  • Italian Air Force Panavia Tornado IDS, serial CSX 7041, from 311 Squadron (Gruppo), the Italian Air Force Test Wing (RSV - Reparto Sperimentale Volo), doing a wonderful display, during the RAF Cosford Airshow 2017. The aircraft, as seen here, was given a special and very eye catching colour scheme during October 2016, in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of 311 Gruppo.
    The colour scheme was designed and applied by Drudi Performance, the company which designs helmets and leathers for Valentino Rossi and many other racers. The aircraft is based with the RSV at Pratica di Mare near Rome.

    Very nice and very capable. Love the livery on the Tornado. That guy was pulling some Gs on that aircraft. Why is it, I always hear a helicopter at airshows? We never had helicopters at ours.

    • @HighFlight
      @HighFlight  4 года назад

      Airshows in the UK often have helicopters as there are 3 military display 'acts' - Chinook, Apache and Wildcat - and a growing number of restored ex military classics, such as Whirlwind, Sea King, Wessex, Gazelle, Sioux, Scout, Wasp...they work where the crowd line is short but not so well at large shows. That said, I'd rather see this or any other Tornado any day!

    A beautiful jet fighter, showing the grace of variable-sweep wing flight. They achieve sustained flight at very low speeds at minimal arrowing, while reach high performance with their wings retained to the fullest, saving fuel and increasing their range substantially. An incredible ability of a past concept very well used and unfortunately put aside mainly in the name of stealth in aircraft, something much more costly due to the cutting-edge material used.

      @@HighFlight The most of this type of aircraft currently operates in Eastern Europe, with Tu-22, Tu-160 and Su-22, Mig-23 and MiG-27 fighters. In the West, only the Tornado and the B-1 Lancer in USA remain active. The most famous of them, the F-14 Tomcat had almost all units dismantled, something the US Navy today regrets very much.

      Thankyou (not that I did the flying!). It was by far the best display of the whole show. It totally outperformed our own RAF Typhoon, which had a technical fault preventing a full display, as well as our RAF Aerobatic Team 'The Red Arrows' who were 'shackled' by 'health & safety' restrictions causing them to change their display line which in turn put the entire crowd in the wrong place. But at least the crowd were in the right place for this piece of magic!

    L italia non costruira piu un caccia bonbardiere come il Tornado una bellissima macchina con i suoi 40 anni di servizio ancora oggi in volo

    • @HighFlight
      @HighFlight  4 года назад +3

      Sfortunatamente questo è un progresso, dato che il Tornado è ora in gran parte obsoleto e ora superato dalla migliore tecnologia. Puoi continuare ad aggiungere una migliore tecnologia ai vecchi velivoli, ma arriva il momento in cui è più economico costruire un nuovo design poiché ogni cellula ha una durata di volo limitata. Inoltre, i design delle ali ad altalena a geometria variabile sono stati meno favorevoli.

      It certainly was amazing. It is highly likely to be at RIAT, as the Italians have already confirmed that they will fly a Tornado A-200 in the display, but not yet confirmed from which squadron or aircraft. Seeing as 311 Gruppo are the Italian Air Force 'display' squadron, then its reasonable to assume that they will fly one of their aircraft.

      That's right, for what I read mind you (so if I am talking to a pilot I humbly underline that it's just a sporadic enthusiast giving his 2cents), and the choice by the RAF for the F2/3 was motivated for the need not so much of a dogfighter which, as you hinted the Tornado could not be, but as a "crusing" interceptor, aiming at approaching soviet threats high on the North Seas. Which was not the optimum for the AMI/IAF neverthe less for the West German Luftwaffe. By the way, without looking it up, was the F2/3 in service with the RAG Germany during the cold war?

      Gregory, just to share some basic military aviation culture, Italians were the first ones to employ airplanes in combat. It happened during the Italo-Turkish war, back in 1911. Furthermore, the first and greatest theorist of the modern war in the air was Giulio Dohuet, an Italian Army officer that inspired the likes of Hugh Trenchard. Finally, the Italian Air Force is the only one to show a 10-airplanes acrobatic team - something that no none in the world achieved up to now.
