I am in the process of restoring a 61 F100 4x4 that has been in the family since 1972, hope you can get all the steering and trans issues ironed out because these tucks are so much fun to drive . I just got my frame back from the blasters and painted and am anxious to start putting it all back together. Good luck with yours.
IMO, 4x4 trucks this old look best on steelies and narrow, military-style, tires. Something like the STA LB226.
yes thats the style i went for on my 71 f100. Everyone says i need big wheels and its awful.
I run LT 235/85 /16 on all my old 60s 4x4 s skinny and tall tire
I have a '63 F250, I run the old steel two piece rims (7.50x16 tires). They are a bit of a pain, and you have to be real careful with them but they are something you don't see anywhere anymore.
@@anoymousjoe5957 i wouldnt run the split rims they are dangerous, lots of people were killed by them, cool but not worth the danger
@@PolecatCreekGarage There are actually multiple types of two piece rims. The ones where the rims separate in the center of the rim are the true split rims/widomakers, and are illegal to use in the US. It's a common misconception. I use the lockring style, which are much safer, and still in commercial use on dump trucks, most cement mixers and large earthmoving equipment because they use the mechanical forces to hold the rim together, as opposed to the air pressure of the tire to hold it together. When the bead seats it moves on top of a step on the lock ring so it cannot come off at all, even if you tried. The rims are also inspected very carefully prior to assembly and filled in a cage. I worked in a truck shop for a while and was taught how to inspect and assemble them safely, the iffy ones are scrapped. As long as you are careful, take your time and don't take chances they won't hurt you, however I will admit if you aren't careful they can, just like any other rim/tire.
To be honest man it's nice that you're not industrialized I bet it's nice and quiet where you live. Believe me I'd move to such a place if I had the chance. Love your vids keep up the good work!
Other that the loud vehicles lol
I just realized when you showed how the backing plate was loose. On my dad’s plow truck his backing plate fell off and that would explain why he has mad camber.🤣 man we need to fix that bronco plow truck.
Wow man, Your channel grew so much. I’ve been subscribed since you’ve had around a thousand or so subs and I gotta say your content is awesome man, always has been! Keep up the great work
Same thing on my bronco but after I went rock crawling up in bald mountain above Clovis, CA. Ended up rebuild the whole front end, new spindle on one side with new hub, new bearings, all new bushings and balljoints. Double adjustable cam bushings and alignment. Always check the basics on old schoolers.
Wide tires in the sand good , wide tires on the pavement wear components . The best tires are narrow or say a 235/85 r16 good tire size all the way around , really good in mud because they dig down to solid ground , wide tires float . The reason I know that is I have had all sizes on my truck and the one's that I mentioned are the best , But very cool truck Build On .
I am so stoked that your sound a truck like mine . (62 unibody) every little things helps when dealing with these trucks .. Thanks Craig
Go find a disc brake axle out of a dent side. Best upgrade you can do.
After you did a compression test on the Galaxie, it motivated me to do a compression text on my pickup and it turns out my 400m is running on 6 healthy cylinders. 2 were at 15 and 1 was at 110. The rest were in the 140s
Learning on the fly! It's the best way. Wheel that stick out like those, as cool as they look, they play hell on wheels bearings. Good job!
i just love how little rust we get here in cali
love how this truck looks nice truck bud
Hey brother those closed knuckle 44’s are very problematic!! I get that axles are expensive, but the sooner you can swap that the fewer problems you’ll have!
yup. soon as you can get a 76/77 f250 disc brake low pinion the better.
We got 5 of thoes old Ford's with thoes closed knuckles we've aways had good luck with them but we also run skinny tires and are out in the country
Mark Prosser fair enough, I’m a rock crawler so usually 37’s or bigger. But I’ve seen guys on the trail absolutely destroy them on 35’s
Steels on narrow would look killer. Loving the videos man keep it rolling!!
Just turn the radio up and you’ll never know about the front end
Until the left wheel falls off!!
Lol what radio
You'll have better luck to grab a brake drum top and bottom to rock it for removal. That eliminates some of the shoes shifting, it will come off easier. I've actually broken the hold down clips and nails grabbing it on the sides. I've spent 40 years working on stuff like that. Love your videos btw.
Love the body style for this truck!!
These videos remind me so much of myself at that age. Eg.....Just HAD to rip the side steps off asap.......I used to buy cars and stop on the side of the road to hack the mudflaps off, because I just couldn't stand driving them a minute more with the flaps on.....
big ups from motown. i like that red if its a little browner more auburn. great color for old trucks.
If it were my truck I’d do factory steelies with caps and some old gumbos or tsls. Old skinny mud tires look great on these
Also the wider the tire and rim setup the faster you will ware out front wheel and rear axle bearings. Did that and have the t-shirt.
when the shit hits youre gonna be glad you live out there lol
Really like your f-250 ,I think the 35's fit the truck well, did you ever consider smoothies (a.k.a baby moons) for wheels I had some on a little f-1oo short box 2 wheel drive like the look wished I still had it
I’d swap a newer disc brake front axle and a dual pot master cylinder for safety myself. I’d bet you already bought wheels and tires but I think that would look great on 17x6 stock style steel wheels and Kenda’s new 35x10.50x17 tire.
Yeah I got that problem of having to go at least 30 minutes to really try to ride my mini bike because there’s no place to ride where I’m at
Glad you got it fixed can't wait to see it going off roading. Where did you get the overalls I would like to get me some?
I wish I had a way to show you my 62 Chevy. It’s on a 72 blazer chassis with 38x15.5x15s
wow thats bad. Steelies plus vintage style truck tire!
I love your show and your cars and your truck
Please put some power kings in that rig !
Dump the Galaxies- own two bad ass trucks. chicks dig em!
Whenever you need to fix your truck, just remember you could be trying to fix a Galaxie(which seems to never stop)
Recall on Harbor Freight jack stands 500,000 affected units...
Looks like the brake shoes are on wrong? short shoe should go on the front
Short shoe is on the front, don't know what you are looking at.
those stickers are sick im gonna see if i can buy all of them. i wanna put them in the dashboard of my 1994 f150 4x4 5.0 5 speed.!
Those stickers are bad ass
Here’s a link to the company I used for the disc brake conversion on my ‘66 f100 4x4 with Dana 44, depending on your front diff they should have what you need...good luck...www.horsepowersales-llc.com/products/
I much prefer the wider rims that are on the truck then skinny little steel wheels, that will look horrible to me. I do hope a future project for the truck is disc brakes up front.
You forgot to link J Wagoner's video of his Galaxie.
Thank you! Can't believe I forgot. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/7cVrmsOnNb0/видео.html
@7:11 the VIN is stamped right there on top of the frame about 8" behind the right front wheel.
What is that stamped VIN? I just don't think it's a 1961. Yes. The grille '61 but the rest? Certainly not the bed. I'm thinking 1964.
In the other video, he said the bed was replaced at some time. It is not correct.
Those Harbor freight Jack stands gonna kill you my guy they got recalled because they can unlock under a sudden shift in weight
I think you should put the classic original wheels like your f100
How much you want to bet in this video at the very end he was put the floor sound stuff in it
Maybe take the wheels to a shop somewhere & enlarge the holes slightly...
That D200...
love the galaxy i just pick up a 74 ford torino that will be getting my 302 H.O than running nitrous butt hell yeah keep up the awesome vids
Mate this video you made ruclips.net/video/Gk2et8_FIwU/видео.html when you speed shifted a 3 on the tree was one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen. U gotta do this again with better camera angles and stuff. I’d also love to see this thing race a civic or if it’s real fast something quicker.
Need a spanner socket!!
I would not be disapointed if you did a budget super duty axle swap
Power king 9x16 if they fit the fenders (35’s)
Bet that was a blast to drive at any speed, i dont have IG how can i get some of the F series stickers like those?
Bad bearings and balljointa maybe inner knuckles
I am guessing by the time you see this comment youll have tire bought buts some 9.00x16 on stock wheels would look good, they are 35-36 inches tall, oe some 255/85r16 which are 33 tall and skinny, either way its a nice old truck
Change all the bearings its apart?
I'll take those wheels.... whatcha want for them?
The fact that you dislike the same things on the truck as I do means we are spiritualy connected
Should buy some 16x10 wheel vintques or 16x12 mickey thompsons those wheels gotta go that are on there I wouldn't run 16.5 tires at all....
@billyfromtheusa there dangerous they pop off the bead along with that tires are no longer made besides tsl mud tires
If you have to do one do them both to be sure
might wanna order up some kingpin bushings and a reamer...... and while you're in there, pull those shafts and replace those old, crusty u-joints. better now than later...
Leave those 4 x 4 wheels on it they look better than the original
Cut the fenders, no lift needed
The wheels are crap for sure tires could be more like what it came with 2.50 16 or 16.5 keep away from the split rims
Just fix the dam thing it's worth it.
By the way, I like the wheels
Don't skimp out on the bearings and the repair. It will bite you in the ass if you do.
King pins are wore out.
Was I the only one was as little shocked that it has front drums im not great with trucks from these years kinda caught me off guard
It wasn't until the early 1970s that disc brakes were made standard on most cars. The added weight due to new government safety regulations made them almost mandatory as drum brakes were no longer adequate to stop cars safely. What this vehicle has was state of the art in 1961. I would put that truck back on stock size tires and wheels as larger tires put too much strain on the transmission and the rest of the drive train and that is a very old truck.
King pins are worn out.
Patagonia milestars all the say
33x12.5 boggers
I have a Dana 44 that I took out of my '71 I will sell you.
Just go to 2 1/2 ton and don't waste your time with that junk Dana 44 seal knuckle that you can't get parts.
Yes another vid thank you
I would love to see it on some Akrons 24x12s on some 35s but that’s not happening 😂 and some two inch spacers lol
Change both sides or you will be sorry.
