I think green day is having their "phase" and they have been political, but then again some of their songs and the albums show how much they have changed and transitioned. So? Many British Invasion bands wrote songs about leaving animals in cars--The Kinks "My Dog's Tired of Waiting For Me in the Car," Herman's Hermits' "Mrs. Brown, You Left Your Dog in the Car," and even The Who's "Whose Dog is This?" It was basically a cliche by the time The Beatles got to it.
As a fan of green day I have to agree with you fully on the fact they've been going after success following American Idiot to the point the band doesn't have anymore passion like they did in the 90s. I think they're last greatest album was 21st Century Breakdown back in 2009 but I do prefer American Idiot and Dookie over that one
They do still have a few goldies mixed in with the American idiot follow-ups, granted. They don't really try too hard to change up at all. Revolution radio is a good example of a solid album by them. as someone who likes both bands I think that blur were definitely the better musicians. They had more interesting chord progressions and experimented way more than Oasis. Oasis's first two albums are great though.
As a Tool fan, I have to say you're totally right. There are tons of prog metal bands with way more intricate song writing. For me, Tool is more about their ability to convey certain deep emotions through interesting rythms and beautiful soundscapes. Plus, I've always resonated with their whole "spiritual" image. I don’t necessarily disagree with that statement (I love TFC and ATD especially) but it would be remiss to say that they’re comparable. Waters was a talented lyricist but his solo work lacks cohesion Pink Floyd had. Instrumentals are clearly second fiddle to the Waters’ lyrics, which isn’t strictly a bad thing but if you don’t enjoy his admittedly whiny and self-important messages, you won’t like Waters solo and are perfectly justified.

As a AC/DC fan I just can't help but say yes that their songs sounds all the same but it's makes up who they are and I don't think that they should change. Even Angus young himself said that: "I'm sick and tired of people saying that we have 10 albums that sounds the same we have 11". Proving that they are aware of what they are doing.

So? Many British Invasion bands wrote songs about leaving animals in cars--The Kinks "My Dog's Tired of Waiting For Me in the Car," Herman's Hermits' "Mrs. Brown, You Left Your Dog in the Car," and even The Who's "Whose Dog is This?" It was basically a cliche by the time The Beatles got to it.

As a fan of green day I have to agree with you fully on the fact they've been going after success following American Idiot to the point the band doesn't have anymore passion like they did in the 90s. I think they're last greatest album was 21st Century Breakdown back in 2009 but I do prefer American Idiot and Dookie over that one

They do still have a few goldies mixed in with the American idiot follow-ups, granted. They don't really try too hard to change up at all. Revolution radio is a good example of a solid album by them. Still breathing being one of the more solid songs on the album.

their first two albums are awesome though but I think their attitude resonates a lot more with brits than Americans and that was true at the time because Americans were still obsessed with grunge when "definitely maybe" came out in 94 and most of the songs on that album were a response to grunge's negativity despite noels appreciation for Kurt Cobain.
Their first 2 albums are probably some of the best the 90’s has to offer in my opinion, after that everything is pretty forgettable dad rock

As a Tool fan, I have to say you're totally right. There are tons of prog metal bands with way more intricate song writing.
For me, Tool is more about their ability to convey certain deep emotions through interesting rythms and beautiful soundscapes.
Plus, I've always resonated with their whole "spiritual" image.

I don’t necessarily disagree with that statement (I love TFC and ATD especially) but it would be remiss to say that they’re comparable. Waters was a talented lyricist but his solo work lacks cohesion Pink Floyd had. Instrumentals are clearly second fiddle to the Waters’ lyrics, which isn’t strictly a bad thing but if you don’t enjoy his admittedly whiny and self-important messages, you won’t like Waters solo and are perfectly justified.

and like the radiohead bit sounds genuine so if he thinks fucking Kid A is "just noise" then yeah its a fair shot he got filtered by SWANS lol

I agree with the Weezer one. Matt’s still mad talented and The Rentals are good, but he didn’t work on Raditude, and he won’t be working on the upcoming Raditude 2: Still Partying, which means he is inferior to the other bassists.
Also the new Weezer single drops tomorrow, the hype is real!!!
