This was basically an introduction or unveiling of their second album, Communique. It's my favorite. It is packed full of quality and heartfelt music. "Lady Writer", "News", "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Single Handed Sailor" and "Belladonna" are all upper echelon tracks. WAAAAAY underrated LP!

Rockpalast was a German music TV show back in the day wich aired in the 70's and 80's. Where bands did live performances in a studio. Later on they added performing on location.
Palast is German for palace. The quiet guy in the yellow you mentioned is Mark's younger brother David Knopfler.

The song "What's the matter with you baby? Was the only song played here that was written by David Knopfler (rhythm guitar).

Love your reactions to DS. I think you'll really love Private Investigations from DIRE STRAITS-Live" on The Night" 1992 and Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live 1983. Cheers from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸

If DS went to the U.S.? They filled stadiums with thousands of spectators all over the world. By the way the guitar player with the yellow t-shirt and white pants is David , Mark's little brother.

Single handed sailor 😮 if it was 25 hours long I could listen to it all day and a bit 🥺 INCREDIBLE, no wonder hendrix had to up his game on guitar with knopfler breathing down his neck, no comparison at all 😮

❤ lovin your reactions good luck with the new channel! To answer some of your questions - the ‘quiet one’ on rhythm guitar is Mark’s younger brother, David; the groovin bass player is John Illsley and Pick Withers is the awesome drummer. The six blade knife is a Swiss Army knife; they come from north england but lived in Deptford - southeast London broke and in dire straits 😎

Not so impressive compared to Alchemy (sound and the degree of perfection), but I love the first 2 albums the most!
