Robert James Collier told a story of before going to the premiere telling his wife he had a kissing scene but he didn't think she'd make a big deal of it because it was with a man. Once she saw it on screen she turned to him in the theater and said, "You never kissed me like that".

Charlie’s voice is so calming and whichever way he speaks or mood he’s so graceful. He’s almost too attractive as a person.
I feel bad for Thomas also. I can’t imagine. Heck I’m a middle aged gay man and the world today was unimaginable in my 20’s. Can you imagine 100 years ago?
I imagine that it must had been unbearable, for both women and men who were attracted/in love with the same gender. And very sad, frustrating.

Thomas was so mean because he was so sad and in such a terrible position. Over the series we learned about why he was like that, and got to see who he was on the inside (like his interaction with the children), though that of course doesn't excuse his behavior, just explain it. My heart swelled when he was given Carson's role at the end of the series. They knew all about him after so many years, accepted him, and gave him an even higher position than he wanted originally.

Thomas was the one who wrote to the Duke ...he thought that Mary was going to inherit DA and if the Duke marry Mary he would work for the Duke ...Thomas had the letters the Duke wrote to him and wanted to blackmail the Duke ...Thats what the Duke wanted ...the letters he wrote to Thomas ......Thomas did this to himself

It wasn't quick. They had a past that they spoke about in the bedroom. Thomas had been led to believe through letter written after that there was an understanding between them. The Duke was just using Barrow. He humiliated someone who trusted him completely.

Even though everybody is elated to see Thomas finally getting outwitted by somebody who's even more cunning and manipulative but at the end, one can't help but feel a little sorry for Thomas who tried so hard just to improve a little of his position, no different from people climbing the corporate ladder today and yet he had to suffer so much more. Great acting from both Charlie Cox and Robert James-Collier. Apparently Robert's wife got a little jealous over that kiss on screen and she's right. That is one passionate kiss, considering they are both married!! LOL

Thomas isn’t that bad. As you watch through the seasons he changes and i love him. He’s just been through a lot and him being gay makes him so defensive. But not only that, he hasn’t got a good job and stuff so that makes him desperate not to mention he just wants to be loved

Given it's Thomas, you never know whether Thomas was really in love or seducing the duke to get ahead for himself otherwise why would he try to blackmail the duke at the end? You don't do that to somebody you fell in love with.

Melody Maker true. I think with all the actors and actresses in the series, Rob is kinda underrated. He plays Thomas so well that throughout the series I felt so sad and I felt the pain thomas was going through.

The innuendo on Crowborough’s part in using this old and popular saying is deliberate and cruel, something the writers did intentionally to set up his ultimate cruelty to Barrow.
I just imagine Thomas making a good hairstyle, brushing his teeth and mentally preparing for their first meeting after a while, but :(

Exactly, like he was immediately willing to turn him in. I feel like Thomas was also just playing the game. He was like, "But you're supposed to take me and give me a good job."
I do think of him as someone trying to climb the corporate ladder. He’s a gay man who’s life is already miserable because, well... & he knew he’d end up in a better place if the Duke hired him. Except that I don’t think this may have been the first time this same scenario or something similar may have happened to him. My theory is that he may have been in love, but he was too cautious due to his insecurities to actually trust anyone, including the duke, so he always planned how to bring someone down whenever he was dealing with them, just in case the need arose. That or he was just using the duke just as the duke was using him.
He seems quite upset after hearing the "swallow" turndown. He might have thought of it spontaneously?
Maybe both were in love (at least that summer), but back in reality were too paranoid to really commit to it as selfless lovers should and thus destroyed what could have been.
