    • @kingcosworth2643
      @kingcosworth2643 Месяц назад

      I think CGI will be like all new technologies, when they are first mastered they are used to death, everywhere, think of synthesizers in 80's music and stereo recording in the 70's. Eventually they are toned back however and it is learnt how to use it properly, subtly is normal the goal, then simply used as another potential tool in the toolbox, I'm hoping we are getting there with CGI, Marvel movies are still well over drenched, but I have seen a number of modern movies where they are back to trying to get as much as possible in camera, which is awesome.

    Everything, Everywhere, All At Once should be reacted to definitely. For having a low budget compared to many other movies, it was able to achieve so much with their combination of computer and practical effects. Also, LEGEND - A DRAGON BALL TALE is an amazing fan animation that can show what can be created by dedicated fans for animators react.

    Another small detail I love about Mikey in Men In Black: when he roars into the camera, the background plate adjusts focus as if that CGI model is a real thing and the camera guy has to keep it's face in focus.

    • @LunarEclipsism1
      @LunarEclipsism1 2 года назад +41

      Reminds me of my favorite tiny detail in Jurassic Park, when the T-rex first breaks out of the paddock and steps out in a full CGI shot that shows the entire dinosaur for the first time. As the T-Rex steps up and out where the fence is broken, it rears up a little "too far" and the camera has to subtly tilt up to follow it and keep it in frame, as if an actual animal did something unexpected and the cameraman had to adjust in response. Of course the reality is that things had to be planned in the opposite sequence of events, but it goes such a long way in subconsciously convincing your brain that the character is "real" regardless of how rendering and shaders and "detail" has improved in the years since it was released.

      Comparing the original Gojira, The Return of Gojira (1984) and Shin Gojira would be an excellent episode. They're three distinct films from three distinct periods. Gojira is the grandfather of such effects, 1984 was a turning point for their ability to articulate and Shin Gojira was the first film to be truly modern (not counting the American Godzilla films, but those were big-budget CGI fests so not as interesting to delve into how they did it).

    -Fight Club. This film has some impressive CGI shots. I especially love the intro!
    - Spiderman 1 (2002)
    -Spiderman 3 (2007) - the sandman and venom effects. It'd be interesting to compare it to Venom from 2018 and 2021.
    - Silent Hill (2006) - the otherworld transitions, the monsters designs are impressive, and the part where Dark Alessa "Integrates" herself into Rose is also very cool.
    -Stranger Things - they have such great vfx shots! especially in season 4. Also, in Season 4, they have a very impressive one shot shooting scene. It'd be cool to see you analyze it.

    Loved seeing John on! I've noticed a trend with a lot of these experts in their craft. First, they understand how their job fits into the whole. They don't focus purely on the technical details, but they understand that the purpose of VFK is to help tell the story. E.g. John loved that Will Smith would improv and they accounted for that in how they shot his scenes, rather than him being annoyed that he has to adjust the plan. Second, these experts recognize there is no cookie-cutter way to do anything. You'll often hear "it depends", it's a bit of a meme but experts understand exactly what should guide the use of one technique vs another and you can only get that with experience.

    Something else I noticed with the transition to puppets at 4:45 is that they're both tired and she's hanging off of him. That makes the change to stop-motion jutteriness look more like fatigue than animation limitations.

    But these videos really let me appreciate what goes into making a good scene and even a bad scene that has a ton of work in it.
    I love these segments!
    Informative, creative and at its core, problem solving on the hoof.
    There is so much more happening behind the scenes than the camera ever tells you when finished for the final cut.
    Keep up the amazing work and the amazing guests.
