    • @TheWPhilosopher
      @TheWPhilosopher 5 лет назад +218

      Yeah, so impressive I can fill in the CGI in my mind cos he embodies Jones rather than phoning it in and letting CGI do the work. Chilling, his movement, the stalking, they not bound to me but the ship....will ye serve!

    • @anstjsdlr
      @anstjsdlr 4 года назад +92

      @@TheWPhilosopher Absolutely. With or without the CGI, he is Davy Jones himself in this scene. I didn't catch any problems; which is why I still don't get why this scene was cut in the final editing.

    • @TheWPhilosopher
      @TheWPhilosopher 4 года назад +27

      @@anstjsdlr well I think for two reasons. One quick win - pacing and timing of movie. Two - more fundamentally the majority of the scene is kinda fulfilled in a different way in the locker. Plus it may have caused issues with refilming THAT scene as Swann iirc ask Elizabeth? Are you dead?! Which in the above scene he was told she was alive so would seem a bit odd. Or maybe not. In any case the information on the heart is conveyed to audience and crew alike in a semi heart breaking scene as you can work out before Elizabeth, Swann is dead. You may not know why without this scene but you can infer anyway. That's my take.

    • @anstjsdlr
      @anstjsdlr 4 года назад +13

      @@TheWPhilosopher yeah that is probably it. Though I think this scene is still needed. This scene does not only explain about the heart, but also explains how governor Swan came to learn about the heart.

    • @TheWPhilosopher
      @TheWPhilosopher 4 года назад +6

      @@anstjsdlr possibly. I'm of the belief not everything has to be shown to an Audience and we can make our own imaginations do some work. Each their own. Neither right or wrong. I do like the acting above but I can live without it. In fact I prefer it this way so it proves the brilliant chops of acting on Nighy.

    • @traubele
      @traubele 6 лет назад +193

      Because the oscars are quite a mess to compete for. You actually have to follow a series of precise actions and recommandations for your movie (and I do believe you have to pay for your candidacy). The process is quite bullshit actually, and mainly blockbusters don't apply to those requirements

    • @mrlionX
      @mrlionX 6 лет назад +36

      Actually you're incorrect on the process. Any film that was in theaters are eligible for Oscars. They have to be in theaters for qualification at least 7 days straight, it must be over 40 minutes in length, must apply all credits by early December, must have been in paid admissions in Los Angeles, and cannot premiere outside of theaters. Its actually pretty standard for film festivals. The difference is that it must remain in theaters for as long as possible versus in film festivals they have to just premiere in their festivals or at least be on a festival run, which disqualifies a ton of them that are either in the internet, TV, and streaming services, no matter how good the film is. There is also no cost to get in, what makes it costly is to remain in theaters which is an extremely expensive proposition that is why the films that you see nominated that typically are not nation-wide need the help from bigger studios in order to qualify.
      So in essence, a movie like Black Panther can qualify for any nomination in the Oscars. However, it has to go through the voting process of 6000 members of the Academy which is very difficult because typically they are among the best of the industry and they are extremely experienced. They wouldn't put something like Black Panther in the Best Picture ballot.

Equally important is to see the last of the Governor, a character who was kind of anticlimactic and dull to see only once and inexplicably DEAD. It felt kind of off to see him sailing as a lost soul, no questions ask. Watching him sail with the dead immediately after this deleted scene would have been a lot more shocking and memorable.

      His leggs did not teleported this was great acting from Bil himself: Davy jones had a wooden leg, while turning he had to make a slight move to get the missing legg back in place..al this plus script and facial expressions made for me that Bill was THE best actor to potray Davy Jones. And also my fav Disney villan IF you can call him that, his story is quite sad..Davy Jones came alive true him..like Jack Sparrow did true Johnny and Barbossa true Geoffrey all great actors ♡

      @@ryanheffernan9659 judging by the movie, the governor was quite bland compared to the other three, he didn’t have that much screen time and the only highlight that I can remember that he tried to rescue Elizabeth from the cells. That being said, it took me a good while to remember Mercer’s name

  • @ProximaCentauri97
    @ProximaCentauri97 3 года назад +8

    This scene looks so important it shouldn't be deleted. As a kid, watching the movie in theater I was confused to why and how Governor Swann died. Sure in the final cut he did mention why, but it's still fairly vague (from a kid's standpoint, that is).
    Also I liked how Norrington silently huffed at Beckett at the ending. It'd seem he already despised Beckett early on which explains in the end he easily chose the pirates' side, n helped them escape the Dutchman, which also led to his death. :(
    Also Bill Nighy is nothing but talented

      Spelled 'geis'. Pronounced 'gesh'. The added '-a' sound was Nighy adding a bit of color to the dialogue (brilliantly, btw...).

    So....am I the only one pissed off that they won't be making a prequel showing a young jack Sparrow working for the EITC on the wicked winch and showing how it was burned and sunk to punish jack. then jack making the deal with Jones and finally showing it being raised from the bottom of the ocean to become the black pearl?!?!
    Then instead of "pirates of the Caribbean blah blah blah just call it. "The Black Pearl"

    I've never seen this before. This is actually a really great scene, and why did Governor Swann think that Elizabeth was dead? All I know is that this scene should have been in the movie.

    • @onedaxster
      @onedaxster 5 лет назад +15

      Context is in an extended version of the scene where Beckett brings the heart on board the Dutchman. Jones tells Swann that Elizabeth died when the Kraken pulled the Black Pearl back to the Locker, and suggests that Beckett knew that it happened, but withheld that information.
