fit" with that chords. Cleaner sound should be better in my opinion
Too bad these chords can't be strummed
What's stopping you? Haha
