It sounds like the person released the video because they knew a coverup was happening and they wanted the truth to come out and were trying to help.
Exactly my thinking. It'd take an attorney to convince these people to cry at a press conference to condemn someone that helped them.

The video was going to be shown to parents on Sunday in a meeting, but someone leaked it before. That's why parents feel like this.

The person who leaked the video is not the one to blame. As heart breaking as this is, the blame belongs to whoever believed that they could sweep this footage under the rug, hiding it from the families and the world. The proper line of action should have been immediately letting the parents see all relevant footage, followed by the release of all footage from security cameras and body cams alike to the world. The government of Uvalde made an active decision to hide their wrongdoing and cower in the same way that the cops in the footage did. Meanwhile a brave leaker let this footage fall in the world’s hands so as to be judged by the court of public opinion. While I respect the wish for the proper course to have been taken, it’s important to look at this situation as it stands

Police officers are selected from a small pool of individuals who apply. you don't get the best qualified individuals who can protect and serve to protect and serve. Ordinary men are your local police officers, scared just as you are when a gun in fired in their direction. its takes a special kind of individual to take decisive action quickly in a situation like that and those men are not few are far between. we cant expect them to put their families aside, look through their fear and protect those they dont know. its tough, sad and heartbreaking to see that we are looking for justice through these officers who did put themselves in harms way to the extent they were willing to go. That's the thing. Whoever leaked it, well, leaked it. They weren't supposed to release it which means the cops were still either editing the video to make them look good, or they were never going to release it to anyone. Since it was a leak, they didn't have much of a choice but to release it to the world.

I disagree. Although the parents should have seen it first, the cops were never going to let anyone see the videos, and if anything, they were going to edit them to make it look better for the cops. This was a leak, meaning it was not supposed to be seen (at least not yet), and since it was a leak, it's not like it would be possible to send it to the parents specifically.

What really gets me about the video, the first cops went towards the classroom, as soon as the heard shots, they bailed and ran back down the hallway, stood back for 77 minutes! Then, as soon as the suspect was killed all the officers don’t waste a second to try to bum rush the classroom. WHY? Now it was safe enough for you to be a hero?
They were poorly led and disciplined. Probably all too common. The school should have locked down on being alerted to the threat.

This video, a smidgen of the TRUTH, one thing they might have, they are preparing themselves to watch in the next few days (I can't even imagine), is leaked and no one told you! All those calls, reporters, online opinions, SM posts, it starts ALL OVER, without their knowledge or ability to prepare! All of that just so this news source could release it a few days early?!?

Even if they did show it, then what? Only the parents know about it, just force them to sign NDAs and threaten them with legal consequences to keep them silent about the video after they viewed it, heck the video could have been edited to only show them what they wanted them to see.
I understand how upset this videos release must make these parents, but I don't think they ever would have seen it at all if it hadn't been leaked. The failure of the police in Uvalde was so epic that the cover-up being attempted is also on a massive scale. Those children deserve justice, and the parents and the world deserve to see the details of that failure. The video should have been released by the police, and the parents should have been shown beforehand and given the chance to react to it before the world saw- that's absolutely the way it should have been done. But the police did not do that, just like they did NOT save those innocent and helpless children on the day that they were mercilessly attacked. So as upset as the parents are about the way this video was released, I hope that they will realize that the leaker is doing what they're doing in an attempt to get real justice for those beautiful children.

You can own a gun, if you can show good cause to own one (and self defence is not one), if you have a secure place to keep them (a gun cabinet bolted to the foundations of the house, for example) and if you pass very stringent personal checks, e.g. no history of violent behaviour, no links to crime, etc. and you are limited in what you can own - shot gun and rifle for hunting/stock control on a farm, pistol for sport shooting on a range (in which case, your gun is kept at your club, not in your home.)

The question that concerns me is, would the DA have released it at all? We know they tried to cover up what happened at Uvalde. was this the only way the parents would have gotten to see that footage? At all? The fact that this was leaked rather than released speaks volumes to me. It says the DA wasn't going to release anything that made the cops look bad.

I cant tell you how sorry i am for all of you parents. My heart aches for you and i hope that you get the JUSTICE and closure you all deserve.
The only problem i see with waiting for the parents seeing it first. What if they edited out more stuff? What if it didn’t show the dude sanitizing their hands or running away when there is gunfire. There was really no good way to release this. With that being said. I do understand why the parents are mad they didn’t see it first.
I get what you're saying, but it's about respect for the parents in that when you release info to the world, it becomes a spectacle or sensationalized (even though the children's deaths weren't seen in the footage released). It wasn't necessary for the person who leaked the video to leak it as soon as they did based on the fact that the parents were scheduled to see it because the leaker has the video, and if anything was edited out before the parents could see the truth, then the leaker could have released the unedited footage that they had sometime later, it still would have been exposed. Not bashing the leaker, but I'm just sayin.

I feel for the parents, but I agree with the video being released. God knows the chances of it being "accidentally" erased were high. And, as horrific as it is, they should release it unedited. The armored, gunned, and trained officers doing nothing while children were being butchered and screaming for help should be seen and heard exactly how it happened.
My heart goes out to the families who lost their babies in Uvalde and I pray for justice for the precious lives that were lost and to their families who's lives were changed forever. I stand with Uvalde victims children and parents and family members.
it happened in a public school therefore the information belongs to the public and should have been shown right away. no hurt kids were shown and sad as it may be these parents don't get special treatment when it comes to public records and such. the video also put the actions of the police force on a national stage and will ultimately get them the justice they deserve , you can't cover up what the nation has now seen.

Somebody who knew those parents nor the public would see that footage for at LEAST 10 yrs leaked it!!! The courts were going to fight tooth/nail to withhold that video from the parents like they were already doing. & during the trail it would've been redacted. I was so sad/hurt for these families having watched the footage yesterday so I can't possibly fathom how they're feeling.

What they needed was illegal -- or at least extralegal. They needed someone with an ouce of courage responding and the police clearly weren't that person. I understand where they’re coming from, however the world needed to see that too. Like they said, DA nor police would allow them to see it ; so you would think they would be glad the rest of the world could see the incompetence and negligence of the police.
Am on the same boat as u, because ya they deserve to see it first, but my only concern was after they show it to the family’s, would they had shown it to the public? So far the departments of police have been incompetent.
I don't think the problem is with the footage being seen. The problem is that they should've been the first to know about it from local authorities, and not have to find out on t.v. It's their children and they're not being treated with the dignity and respect they should receive. I think that's what they're having an issue with. I can't imagine having to go through that.
I'm partially in agreement with you both but I think you're missing the bigger point. These people are tired of getting information secondhand. They're tired of finding out about shit at the same time that we do. I think that's where the anger is coming from. First they're told that they can't see it and then suddenly, the tape is leaked. That's shitty. It's disrespectful, it's unprofessional, and it's unacceptable.
They shouldn't have to see it on TV first, with their other children and the grandparents watching. The police departments should have enough empathy to show the parents first, alone, in a controlled environment.
