"It's got it's eye back!" So goofy, and yet this was the moment I started crying. That headlight went around the world with him, and all of us, and got a chance to go back to where it came from one last time. I'll really miss these three. Let's hope we get some great successors in their spirit in the future soon.
I'm not ashamed to admit that when the camera panned up to show the front of the old Lancia Beta and the rear of the old Mercedes, I felt tears form in my eyes.
As Bilbo Baggins once said; there & back again. Its quite poetic that the ended The Grand Tour; going to the sane place where they started the first episode of Top Gear at.
Men will cry under 3 circumstances: birth of their child, death of a loved one and this final episode. These three were family to the world and gave so many great memories. Their antics and adventures will be missed.
I’m sad I didn’t exactly grow up with this show, but I can imagine how absolutely emotional. A lot of the audience was given how long the show ran for, for anyone who reads this who watched the show growing up to this point I admire your dedication.
Does that mean, whoever it is, brought the car back from Mozambican border (or wherever it ends up after the show) all the way to Kubu Island, which I assumed they brought it back in order to restore the missing door, that's kinda nuts now that I think about it.
There is a sentimental value to all of this. The love for this show because it was comedy and 3 men who love cars and Top Gear in general. I am so lucky I was able to watch all of them through their journeys. Yes I cried watching the end of it.
I originally watched this without subtitles and had no idea what the Makgadikgadi was. I thought they were saying something like ''The Mechanicaddie" and thought it was some obscure motoring term.
Botswana special james may's merc didn't really broke down once and this time it's staaaaag too But both jermey and richerd's cars broke down few times in the orginal borwasana special and this one too. While this time it was other way around. Jermey lancia beta brokedown countless times but montecarlo did not that much. While oliver run almost faultless apart from richerd taking it for a swim😂😂 but his ford brokedown was the problem child thia tike around 😅 Thank you to all three
this was kind of planned, James Mercedes was never right by the Lancia, it was in a grass field by itself. and the Lancia use to not have wheels for the longest time.
Windows can be replaced and roof could have been welded. If I recall correctly, Jeremy mentioned in the Botswana special, that Mercedes were pretty popular around, so getting the parts wouldn't have been an issue.
Lol sorry but they got to the other side of Botswana, completely wrecked. No doors. No windows. Now suddenly they turn up on the other side of Botswana, clean, unstolen and restored, and they act all shocked. Absolute lolz.
For anyone asking about Hammond's Opel, he actually found it years ago, brought it back to England, and has been fully restored.
Was it guilt for everything he put that poor thing through
You mean oliver. Don't think he found it, I thought he brought it back straight away?
I saw Oliver at the Haynes Motor Museum a few months ago
@@farmingandmaybemore5175 Correct it was not a found. He just brought it back It took a long time though a lot of paper work

Nobody can replace these three giants.
They filmed that special in 2007, 17 years ago... Amazing, absolutely amazing.
The best sound of 2007 came from that: “OLIVER!!!!!”😂😂😂😂
It was at this moment where i started crying. Can't believe the cars still remain mostly intact too
Desert heat with little humidity. Cars really don’t rust out. Same reason why they store planes in the desert
@@crazy4gta1 That's lucky for the Lancia, they are known for rusting, lol
Actually the lancia was found to bits long time ago..I guess they must of gotten everything back together for the special.
It's fake the Mercedes has a roof! In the original part the roof is cut open and the windows have been smashed on both cars
@@dominikmatthes1588The Mercedes has the same plate as James' Merc from the special

not the first episode, it's the first special episode

@@angelosebastian1047there was the polar special and the american road trip special too in the previous season
Man, real tears were brought out here
They have to bring them home to either fully restore them or put on display, as well as reuniting with Oliver, lol
He said they did not return the cars as they don't own them ... he did however keep the Monte Carlo
After what Hammond went through shipping Oliver to the UK Jeremy and James obviously don’t want that hell of paperwork and customs
it comes full circle and to an end. they many countless great memories throughout a lot of people childhood.
they truly are the most incredible trio.
The fact he still recognised his car
I mean, they probably tracked down the cars for this episode. They obviously didn’t randomly stumble upon them here
@@un6250 yeah ik but still.
@@un6250or got a hold of Noah?
Those cars were already found a couple years ago. James and Jeremy reacted to it. Probably restored since then
Probably the crew found them to surprise the two
OMGoodness. WHAT a way to end. The original cars that James and Jeremy drove the first time, STILL here. WHAT A LOVELY SURPRISE
Men will cry under 3 circumstances: birth of their child, death of a loved one and this final episode. These three were family to the world and gave so many great memories. Their antics and adventures will be missed.
It was a hell of a ride with these 3, glad they could bring us along
it was so cool to see these cars A GAN FOM The Botswana special bring back so many memories I HAVE THE Botswana special ON DVD

They should have shipped Oliver over from England and reunited all 3 cars
Fr
they put a beautiful ending to their very long journey... and no show ever, constructed like this.... much respect.

A very special moment for all real motoring folk. Cars are part of us. 🚘
this scene is just an absolute tear jerker 😢. What an absolute epic moment.
Must have great to keep this secret from the trio for the production staff. They look genuinely surprised.
This just brings joy
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but this is probably my new favorite moment in top gear/grand tour history.
this was the end of me being able to hold it together
Is the cow bell still attached 😂😂
That was the 1981 Lancia Beta Coupe that kept coming over Italian
For anyone wondering he kept the headlight and has always carried it with him in his suitcase
I teared up I remember watching that with my father, now he’s no longer with me.
What's the song called clarkson was listening to, monte carlo or something? 0:01

Anyone else feeling a bit misty eyed? This is like finding a long lost old friend.
unreal its like they were frozen in time :O
like seeing an old flame
Incredible
Are they going to bring it back to UK?
I'm not crying, you're crying
No! You are!
Funny that in England "Merc" is short for Mercedes-Benz, but here in the US, a "Merc" is short for Mercury.
Can't those two cars be brought over to the topgear museum?
Did they take the cars back with them?
It's a wonderful moment but quite clearly a planned event
Praise Noah lol
I hope they ship the Lancia and the Mercedes back to the UK and restore them both back to their former glories.
Please tell me they took these cars back to Hammond's shop to restore them
Why did they keep saying it was their first special. The Florida - Louisiana trip was prior to this.

who restore these cars? it was strip to the bones especially the merc
Im the same age as the Botswana special😭😭😭😭
Oliver needs his brothers, fly them to the uk
even if it was scripted, what a find
Still surprised the lancia hasnt rusted away.

I'm guessing it was the producers who planned it or something not sure if clarkson was in on it or not
This one made my eyes sweat Abit
did they restore it again? it such a waste an iconic car goes downhill like tgat
Do any of you believe that this is an actual coincidence...
No you can see the fresh tire marks. It may have been a surprise to Jeremy though🤷

Hamond should of used an opel kadett or ascona instead of that bag of shit ford like in the first ever time they went x
