Clip from Season 1, Episode 1 - The sinking of the Titanic leaves Downton Abbey’s future in jeopardy. However, the eldest daughter, Mary is quick to put her intended marriage behind her and move on. The arrival of the new valet, John Bates, shocks the servants and O’Brien and Thomas scheme to make his stay at Downton as short-lived as possible.

I only notice it when I jump back to earlier seasons but it’s amazing how they made changes to the motorcars and costumes to keep up with fashions as the show progressed
Well, I do say that shouldn't be surprising. It should be the norm
Its so cool, I sometimes dont realize when you look at old fashions and tech they often changed a lot through a persons lifetime.
I also noticed a change in the color grading. In the early seasons, everything has a cool, dull tone to it. Even the clothes aren't as brightly colored. As the show progresses, the color becomes a lot warmer and brighter. The fashion has lots of silver, gold, orange, blue, and pink. It's very vibrant.
This is devastating because Thomas clearly truly loved him, and now he's been betrayed and heartbroken. This is what makes him so bitter for the rest of the show until Baxter, Andy, and the children pull him out of the darkness, literally and figuratively, at the very end.
Interesting kind of love if you intend to use blackmail on your loved one. Either very desperate or he's just a bit more of a schemer than he's a lover.
I always thought that this moment sent Thomas spiraling out of control for the rest of Season 1. Poor Thomas! I really felt for him.
I can't blame you for saying that because I think this and the kiss between Tom and Jimmy changed his character a lot. Tom never returned to normal.
What were the letters about
@@barbarateittinen728 Thomas and the Duke "hooked up" during the London season last year. Over time they exchanged letters and notes to each other, the information detailed in those letters proved the Duke liked to swing the fences (if you know what I mean.)
That scene was really a shocker. You can see something is up when they meet the Duke. After the Duke arrives, the Duke and Thomas have an interesting, but unusual knowledge of each other which makes it seem suspicious.
I really miss the Crawleys and the staff of Downton Abbey. There were so many fascinating people and visitors with all manner of intrigue and frailties. It was so unmatched and Thomas was a really big reason for this.
Not anymore
This is Thomas' villain origin story.
Just listening to the theme song brings me comfort. The only good thing about the pandemic is binge watching this show among others.
Poor thoams, we all know he truly loved the Duke and felt betrayed and heartbroken trying to hold back tears in the hall. I wish that this didn't make thoams bitter but I guess when things are bad it's human nature to act a bit "cranky" luckily he figured out the difference from right and wrong by the end. Much kinder and respectful. Thank Baxter and Andy to, and definitely all the littles. I guess even jimmy may have helped.
And in the end he found a men who loves and respects him, so everything turned Out well for him 💛
"One swallow doesn't make a summer". Some practical advice for anyone who catches feelings prematurely 🤣
Like Thomas 16 years later
Ahh, they cut it early at the part where O'Brien kicks out Bates's cane to make him fall. Pure evil.
I didn’t even realize this was the same guy that played Daredevil until I saw a list of his credits
I love Thomas, i just really relate to him
I also love him.
if he wasnt a fictional man living in the 1920’s and gay marriage was legal, I would be married to him rn
@@robbie_bird_ 100% same
In another universe, they end up together, happily married with children living in a cottage
Oh how I love this show! I miss it! Saw the movie and it didn’t let me down!
You saw the new movie and it was good? Don't tell any details, lol might spoil the surprise.
@@happycook6737 I saw the first movie. There is a second one coming soon!
@@jeromejackson1029 The second movie is as good as the first. It's strange though seeing the family become more modern due to the passage of time.
Poor Thomas. I hope he finally has a HEA in the new film. I wanted him to be with Richard Ellis, from the first film, but it turned out he was married! Thomas deserves so much better (from the writers of the show).
I mean… to be fair, that was the history of the time… If they’re going for historical accuracy they can’t have him skip off into the happily ever after with some hunk in the light of day. If anything it would be secrets and false marriages to keep up appearances and probably prison, death, or chemical castration for him if he ever truly gets found out. It was terrible, but to gloss over those horrible injustices is an insult.
Almost everyone has a HEA in the new film. I hope you get the chance to see it.
@@kevinbarnard355 yeah and I’m really disappointed about Thomas’s happy ending if I’ve to be honest….. too rushed and shallow.
@steemdup I wanted Thomas to be with Richard as well. Imo he didn't have chemistry with Guy Dexter in the second movie, even though I'm glad he ended up with someone. I think Richard was expected to get married because of his job he had. It would not look good for him to stay single I guess.
@@-greentoad tbh i Like guy a lot more than Richard.
I think he Had more expirience and was able to Give Thomas more safety
And in my eyes that was excatly what Thomas needed
Looking forward to the next film 🙂
Surprised Thomas never got revenge on the Duke
Losing both heirs in one tragedy, from what I know, really wealthy people does not allow heirs to travel together even today to avoid ending their lineage.
The royal family in the UK the direct heirs aren's allowed to travell with each other in one go. I think Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George can't travel together because they are the direct line of ascension, followed by princess CHarlotte and prince Louis
I think in some instances Prince William's family is also separated when travelling so the children are divided between him and duchess Catherine
Unless you wanna stay. Yeah sure if you just screwed me over now you want me to stay to be screwed I don’t think so! Homey don’t play that
So Thomas is a bottom not just in social positions then I take it? LOL
This scene and the scene where Tom and Jimmy kiss are what took Tom's character to a different place in the series.
OMG how I am supposed to keep going with my life after this? 😢
Fishing with no bait..... Christ, that was mean
I’m really glad that they established Thomas as gay immediately. I think if they waited even an episode more the fan base would be overrun with straight women/girls imagining themselves with him and writing straight fanfiction because Robert James-Collier is attractive. I’ve seen it happen with so many other shows and books, it sucks. There is still the odd person who does it but it’s not a disease like in other fandoms.
The disease in DA fanbase was making straight Jimmy into a gay boy
Thomas is naive to think he will help him
For all long time,I’d like to have asked that the duke of Crowborough is like the duke of Hamilton rather than the duke of Kent? Were he not his royal and imperial highness but his grace, why Mr.Carson should expect delightly honor? Please tell the reason to me in upper.
This a true story I wanted say that he did prison time and served for two years, I think the last name is Douglas I believe.
What name of the serie? Where can I watch?
Downton Abbey no Prime Video
It’s also streaming on Peacock.
He used Thomas
How did he get his letters back?
He got the letters back when he went up to the men’s quarters in the attic with Lady Mary and went into Thomas’ room … remember he shut the door with Mary outside as Mr Bates was coming down the hall.
What a snake 🐍.
Ugh love love love Charlie Cox, such a hottie
If Thomas has 1000 fans, I'm one of them. If Thomas has 100 fans, I'm one of them. If Thomas has 5 fans, I'm one of them. If Thomas has 1 fan, that's me. If Thomas has no fans, that's because I'm no longer in this world. Go ahead, critizice me, I was born by my mother and I will die for Thomas.
he used him like a toy
How far season 6 Thomas was from that . And how close movie 2 Thomas is to that
I don’t think so… movie 2 Thomas is ofc in my opinion. Or at least the writers didn’t develop his relationship with the man in the movie in the right way…
@@tullia9361 they didn t develop his relationship with the old actor at all . And literaly erased his relationships with everyone else
@@marionarda2790 yeah.. I agree. I’m totally disappointed about this “””happy””” ending. They ruined all the development of an amazing and complex character like Thomas with a shallow and rushed relationship.
@@marionarda2790 and yeah, I was expecting him to interact a little bit with Master George and Sybbie… or at least with Miss Baxter! He is one of the main character and they treated him like an extra deleting all his tridimensional features.
sorry for the outburst but I saw the film yesterday and I’m still really angry 😅
@@tullia9361 you are 100 percent right though
Julian Fellowes is an excellent writer.
Charlieeeeee ♥
I'm not used with him seeing
💛👍🏻
Thomas is gorgeous. I envied James (Jimmy) the footman being the object of his affections :)
One swallow doesnt make a summer 😎
It would be nice to see a series on gay royals. I have never seen or heard of them, in 2022 it’s about time we see some of that assuming they’re ok with sharing with the world.
Check out Young Royals on Netflix. Oh well, it's about only one gay royal, but still.
The TV show Kings has Sebastian Stan playing a prince that is the heir to the throne but is secretly gay. They force him to have a girlfriend and everything. It's an interesting show and character.
Good thing just lord grant them just only warned him just try not to get into any more trouble
It was for the best 😅
That is just sad to see Charlie like that oh well its just his character
Wait was that Charlie cox I did not know he was in downton Abby he used to be in that television show keeping up the appearances when I was a kid because I did not know his bad character role like no offense just felt for him
I just kind of get uncomfortable just about that first opening part that is just weird
Oh Charlie you are not like that
oh boy did he just said he will not marry lady Mary ok
Oh boy this is going to be uncomfortable for me oh well torchur oh that Thomas
Aw thomas that is just out of character
Master and slave!
WHAG DO YOU MEANNN BRUH
What is Charlie doing busted
I just suggest not to watch this after this is over
Shocking don't look
Big Charlie cox fan when I was growing up oh Charlie
That was just mean
for who just put that in the series should not of put that part in the series
Stop don't kiss gross ewe
That is why I don't get into that culture anyway I would bow down and worship before my God and my king for he is my lord and my salvation
