I fly in safe and do not mind my other two piolets bagging on me, but they have crashed many more than I have, so fly as ya will. Nice plane. Buy the way there is a plane in a tree, not buy me, When I say, not a good idea, they call me a chicken, that is all my planes are not in a tree, and has no damage to most of them.
I'm always worried about belly landings in the grass at my field. Have you experienced many control surface servo connection issues from your belly landings? Obviously, we must do them at as low a speed as possible. Great meeting you at RC Fest and thanks again for the t-shirt.
Could you received something similar to this that can be flown 1 handed with minimal chance of crashing that is not a DJI Drone (I already own one of those)?
For scale fliers, my late friend Col. Charlie Bock was one of the original test pilots for the A-12/SR-71. He said at cruise, a full 180° took 70+ miles at a very low bank angle. No rolls, no loops, no aerobatics. So if you fly this at a "fun scale" event, flying on "safe" should win you points even if a little boring.
The cones on the engine intakes of the real SR-71 helped regulate airflow into the engines. The dynamics of the speed and altitude of the real plane's flight envelope required many innovations not seen on most other jet aircraft. I was on a TDY to Kadena AFB on the island of Okinawa many years ago, and was told that you could tell when an SR-71 was going to take off, because a KC-135 tanker would take off around fifteen minutes or so before it. The SR-71 would take off, and immediately head to rendezvous with the tanker to top off the fuel before beginning the actual mission. One other piece of trivia about the Blackbird (known by those who flew it and worked on it as the Habu), was that if they kicked in all the stages of afterburner too close to the ground, it would shatter windows in buildings for miles around. Amazing bird, and I was lucky enough to see them fly on several occasions.
Those inlet cones, by the way, were movable on real SR=71s. They moved backward into the engine as the plane went faster. Their purpose was to reposition the shock wave caused by the incoming air at supersonic speeds.
In my opinion I like how you show how the plane acts in safe because alot of us guys use safe even if we can fly without. Then you show us what each aircraft will do without safe. Keep up the good work. God bless.
Did someone ask about the cones in the intakes? A little book entitled Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, by Paul F. Crickmore. See the photo and the caption on page 27: “The inlet spike regulated the amount of air entering the inlet throughout the SR-71’s vast performance envelope by progressively moving rearwards as the aircraft’s speed increased.” Pneumatic Forces involved the shock wave formed at supersonic speeds. See page 26, “Air Inlet Control System.” The second paragraph gets into some aspects of what they had to deal with, but to keep this brief I will only quote the following: “At 31,000ft, the inlet spikes unlocked and, at Mach 1.6, began moving rearward, achieving their fully aft position at Mach 3.2 - design cruise speed.”
Had a model of the black bird as a child I was afraid to touch it it just looks fragile. What a joy to see an HEAR in the air . More evidence of the evolution of R/C abilities and technology. Thanks again guys, an God bless you and yours 😇🙏
Great video as always...showing demo while in safe is very smart... Everyone flying a new model is nervous. Knowing we can get it back in one piece motivates us to purchase
That is one of the best model planes you have ever tested , I dont like war but the SR71 was in a different league , not one plane was ever shot down , you can see on the model how manouvrable it is , Lockheed built a classic aircraft. 😮 Looks really easy to fly , I had a model kit of it back in the 70s .
I flew the SR71 for 12 years over Russia and the cones in front of the turbines are to slow down the air so the rushing in air do not disassemble the turbine plates on full throttle.
Back in the mid 80's while at an AMA event, I got to see a hand built SR-71 that was 9 feet long and had gas turbine engines complete with working after burners. It also had a piggy back drone plane that was controlled by a 2nd pilot and launched while the larger plane was in flight. The drone only had skids for landing gear so, it had to land in the grass.
I didn't expect that design to be flyable at all. Thank you for proving me wrong, and thanks a lot for promoting fun, which is a commodity in short these days.
Yes I agree I flick out of safe to do a crazy move then switch right back into it, no reason to risk the plane when you can still have fun and be safe.
I have seen a lot of complaints online about this bird being to small, complaining about fixed gear ect. The thing of it is not every bird is for every pilot.
Nate fly as safe as you want, I could watch this thing go back and forth all day long... I've been staring at this thing in the hobby store. Instead I ended up with two of the scaled down WW2 rage RC planes 🤣
Love flying at Vinton county airport! I went to an rc fly- in you organized there a few years ago... It was great fun I was the guy flying the quarter scale Sr batteries eindecker. Hope you can put that on again in the future!!!
Love y’all’s videos my friend. Beautiful family. I’m 42 and just started back in April already have 7 planes and one on the way😂 I think I’m hooked Mr Saylor.😂
An ad for this plane randomly popped up on instagram. I had no idea something like this was a thing and definitely not for that price I'd think it would be much more expensive for some reason. It looks pretty realistic. Really cool, my younger self would go crazy over this thing and to be honest even now I still do 😂 this is so cool to watch man. The thing is I'd crash this thing in probably like 2.7 seconds after takeoff. 🤣
You’d be surprised how easy they are to fly. They have flight stabilization nowadays and won’t let the plane go upside down or anything until you turn that off with a switch! Maybe don’t make this plane be your first, but you could build up to something like this pretty quickly! 👍💯😎⚓️
That looks amazing. when I finally get back into RC planes, I will be flying in safe mode pretty much all the time. I like to enjoy, not spend lots of money and time repairing and replacing parts or aircraft.
My father was a mechanic on the SR-71 Blackbird back in the day. This would be my dream plane but I’m afraid to order from Horizon, because my last order took two weeks to place, it’s been almost two weeks since I ordered it and it hasn’t even shipped yet. And supposedly they have it in stock.🙄 I know they are going through some growing pains, but you have to make sure that certain things are in place when doing an overhaul like that. Like your customers can place and receive their orders.
Hey Alan! My dad worked on the SRs and U2s in Palmdale. Are you lucky enough to have your dad still around? If so, I’d like to run a name by him to see if our dads may have known each other.
@@bryanstethem4196 you're "afraid" of shipping times? It takes as long as it takes. These things come from China, Horizon hobby is just a middleman. Don't let fear stop you from enjoying super fun Chinese toys!
So excited for this one! We have two of the REAL Blackbirds on display near here. Absolutely legendary aircraft designed by an absolutely legendary designer! I wish they would do a 70 or 90mm version with lights and retracts. Between the BOne, and the new B-25 I’m going to be shy on spending cash! Hahahaha!
Awesome flying, I added three reflective orange boxes on the bottom for orientation. Waiting for the weather to break for our maiden. And yes I fly in SAFE when needed as well. 😎👍
Amazing model aircraft! On the real plane the air intake cones move forward and back. One position for regular operation and the other for ram jet/hypersonic flight. A slight difference between the model and the real thing is the intake cones angle inward slightly. Of course on the model most of the air doesn't come through the cones, it comes in through the vent holes much further back on the engine pods.
You can snap role a plane with out rudder. The way to do it is to stall the plane and crank in some aileron. This has to be a "high speed" stall. Meaning that, as soon as the nose returns to horizontal - normal flight is resumed. When flying full scale it is much easier to accomplish this because we have airspeed indicators, visual acuity and can feel the plane. Long story short, try flying at a speed slower than cruse, then pull full up elevator and quickly dump the aileron in the direction you want to role. Neutralizing your controls brings things back to manageable. If you play around with different speeds and the plane is still not able, try adding more elevator authority. Another way to snap role is to stall one wing and not the other - this is the rudder induced role. First start by getting one wing tip slightly down, hold the plane, with power on, pointing level using rudder, wait for that moment just before the stall and add full opposite rudder. Its like doing a spin but approaching it in a crab. roles
Good technique, but why try to make a plane do something it's not supposed to? Just like the real SR71, this plane is meant to be a straight line rocket, nothing more...
I would like to see a video comparing this to the f-14. Discussing the various pros, and cons for the two aircraft, to help determine which plane is better for the way I like to fly.
Sounds to me like you're a low and slow flier. If that's the case, these planes aren't for you. Just like the real f14 and sr71, these planes need to be flown fast and straight to stay in the air. They are similar planes, so the pros and cons to both are the same..
It's the only way you'll get one or see a sr 71 fly. My grandfather was on the project for building of these with Lockheed way back before I was a gleam in my daddies eye. It's weird I was watching a clip from Arma 3 and someone posted a to real fly-by clip of one breaking sound barriers. Sick that NASA got the last round with them for research, but the planes where expensive and we have hella satellites now too.
Officially this is not a UMX, though I don’t see why it isn’t. I’ll never understand why companies make the decisions they do, but whatever they call is (UMX or otherwise) they nailed this thing! 👍😎💯⚓️
Abby and Nate y'all rock! The SR-71 Blackbird is my favorite plane. Still to this day it's the fastest plane in the world. It was so fast the skin of the plane got to like 600°f from the air going over it. LA to NY in 68 minutes if my memory is right. Peace
Anything that requires 75% throttle or more to stay in the air is a handful, which is this thing. But, it's definitely true to its 1:1 scale brother...
Love it!! Just an fyi, I recently unsubscribed from and refuse to support the "2 Brothers RC" due to his recent upload of a video in which he talks poorly about and attacks Nate. Not to mention his arrogant way he speaks of himself constantly. You 2 do good to and for our hobby. I love you guys and love the honest and positive content. So much more wholesome than the previous mentioned channel which made us all look poorly with his arrogant and self centered comments/actions and over all presence. Keep up the greatness RC Saylors!!!!!
I had no idea. That’s pretty sad honestly. Well, people tend to get what they give. I hope he can find true happiness in life where he doesn’t need to feel better about himself by attempting to bring others down. Have a great upcoming weekend!! 👍💯❤️⚓️
Nooooo, I didn't know of this either. I'm not liking that. Why do people feel the need to talk about another fellow youtuber doing something thats a shared love. Everyone has their own style. Loved the video by the way. Was the best I've seen of it.
Couldn't agree with you more. When I first discovered that channel I thought it was good, but then I kept watching and found this guy to be the most egotistical and obnoxious person who will do anything to try to get attention. His put-downs of fellow Rc'rs is disgusting IMO. His buddies channel called Tailheavyproductions is no better. Incredibly arrogant people who show up and act like they are the ultimate authorities on all things RC, attacking and insulting whole groups of RC'rs and established long-time RC companies with fine reputations. They are not good for the hobby, with 2 bros RC (where you never see the other bro) urging people to purchase planes they claim are"easy to fly" and then encouraging them to go for tail-heavy CG, which of course is very likely to lead to a crash even for an experienced RC'r.
Oh man if they scaled this up and modified the design some we could have a cobra night raven. The thought of being able to put in a strato viper figure gives me goosebumps.
those cones are moveable and allow control of the shockwave in supersonic flight so it doesnt enter into the compressor section and blow the engines apart!!! in real thing they have a huge travel length. the engines are amazing and well documented on youtube - happy viewing!! like u say - orientation is a bit iffy and red fins would make a big difference - some versions of real ship had a lot of white on the fins.. another nice vid!!😄😄😄
I don't know what your pitch limit is in SAFE, but if not steep enough you can reprogram it with Forward Programming. When my hard to see planes momentarily disappear on me I switch to SAFE and climb as close to straight up as it will go. This almost always makes the plane jump into view and I can get back to business. Note you don't have to control it to do this -- just pin the stick full back. I do this regularly in our weekly combat events because it's really easy to lose track of which is yours.

That is really cool. I remember reading that when I was obsessed with the sr71 as a kid. Lol
They went back for low speeds then forward as speed increased eventually closing off the turbine shutting it down then it became a ramjet engine.🔥🔥🔥
True, and I believe more planes used this concept as also the MiG21
They also leaked like an old man till they reached altitude and Mach speeds.
I think it’s great that you always start with safe to show us beginners how it flies on safe. Keep up the good videos

Excellent touch n go. I would like to see something a lot larger come onto the market, it'd sound better too but this is an excellent first step.
Looks good quality, I am glad they are coming out with more than timbers. Great video and flight. 🫡
yes literally my favorite plane
I fly safe mode 80 percent of the time , its all bout keeping the model together longer IMO . Great video , may have to pick one up .
Sounds like the whistlers on the front of a pickup!! Very nice look and flyovers!!🛫💨🏁👍
Does it provide night light indication? I can see customers hooking this plane up really proper with hop-ups!
One of my favorite plans! What a sweet model!

Awesome. I remember putting together the blackbird model in the 80's. Looked just like that.
Everyone is pissed about the 40mm, but they sound great. Surprisingly the size of the plane matches the scale speed it it! Great looking bird.

Awesome plane! Finally something different with umx! hope they come out with a bigger version. Orientation part scares me with this one 🤣
Officially this is not a UMX, though I don’t see why it isn’t. I’ll never understand why companies make the decisions they do, but whatever they call is (UMX or otherwise) they nailed this thing! 👍😎💯⚓️
I hope they make an after burner kit for this!!!
Even those orange motors look a bit like after burners 😁 Super cool RC! 👍💯😎⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors Yeah! thats what gave me the idea!
Abby and Nate y'all rock! The SR-71 Blackbird is my favorite plane. Still to this day it's the fastest plane in the world. It was so fast the skin of the plane got to like 600°f from the air going over it. LA to NY in 68 minutes if my memory is right. Peace
The real thing was a mega handful to fly, but it seems they sortof figured it out for RC with SAFE and the control surfaces. Pretty cool stuff…
Anything that requires 75% throttle or more to stay in the air is a handful, which is this thing. But, it's definitely true to its 1:1 scale brother...
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ that’s all I can say about the Sr-71. Good flying Nate.
Great job team RCSaylors
Thank you!! 👍🙏😎⚓️
It's your video you fly like you know how keep doing what you do ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
That’s awesome of you to say!! Thanks a lot for tuning in 👍😎💯⚓️
Oh man if they scaled this up and modified the design some we could have a cobra night raven. The thought of being able to put in a strato viper figure gives me goosebumps.
That is awesome definitely a great looking plane
Would I be able to fit a g.i.joe classified series cobra figure in the cockpit?
This thing is awesome, now I have to learn how to fly these RC planes
The real SR71 actually flies, nose up. So that's perfectly normal, and cool.
That’s so awesome!! 👍💯😎⚓️
Paint it like the A-12 to help with the orientation. Silver/Titanium body & black nose, intake cones, and wing/body leading edge.
That is freaking sick
I'm impressed. Looks very good. I'm buying.
If you use our link to order yours, we Thank You!! 🙏❤️😎💯⚓️
Don’t know why you are mad it’s overcast. Gives us a reference for depth and speed of your flight.
Beautiful Jet!! Zoom Zoom!!
Love the plane wish it was a little bigger. Good job
I’d like a larger version with retracts too! Super cool though 👍💯😎⚓️
nice flight and perfect landing.. 😍
Great looking I love this plane nate although it does disappear in the air, which is the idea being a stealth plane. 😊
Amazing review thank you much love and blessings from Alabama
My favorite part is when they thank God at the end.
👍🙏✝️❤️⚓️
Thanks for warning me so I could stop it early.
those cones are moveable and allow control of the shockwave in supersonic flight so it doesnt enter into the compressor section and blow the engines apart!!! in real thing they have a huge travel length. the engines are amazing and well documented on youtube - happy viewing!! like u say - orientation is a bit iffy and red fins would make a big difference - some versions of real ship had a lot of white on the fins.. another nice vid!!😄😄😄
would you say this bird iis as fast as the umx A10, I like a bird with good power response like the umx a10?
Excellent review guys
Yes! One red vertical stab like toothless tail!
WOW! Now thats a jet!
100% Agreed!! 👍😎💯⚓️
Twin 90mm version would be very interesting!
I’d love that!! 👍💯😎⚓️
Late squad tonight happy flying all 😎😎😎😎⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
