I believe he's actually singing along to their other song "Stargazers", cause the melody of his solo in this song is the melody of the chorus in the other one :) I can't remember if you've reacted to Stargazers before, but if you haven't I really recommend it, it's awesome! I actually really like that they didn't reproduce the Tarja era version of this song with Floor. We already have that version and Floor isn't that singer. I know that others want that but to me this makes more sense just like all covers should, they have made it their own.
I dunno, some renditions of the old songs work magic with Floor doing it her way. While others don't at all, this being one of them, this NEEDS the operatic voice to make it all work, and this has nothing to do with who the vocalist is, it's style of singing which suits the song no matter who it is. Same goes with Wishmaster, as well as Stargazers, glad Floor kept that way as it should be. Btw, what I mean by making it 'work', not just the vocals but making the overall piece of music work as a unit.

For me I prefer the original but I think it has more to do with whether you appreciate operatic styled singing than the song itself. As humans we seem to attach a lot of emotional baggage to pieces of music and then quite often are unable to hear past that baggage! Even after one listen your brain seems to go well that is how it is meant to sound. I am speaking very generally here not having a go at you...when I first heard Floors version of this I went whaaat? NO but then read Tuomas' explanation of the new live versions and just treat them as covers. I agree some work better than others and this version is only ok for me. Stargazers is a total miss for me by either I never liked the song for the operatic styled vocals as it is too fast and live sounds horrible regardless of who I have heard it sung by! From Floors semi operatic style I now know some of the words but I still don't like the song it is just a mess and this my concern about the new album is whether the words become a mess as that will ruin a lot of the songs for me...

Hynynen of Kotiteollisuus published a photo of Tuomas playing the keys with the text very typical from him: "The cantor on the premises!", meaning Tuomas is going to play on the comming album of Kotiteollisuus. He has played with them before. Now Tuomas has time for that when Nightwish isn't touring. (Hynynen's wife, an actress, used to be my mother's tenant years ago.)
This is one of the first NW songs I heard that got me hooked on them. Check out the older live version with Tarja. They all look like high schoolers, but sound phenomenal. Look for "live on tv 1999".

Nobody says that Floor does it wrong or that it is not strong and heavy ... Only structurally and musically its old version sounds better, and Tarja's voice contributes something that unfortunately this version did not reach. You have to be objective guys! I love Tarja, but there are Nightwish songs that Floor sings better, however this one, or she is my sing, or the kingslayer, the siren, gethsemane, among many others that do not belong to the album Once they sound better in their original voice.

Whereas Floor is always a beautiful tone, consistent and enchanting, and that to me, is a superior singer.

Let the band evolve and grow ffs, there are no "tarja" songs, they are nightwish songs, so they are allowed to evolve and change them if they want to... 🙄 If you prefer older versions, watch them. If you prefer the new ones, do the same...
