I’ve had mine almost one year - 19,600 miles so far. Absolutely love the car. It is still turning heads when I drive it. I have the limited version in Digital Teal.
My 2022 SEL AWD Lucid blue has been nearly flawless with a few little glitches in the assisted driving- it turned off on a bridge! 11,400 miles since March and really nice to drive a quiet and comfortable car. I have had only a few encounters with Electrify America- 50% success so far- they need a lot of work to make sure their stations are up and running.
👍
Might get this when they facelift it
Just have a warning for Ioniq 5 owners. As you pull into a parking space, pay attention to the front parking sensors.
When it goes off, stop. The front underside of the car has no protection. So if you scrape a tall curb, you may do damage.
It's always good to have an understanding of your vehicle's dimensions as well. I haven't owned any new cars with sensors so I have full confidence in maneuvering my current vehicle manually.
I'm looking forward to owning an Ioniq 6 in withing the next 4 years when battery tech is better and the model as a whole is upgraded. Though, I know for certain the length of that vehicle won't change much. It's definitely a long car and I'll have to get used to it lol
Major respect for saying that you'll do long term review instead of days/weeks reviews. Your content has been so helpful. That child door lock was badly planned as its accidentally unlocked when I need it locked. Thanks for all your videos and looking forward to more.
I've had mine for about a year and agree. Best car I have owned, hands down.
Just passed 1 year and 25K kms mark here in Canada with a RWD.
A couple of things we discovered/found useful:
1. using the frunk for the 110V charging cable helps when wanting to plug in overnight at at cottage and you have lots of things in the trunk.
2. the black bezel helps a lot with glare and just generally reducing the visual size of those giant white bezels.
3. driving with the rear window heater on in snowy conditions will keep the rear window more 'transparent'
4. the cloth seats we have are better quality than the regular 'imitation leather' ones
I have ioniq 5, but i'd stay away of putting things in the frunk as it gets a bit warm hehe. only complaint i have is the interior is too bright when the sun shines in.
A few quick questions if you don't mind:
- do all models including your RWD come with the huge glass roof?
- how long did you have to wait after going on the waitlist, or did you get it from a dealership? The markup seems insane at the moment in BC where I am.
- by blasting the front windshield defrost hot air, does that melt ice off so you don't need to scrape?
I have had my Ioniq 5 SE AWD eight months and LOVE IT. 22,000+ miles and no issues with build quality. Had the preconditioning update installed last month and now I'm back to summertime charging rate. I even saw 230+ kW at an upgraded EA station this weekend while it was in the mid 30°'s - AWESOME. Now a challenge - I don't think that you have put together a brake light video - I do believe this is a education opportunity for us Ioniq 5 owners as well as a design opportunity for Hyundai - if you drive exclusively in iPedal and you "feather" your braking, you can nearly come to a complete stop from 60 mph without the brake lights coming on. They eventually do at the point the foot is completely off the accelerator. So to correct that, I am learning the braking paddle game - so using the paddles to brake versus "feathering" the accelerator. Brake lights should be illuminated by 1) brake pedal engaged or 2) rate of deceleration greater than some federal standard and not the position of the accelerator.
I love your channel for the accessory reviews and even your software update where you explain how to easily enable battery preconditioning, I look forward to those long road trips as soon as I get my DC charging issue fixed!
Have had mine for about 8 months or so, 10k miles. Only issues so far have been loose trim on the back windshield (Dealer's fault, not installed fully correctly after windshield repair) and i had a weird glitch with the charging port where the button on the charge door wouldn't work and the pixel lights just faintly flashed. That issue got fixed by disconnecting the 12v for like 5 min and reconnecting. Everything else has been great!
I have ioniq 5 for almost a year now at 14000 miles, this is my 3rd car but my first EV, and this is hands down my favorite car to drive. Only complaint i have is the mostly white interior. sometimes when i go to work with little sleep, the interior is WAAAAY to bright when the sun shines in. but other than that, i love the car. it's been a year of driving and I'm still enjoying it. -- BTW charging this at home from work is also perfect since every time i go out, it's 95 to 100% charged. no more gas!! maintenance is super less, no more change oil, spent like $50 on every PMS (lubricated something) on the casa. Hands down after 3-4 years, it's going to be a cheap car if I factor in gas and maintenance (change oils).
We’ve had our Ioniq 5 SE AWD almost one year and just passed the 10,000 mile mark. The car has been nearly flawless and is very comfortable and fun to drive. The only flaw has been a faulty USB data port. No problems with the front parking sensors on the SE I5 as there aren’t any. We’ve only done one really extended 1,200 mile road trip so have only had to use DC charging maybe a dozen times. Mostly we’ve charged at home or at free public Level 2 stations when convenient. Efficiency over the entire 10k miles has been 4.2 miles/kWh. Total cost of charging has been $151. We keep most of our vehicles an average of ten years and expect to have the I5 that long.
3 months now with my 2023 AWD SEL and I love it so far! Your videos did a ton to prep me for the car and the first thing I did when the car got home was apply some of the fixes you posted about like swapping out the incandescent bulbs for LEDs. Keep the great content up!
It comes with halogens!?
@@Undisputed_King the vanity's and the trunk lights are but the rest are LEDs! He has another video with recommended things to do when you get the car and replacing those was on there, which I did immediately and it's a huge upgrade
Another in depth and extremely informative review! Awesome and extremely valuable review of the 2022 AWD IONIC 5 SEL. Thanks!
Thank you for helping all of us new IONIQ 5 owners with questions about this wonderful car! I know it’s helped me as I’m new to EVs in general and this car in specific. Thanks again!
Great video, thanks! We got a black SEL nine months ago and have put on 14k miles (4 road trips so far). Barely drive our SUV now. I really agree on a few points: IMO the black plastic on the SE and SEL looks a lot better than the gray on the limited. The car is very fun to drive and relaxing on long trips. Highway assist can be somewhat unreliable and turn off for no reason occasionally. EA is great when it works but it’s not always the most reliable. Preconditioning is fantastic but I really wish we could manually engage it. Keep up the great work!
Map updates are really important now to keep the fast DC charging locations updated as the networks expand, enabling the battery preconditioning to be maximised for excellent road tripping.

This review was so detailed, and raised some points whcih I haven't seen any other reviewer mention. And I'd be surprised if there's a review I haven't seen at this point! Amazing, thanks for much for this.
Thanks for the review Corbin. I’ve been on the wait list here in Quebec for 9 months now. Still looking forward to ordering one, or hopefully someone passes by on a trim I want and get the chance to buy it.
Thank you so much for your video!! Tons of great info delivered in a very efficient way. I appreciate your honest opinions and straightforward approach. This has been helpful in my decision to buy the car, hopefully in the next six months. I Ilook forward to watching more of your videos. Great job!!!!
Thanks for putting this together!
Great video again. Thanks for making them. I’m the same i smile when I look at mine. Very grateful
Great and detailed review! I’m at 10 months of ownership and I agree with most of your points and I love my car. I don’t have any issues with the front parking sensors ever. I’ve got the SE so maybe they are different? I keep a ton of stuff in my glovebox but haven’t noticed stuff rattling. Maybe just put more stuff in there? 😂 I can’t keep the rear window clean no mater what. Hyundai needs to work harder on the software in their cars and update it more. This is essential in high tech vehicles.
Love the one year review of your Hi5, I think all of your points were spot on. I’ve had 2 dealer installed updates (parking brake recall & preconditioning fix). I really like it for local and highway trips, the preconditioning will make long trips in colder weather more efficient by reducing the time spent charging. My avg efficiency is 3.0 kW/mi - but I do enjoy the acceleration.
I did kill my 12v battery die at a local EV demo event last year, next time I’ll put it in Utility mode to prevent the extra drain on the battery caused by doors left open & lift gate being opened & closed a bunch.
Again - thanks & great work!
GREAT review Corbin. Thanks.
Fantastic review Corbo and great input for potential and current owners alike.
Excellent review Corbin - I'm a first time UK EV owner, I've bought a 2022 Ioniq 5 Ultimate AWD in Lucid Blue and I'm very pleased with it- your videos have been very useful & informative. Great work indeed.
I’m at 12k miles and due for 1st NYS inspection, and after 2 rotations, rear tires were at 4/32 and front at 6/32. OEM tires not great in snow or rain, so replaced with Bridgestone Alenza AS Ultra - hope they work well!
2022 SEL RWD here. May 2022 to now, already approaching 22k. Still loving it, great for my long commute. No Preheated battery has definitely come back to bite me, but just charging at home kinda mitigates that. 3.7 miles per kWh across that time.
Thanks for the very detailed video man. Really informative and great to watch.
Great review of your experience with this car. Ty!
Great overview! Thank you.
Thanks for the vid man. Awesome review. Hello from Malaysia.
Best video on the Ioniq 5 I’ve seen. Thanks!
What a great review! Thanks! I'm still waiting for my factory order here in Washington state.
Excellent update!
Thank you for this 1 year review man :) Very useful indeed since you used the car for a year.
For the parking sensors with a trailer, just press and hold the button! A menu should come up to disengage the alerts!
Such a genuinely honest and comprehensive review. I smashed the SUBSCRIBE button!
Great video, always watch them! I can confirm that I have no issues with the wireless charging pad with my Samsung S22 Ultra. I also use the Motorola MA1 and the connection is stable. Only rarely in some tunnels there is too much interference so the signal drops and automatically reconnects. But didn't happen in some months now. I live in Switzerland and drive the highest trim, bought in Germany.
Glad to hear they’re both working well for you
I can say enough about how much I have appreciated watching all your videos. It's made waiting 8mo for my car to come in worth it. I even bought your maple eyewear holder and it's on my fridge...just waiting. Thank you.
Thanks Dan! Glad you can still get some use out of it in the meantime. When will you finally take delivery?
@@TheIoniqGuy Ordered in October and to be delivered April / May. Only $500 dealer markup above MSRP on my limited trim which I consider a win. Others in the area were charging much more.
Thanks, very helpful. I'm picking my Ioniq 5 tomorrow!
Really excellent video! I'm picking up my new 2023 SEL RWD the day after tomorrow.
Great review!!! Thank you!
Thank you for all the great videos
Roger on the parking sensors. Waiting in traffic, they act like they have a mind of their own. As for the highway drive assist; ugh. That thing has just quit on me in gentle turn, no ding, no flashing warning ... it just quit. Fortunately, I had my hands on the wheel and was paying attention, as you should be.
Great review and love the test drive.
Great very thorough review. Well done.
Such a nice review, very professional.
I have an ev6 and I compared the rear with an ioniq5 that was charging right next to me, the ioniq5 rear window is more angled than the ev6 and I guess that's why some Ioniq5 owners have issues with rear visibility when it gets dirty. I just put rainx in the rear window and pretty much it
Excellent and honest one year review. Thank you.
THANK YOU for the for the rewiew ! In most of the goods/bads, I agree. Some of the Bads are not so important to me. I got my AWD, full spec 1th March last year, ordered in September… I Have been drivning 19.000 km now. In Norway now Winther is in action and MY biggest problem is sensors and cameras covered by snow and ice. Most functionalies are then OFF. Small heat in these areas ? Would have made MY trips safer and better 😅
As a Tesla guy, great review. Very informative, thank you!
I love my car as well. Got mine last year in Feb and my only headaches was the PPF film .. Had to have it done 3 times because of the sharp lines caused the film to not want to lay flat.
.Love your videos.. Love watching an comparing data points as well.
Great job on your videos!!!
Great review. I just moved to Fairfield, CT with my family. I have a Model 3 and love it and EVs in general. I'll be taking a serious look at the Ionic 6.
Outstanding pesentation, thank you so much!
Amazing video. Quality content!
Great video; addressing all the points and being fair and balanced. Totally agree about the random front parking sensors beeping like crazy while stopped in traffic. I also turn off the lane-keep assist, sometimes the car swerves quite radically for no reason, which can be a bit disconcerting. I bought all-year tyres (Michelin Cross-Climate 2) which I had the dealership put on for me, so I never used the foam-lined tyres that come with the car, I have them in my garage and will probably give them a try in the summer. Had my AWD since the beginning of March 22 and immediately installed a battery monitor and bought a portable charger, after seeing a couple of scary videos by Mr EV - but so far not had my 12v battery die on me (hope I haven't jinxed it by saying that). As for other issues, I've had none whatsoever - my brother-in-law bought an EV6 and his heating system has never worked properly and he is still waiting on parts. Not great when it has been as cold as it has this winter here in Iceland. Sitting in my car (with the light interior, like yours) is much more pleasurable than the EV6; I felt cramped both in the front and the back. We call our car TARDIS, for obvious reasons. ("It's bigger on the inside"...) I think probably the worst thing about the I5 has been the waiting times for new cars and also the lack of spare parts - I get a bit miffed that they will be pushing out the I6 and even the I7 while prospective owners of the I5 are on a two-year waiting list! However, all things considered (even lack of rear wiper) I am super pleased with the I5 - it's a pleasure every time I get into the car. Have really enjoyed and been educated by your videos - keep up the good work!
How do you like the Cross Climate 2 tires? Those have been on my short list for a year or so but the fact that they’re not EV specific always worried me in terms of tire noise. Did they greatly increase noise levels?
@@TheIoniqGuy To be honest, the increased noise did not occur to me when I decided to buy them, as I had not realised that the car came with foam-lined tyres. I and my brother-in-law spent quite a lot of time online checking out all kinds of all-year tyres as studded tyres for the winter here is still allowed, but actively discouraged here in the Capital region at least. We both liked the reviews of the CrossClimate2 and apparently they seem to handle well with an electric vehicle; I was worried about that aspect as well, in case the walls were not strong enough, but so far they seem just fine. So far they have held up really well here, even in a good deal of snow. Yes, road noise has to be more than the ones that came with the car, but I have no way of comparing them until I switch over to the others. Also, Icelandic roads, even here in Reykjavík are not good and are noticeably more uneven than elsewhere, so road noise is probably more here than in the 'civilised' world ;-)
One more reason for me to finally get to Iceland and test out those roads. That’s a trip I’d really like to do within a few years.
Mate from Australia here on your channel, I could not believe when I realised you r channel fairly new on RUclips, I was just listening in and man your clarity of communication, in depth analysis, real world accurate figures, the work you have put in to make this video is probably better than most of the well known car RUclips channels I have seen across states. Big thumbs mate ... Keep it going.
Thank you!
@@TheIoniqGuy one more mention, usually all channel show or talk about sponsers. Never seen anyone doing an anti sponsers. Wow that was really cool, thanks for transparency
I tell it like it is. I'm not beholden to anyone so I'm always going to give my honest opinion.
Hey, Nice video. I love that you did a proper review with the good and the bad.
I am pretty sure my next car will be an electric, whenever that time may be.
I had a similar issue to what you described in my Honda Civic - does it happen to you when it's raining?
For my Honda, they ended up replacing the front bumper under warranty to fix the issue. Apparently, they added a better hydrophobic coating on it to resolve the issue.
Great review, love the "I've lived with this car" vibe.
Thanks a lot for your Review im thinking about purchasing this car but its huge in my opinion, and range makes me to hesitate. But honestly, is precious and with your colour, is gorgeous, the most beatiful car ive seen in a very long time. It has its own print.
Thank you for the long time experience on ioniq 5.
Great and thorough review. Thank you! We just bought the 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited and love it. It's a joy to drive. The driver assist modes make highway driving more relaxing and less tedious. My question is what is the best 12V jump starter to buy to have on hand in case the 12V dies? Most of these are designed for jump starting ICE vehicles. Is there one that is best suited for an EV, like the Ioniq 5?
That car still looks amazing. Thanks for the video
Very nice Review. Greetings from Germany. Unfortunately, mine won't arrive until August (in Shooting Star Grey). Im so hyped
Great review 👍
fore tires, I lover my DWS LRR. Continental's low rolling resistance of the DWS has given me great mileage and traction in my Leaf.
Got the 2023 AWD Version in more or less the spec you guys call the "limited", your videos really sold me on the Digital Teal Green color!
Good point about the rear child lock my wife seems to click on the button by accident and the kids complain they can’t get out they should have it set so to engage you have to hold it down for a few seconds.
Haha pretty bad when even the kids are complaining
Great review!
mine been in the shop for a week.still love it..got it march 2022..12volt failed on me and a bad high voltage battery cell.so waiting on parts
A year's ownership! You've had yours a whole year! Lucky you!! My still hasn't arrived and it was ordered October 21!!! I'm being told in will be here in March!? If I don't 😆 I'd 😭. 👍
I live in southwest Ct and My Niro EV 2020 is perfect for my area and needs . Great video .
Great video thanks!. So how would you react to the EV6 after 1 year?. Still not sure if this will perform different or better?
My 2019 Kia Niro plugin has the same front parking sensor thing when stoped or in traffic. Its really random when it does go off.
Thanks for the video. Great amount of detail and unlike the hype videos created by Doug Demuro and the likes.
Another great video. TY
Bought my Hi5 SEL AWD April '22 with 2,700 miles on it. Almost to 23K miles, now (
I LOVE the emblems. Beautiful choice. If I get one I'll rip that off completely! :D
Corbin, I enjoyed all of your videos and have found them very helpful. One topic you've missed if you ever get your hands on another Limited is the voice rec. It is very quirky and there is not a lot of documentation on how to use it (it is buried in the infotainment manual that comes with the car). Another thing I find annoying with car is that Hyundai in their docs and videos say that if you press and hold the unlock button on the remote, it will unlock the car and open the front windows (which works great), however, it also says that if you press and hold the lock button, it will lock the car and close the windows. It only locks the car and the windows are unaffected. Finally, none of the voice rec commands work for the windows.
Strange, it closes the windows on mine. Maybe you have to stand in close range for it to work?
I think they won’t close in USA, for reasons
Regarding 12 volt battery drain. Turn off the door mirror convenience setting. It fixes the issue. Had Ioniq and Kona. Never had a flat battery since changing the setting.
The parking sensors only activate on 2023 SEL when you go into reverse. You can manually activate them when parking forward. Must be a 22 issue... Also, what door edge guards did you buy?
Thanks!
edit - a suggestion to keep the jump battery in the glove box. Too cold outside it will affect that small battery. You're more likely to keep it topped off if it's inside the car and not have it dead when you actually need it. Used it on a friend's ICE mazda the other day and it barely had enough juice after 3 months.
Hi . It is the first video that i watch from your channel. You did a good one. I'm thinking to change my F-150 for an Ionq 5. You give me a lot of answers. I live in Quebec and the gas price here equals 5,80 for a US gallon and electricity is 6,3 cents for first daily kw and 9,7 cents daily over 40 kw. It will a big advantage for me. So thank you for your excellent review.
Love your channel and have been saving several of your videos for future reference! I’m awaiting a reserved HI5 Limited in gravity gold but have been wavering recently given the $13k Tesla price drop, $3k Hyundai dealer markup, and lack of tax rebate. I vastly prefer the IONIQ 5 exterior
styling, interior design, and driving features, so I’m trying to stay strong!
Thanks! At the end of the day it's still just a car and it has to make financial sense for you but I know it's easy to sometimes let your heart dominate your brain on decisions like this.
I'm new to your channel and I've subscribed. It's really nice seeing someone from Connecticut where I live. I had just watched a Vehicle-to-Load video that the owner had used power from his Ioniq-5 to power things in his home, to get an idea of how long his Ioniq's power would last during an extended grid power failure. And your video here had come up as a suggestion. I don't have much interest in EVs primarily due to human rights violations and Biden's unnatural push, but I like staying in the loop. You did a good job here and held my interest. It probably wouldn't matter to you, but I'd like to offer that the town I live in, Wallingford, owns the power company and as a result we have the lowest electric rates in the state, and I've been told nationwide but I can't confirm that. I look forward to what you bring in the future.
I didn't even know some cars had headlights that turned the direction the wheels were facing. What an interesting feature.
It won't bother me whether or not I have it on my planned Ioniq 6 ownership because I've never driven a car with it haha. Neither will the missing rear wiper.
I currently own a 2008 Honda Civic so anything is better lol
Yeah my old 2018 Santa Fe has those directional headlights and they do become really useful and a favorite. There's probably a trim level that has it or will in the future
In regards to the wireless Android system, it was a software update from Android auto and on the forum page, many were having issues regardless of the brand/type of phone. Google Play Store wasn't getting the new updates for a few months. But once the updates became available, it fixed the issue.
Great review! I’ll add one more annoying issue from the interior: I’ve had to “train” all of my rear passengers on the proper “etiquette” for exiting the car- ensuring the rear seatbelt is flush with the plastic molding to prevent rattling.
I need to start doing that. I always just do it myself after they get out. Such a stupid problem to deal with
@@TheIoniqGuy Its a common problem on many cars. We have a Camry Hybrid with the same issue.
Getting a chance to "binge" all your videos. Great information and presentation. Question: What is the OBD scanner and app you use that is seen in some of your videos? Do you recommend it? Perhaps a video on it and how it is helpful to you.
Keep up the interesting content.
I use this: amzn.to/3HdtDIF as well as an app called carscanner. Works very well. I’ll definitely do a video soon as I’ve had so many people asking about it.
The way my jaw dropped when you showed how to prop up the false floor in the cargo area! 😂Thanks!!
😂
Corbin,
I appreciate all the support and information your channel provides and the time you put in to support us. I have used your advice and links to add the 2 Inch, Tork-Lift Hitch and the OEM wiring harness. I use the hitch with my Thule Bike Rack and a hitch mounted platform to carry extra equipment when we travel with passengers. I have hooked up lights on the platform and the car assumes we have a trailer and adjusts the mileage down though we don’t lose that much range.
I have the 2022 Limited with AWD and the panoramic roof. I would like to get roof rack cross bars but don’t want to get the rubber suction type that would put weight and pressure on the glass. I have seen a Limited with what looked like the Thule Aero Bars but I’m not sure. My local dealership does not carry any cross bars and has no recommendation or advice.
I was wondering if your Hyundai rep knows anything about a recommended set of Roof Rack Cross Bars that will safely mount to the sides and work with the panoramic roof. BTW I have 11,800 miles so far and didn't get our Ioniq until July 1st. Love it!
Thanks KR
good review and you covered what i wanted to know about the sound system i took the ioniq 5 for a test drive and the audio sound was disappointing. i am a vwid4 owner i play mp3 from a usb and it shows the whole album cover while playing its disappointing that the ioniq 5 or kia ev6 does not do this. just wondering is there a way to enlarge the circle that shows part of the album cover
Yeah, false alarms from the front parking sensor scares the hell out of me sometimes. I wish they could recalibrate it but my dealer said they can't. Anyways, this is a great thorough review! Thank you.
Same problem. It would be nice to be able to permanently disable them.
They can be re-calibrated. Ours were going off quite frequently; the local dealer said that they would re-calibrate them, but it had to be done on a fine, sunny day. I still get the occasional false alarm, but they have greatly reduced in frequency.
@@lautoka63 oh really? I will ask my dealer again. Thank you for the info.
@@sydneyangielli4717 I'm a Kiwi, but can't see it being any different for the UK.
keen to know what % tint you did to the front windows to match up with the privacy glass in the rear?
Which 12v jump starter did you get? I know they vary in terms of amps.
Good review. I'm just starting to search for an EV after going through a couple of Lexus hybrids. Funny, any one of the things that pisses you off would be a no-go for me on this car. Weird, how you absolutely love it.
Thanks for that. Nice to see a review from a taller guy. I'm 6'4" and I worry about comfort. I am about to buy an EV and I'm torn between Ionic, Tesla and Polestar.
Thanks for the content! Can/have you addressed the expensive low-conductivity coolant change that seems to be required every 3 years for Ioniq 5 (but not for other EV's)? It may not be a showstopper but makes any claim that maintenance is cheaper than ICE cars disingenuous.
Thanks, really appreciate the time and effort you put into this vid. I'm anxiously awaiting a move to EV after a pending home move and the Ioniq 5 is tops of my list.
Glad it was helpful!
My EV6 wind with the tech package has been fabulous. Sold my Lexus RX to buy it. Looks like you have some nifty features on your car. Mine has other features yours doesn’t have.. I did look at the VW and now I’m glad I didn’t get it. Our cars charge very quickly in comparison to the Volkswagen. I haven’t been on a road trip or used any of the free fast charging yet. May move to Asheville soon so that will be my road trip. Thanks for the informative videos.
Glad you’re enjoying your EV6. Asheville is an awesome little city.
