I was lucky enough to be employed on the Avro Anson mk 19 whilst stationed at RAF Topcliffe in the late 1960's. We were one of the last operators of the type in RAF service. Got to say that they were a supremely reliable aircraft and were much loved by aircrew and groundcrew alike. They were used on Northern Comms. sqdn at Topcliffe for VIP transport, a role in which they excelled. Lovely old bird, much missed.
I am amazed I missed this before as I watch all of your videos, thank you Ben and Pete. I admire the way that Old Warden pilots conduct themselves and as we see here, their ability to be so humble and encourage young and old enthusiasts. Thank you..Oh and great credit to Planes TV for their generous footage.
Another fascinating video Ben. We were at Old Warden a few weeks back for the De Havilland charity fly-in and I was in awe of the Anson. You've had some great gigs recently, keep up the great work!
Plane Old Ben We went along on the Saturday which was equally gusty! Got a ride in a beautiful Hornet Moth that took the bumps with ease. Would have been great to see you taking the Anson out. Thanks for sharing all of your fantastic experiences!
Thanks very much,,I flew as temporary wireless op in an Anson in 1955. We were giving air experience flights to new recruits. The Marconi 1154/1155 transmitter and receiver were still in use.We flew from RAF Halton.
Just found your channel and it is awesome 👍. This Anson is a beautiful plane and deserves more videos about it. Thanks for sharing this with us. New subscriber as well 👍👍
I know the Anson is a rather mundane utility aircraft but even as a young teenager back in the early 60's there was just something about that aircraft that really appealed to me and still does.
What a great treat that must have been, flying what is my favourite aeroplane. Great video, loved the brass mags, and the old crackly radio. I think there is another flying Anson TR21 G-VROE at Sleap which according to Pilot Mag was purchased by Glenn James and was previously part of CAF at Coventry. Would love a flight in one. As usual your video was great and if I had know it was flying over Cosford I'd have tried to go and see it. Really enjoyed the video. Paul
Does it still fly? My great great cousin was on one of these, avro anson eg447, ditched over Rhyl due to engine failure, would love to follow in his footsteps (not literally) and would love to know more
Ben, did you shut the flight deck door mid-flight as I spotted you took off with it open and then did the whole display and landing with it closed? Thanks, Sam
does that mean it's a wide radius turn so that you're never quite turning toward the crowd?.....I loved the the old mag switches, every plane should have them!!!
