  • Exploring an abandoned log cabin that was built in the 1840's and last used for a deer hunting camp many decades ago is on tap for tonight. The owner left it complete with all of the things inside and it's a time capsule from a more simple time and place. Please join me as I explore this very interesting abandoned home and see many interesting and valuable antiques still in place.

    This reminds me of the cabin my parents, grandparents and my aunt and uncle built before us kids were born...65+ years ago. We had "running" water in the kitchen, courtesy of a hand pump, and a wood-burning cookstove that also heated the water. The "bedroom" was a dormitory-style space upstairs with curtains/blankets on wires as partitions...no heat upstairs save what came from the fireplace on the main floor. We had an outhouse away from the cabin by 100 feet or so...seemed like a mile when I was a kid.
    That is a massive cabin in comparison to the one my family had. I bet it could be cleaned up and repaired and be usable again. Very cool. I could live in that...more square footage than my apartment. I don't need many amenities. lol

    Crazy how so much can change but so many things stay the same. The “cabin” me and friends hunt out of is very similarly laid out. Kitchen with VERY large cooktops, rooms with as many bunks as possible, multiple different stoves and heaters in different rooms, fun stuff displayed on the walls, even a few “NO SMOKING” signs to remind the old guys to go outside. I could almost smell the old place as you explored this gem!

      Yeah what was that?? I’m so curious now. Ok after a little research it’s a witchcraft symbol. Supposedly that one is a mark to help lose weight although I suspect they meant to draw the one for money. I came across an article about ancient witch graffiti and recognized one from another Chigg video of a building from 1812. It showed an A M on one stone and IP 1812 on the other. The A M refers to the Virgin Mary.

      @Fragrantbeard 4 года назад +1

      Janettemay64 I'm glad you're self isolating. I am near Seattle and in hindsight it was very clearly here long before it was formally politically and medically recognized as here. Docs admit as much. It's burned through so many assisted living centers and health care facilities and tons of healthy people have gotten very ill but been unable to be tested. I think this is all to say please stay safe and don't get complacent. And you live in a beautiful place - visited once, and hope to go back some day!

      @@Fragrantbeard Small world. Ya Puget Sound area had the 1st confirmed case in the USA. 1 year ago; January 19th. My sister graduated nursing school in December 2019, got hired at Providence Everett 1st of Jan 2020. What a way to start your medical career eh!?!
      ...I have family in the Midwest, small isolated town middle of no where. They were really cocky about it all and while most states did masks and distancing they held the Sturgis bike rally with no restrictions. So anti-science it makes your headspin with the Governor basically saying fuck it! And my Uncle even insinuated that it was an ''affliction of weak liberal cities''. Then predictably this summer it absolutely ravaged South Dakota. They were the worst in the world at one point. Highest death per infection ratio. Nursing homes and hospitals overwhelmed and totally unprepared even though they had months lead time over 'liberal' states. Its amazing how quickly people like that change their tunes when it affects them personally. Hypocrites. Reminds me why small towns are a nice place to visit but I wouldnt want to live in one.
