hi friends. Turks have always been independent throughout history. Turks never lost their independence . This war was a war of liberation from enemy occupation. and as you said, the person who saved the country from enemy occupation was the great Ataturk. good luck friends.
I can't believe you. You have been in Turkey for several months and have not yet eaten Iskender Kebap, Cag Kebap, Adana Kebap and Beyti kebap. It is a must-have.
Hello my dears.....you just made my day! Last night before bed I said to my husband...I wonder what time Marianna and Chris will be posting a new video? 🤣🤣😂😂. Thank you for sharing! I just love the...Oh your still there 😂👍🙏😘🐾🐾🇬🇧
Another great video. A couple of things: Iskender Kebab gets its name from the man who invented it, and who invented donee kebab: Iskender Efendi in Bursa. If you go to Bursa there is a statue of him at the place he cooked this. Also: Lahmacun originates from south east turkey in Gaziantep and Urfa- it is spread with minced beef or lamb mixed in tomatoes and spices and you’re supposed to top it with the salad squeeze of lemon and roll it and eat it. My mouth is watering - it looked delicious. And lastly Ataturk - thank you so so much for going in his boat - he is my hero and there will never be a leader like him, he gave us our freedom, Turkey that you’re travelling through today, he gave us our language of today. Safe journey xx
Thank you Pelin - there are lots of places you mentioned that we hope to visit and share along the way ... we are delighted so many people are able to join us and see more 🤗💐🚐

Dear Marianne and Chris you shouldn’t leave Turkey without visiting the east and south part of it. You should go to Gaziantep, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, Hatay, Adana, Mersin...You should feel Turkeys oriental side a bit more. There are lots of great places to visit. I’m sure you’ll be impressed when you read a bit more about Ancient Anatolia . At least go and visit Şanlıurfa-Urfa and Göbeklitepe. You should see silversmithing and goldsmithing, old churches and caves. Also worldwide known Turkish food. Turkish Cousine is Not just Kebabs and pides. Ottoman kitchen was really rich if you’re looking for vegetarian food. I think you don’t want to miss ancient civilisations cultural heritages. Lots of love 💕
This comment is going to be a little longer than usual. Samsun is the center of Turkey´s tobacco (tütün) production managed by the State Monopoly (Tekel) that gave good revenue to the State. Maybe you´ll find a way of taking a look at the tobacco fields. It is strong, well perfumed and exclusive tobacco. A man´s cologne is made for those who love its virile perfume. Ask for Tütün Kolonyasi! Scotland was perhaps the main supplier of steel boats already from the times they were riveted. The boats were good even when second hand. There´s an interesting anectode with the Bandirma. It left Istanbul almost clandestinely, with the Turkish officers disguised as simple peasants, on purpose! A French lady who was among the passengers did not like that kind of company. Two nights later that same lady admired the handsome, clean shaven, young officers as the peasants had vanished. I miss the glass of ayran that would go very well together with all these pide or even a bottle of cold beer. Ayran tastes best with a few grains of salt in it. Every city has the classical Turkish restaurant, the "lokanta" with different dishes shown on hot platters: filled peppers, bean stew with meat, the usual pilav, the spinach stew with eggs on top. Try them too. To my Turkish palate pilav with some meaty bean stew on top is a delight. I am re-living Turkey through your eyes and your company. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. Selâmetle!

This part of the video was my BONUS. WOO HOO!!! Thanks Chris. You are the man! The Bandirma ship was great! I haven't seen inside if it before, yet I saw it in your great video. Thanks for that. We don't think we managed to do much of Samsun and hope to go back before we go into Georgia ... so maybe we can do it then .. we didn't have many recommendations for the Black Sea area ... but we do now !! M
In 1815 Napoleon had a select cavalry called the "Grenadier à cheval". They were specifically selecting tall people who were mounting black horses, wearing tall bearskin hats and dressed up all in black, this regiment was used to intimidate the enemy. Guess what, according to the records the average grenadier à cheval's height was 5.4 feet tall. I guess people were smaller back then.
It would have been nice for sure - but we are going to be avoiding crowds for a while - van life and cities have never really been good together - but we hope to have given a taster and opened other people to try and travel more of the Black Sea
TREAD the globe I see. Just too eager to know more as this is a city we would like to include in our 3rd trip to Turkey. But definitely understand the concept and COVID-19 restrictions. We all much appreciate what you share. Thank you!

I just watched this and enjoyed it very much . I have made a note of the pide place’s name so I would go and try their pide if I could ever go to Samsun again. And your videos are so pleasant to watch because you talk to people, you walk along the side streets and live the real city and share it with us. And also Tks for pointing out Atatürk. Apart from many other incredible good things he has done for my country he gave us, Turkish women many rights so as a Turkish woman I appreciate him.

Hi guys! Yet another lovely video :) A couple (triple) tips: 1. İskender Kebap is indeed the favorite kebap of most Turkish people. It's originated from the city of Bursa. I was a little surprised that you haven't tried it before. 2. That unspoiled open coast road is like that, because it's built recently after filling in the sea with rocks. 3. I'm sorry to tell but that ship is a replica, not the original Bandırma. We haven't saved it :(
Another splendid video. Love it! By the way, the black seeds on top of your special pride at Sevgi restaurant are probably black cumin seeds. But you probably know that!
Hello! It’s not Turkish “independence’ since Ottoman Empire was also Turkish. Kurtuluş is translated as “salvation” to English. Kurtuluş War (Salvation War, not Independence War) started in Samsun in 1919 against Ottoman and allied occupations.
İskender Kebap was originally found in Bursa and named after its owner “İskender” he had patent right and it can not be sold as “İskender kebap” anywhere else but his restaurants. I recommend you to eat it at Bursa, in an İskender Kebap restaurant. I thing they have 4 or 5 original İskender kebap restaurants in Bursa.
hello guys, when you eat lahmacun, you need to put parsley (maydanoz in turkish), some lemon juice, then roll it and eat it :) Great videos, have fun in Turkey!
Yes! I was looking for the plate with shaved onions, parsley, & sumac. So good. I often claim to be vegetarian EXCEPT when Iskandar is on the menu. My favorite 😍 I miss it so much living in California.
Hi - we were told the dancing is off at the moment due to covid - the weather has been very unpredictable so it is always good to check online before you visit - we found it ok and we were told the only good months to visit are June, July and August - but we were there at the end of September and it was a very comfortable 25 day and 14 c at night 👍💐
*& eat as many of those Pide's, Kebab's & £ahmajunnnnnnnnnnnnnnn's = couldn't find HERE .... Best food in the world better than Sunday Dinner or French meals any time !!! I miss it so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*
Hello crazy guys 😃😃😃 just discovered your channel a few days ago, together with my father who is currently visiting me. Since then we have almost watched all episodes 😀 to be honest.... you are showing and explaining the life and spots in our home country in such a nice and funny way no one else could do. Thanks 🙂🙂🙂 I am from Şile near Istanbul which you have to visit, lovely spot at the cost with a nice harbour and beaches and also a pedestrian road.
@Gary Richardson hi, actually i am not there at the moment but my parents. Situation there regarding Covid is normal compared to Istanbul or at least not that risen. Same rules like in the rest of the country, wearing a mask is obligatory. Anyway, it is worth to see it even for a daytrip, it is fish season and you can catch a nice and sunny weather there even it is middle of OCT. I would recomend to go there at working days cause due to the near distance it could be overcrowded by Istanbulians in the WE, even now.
Welcome aboard! and Thank you for enjoying the videos with your father too !! we love that it is a family affair 🌺 we will put it on the list ... but will be sharing an idea of our route on Sunday evening during the live chat - it is a catch up really as there is so much to share and discuss with everyone 😉🌺
I think after Samsun city , you should also visit West of Black Sea. Amasra, Bartın, İnkumu and Cide. Now time is fresh fish time season and also you will find many historical places in Amasra. Good foods, old history and lovely people. Be safe and have a nice trip in Turkey.
Dear Marianne and Chris ; It was very enjoyable to drive the car to the rhythm of the music in the video between 19:36 and 19:39. we both love you. Do not go from this country. Oooo I'm still here, Chris I'm watching you

Yes - we hope to one day - there are so many beautiful places that we may never visit as Turkey is all so beautiful and so much to share !! thank you for your comment
Samsun pide is good but it's best when you live there and you prepare your own ingredients for the filling. You then take it to a bakery and they'll make it into pides for you.
It is a very nice feeling to research and learn the history of another country correctly. thank you very much. Every country should respect and recognize other countries. if you come to Alanya, i will be happy to show you the historical places of the city. Have a good holiday.

Wish you showed more of Samsun. All we saw was the boat and two stops for food we already know. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Cool, new English lessons, I like it so much I can't wait getting more and more 🙂 thanks a lot!
Thank you! 😃 We are delighted you are enjoying the videos and getting something positive from them - kind regards Marianne
@@TREADtheglobe Thank you so much your videos and your positive energy witch you give us! Can I ask something? You have sometimes also bad days? Enjoy your travel 😊
Hi Kirsi - no we do not have bad days .... we might have moments that are not perfect LOL - but we are old enough to know that there is no point wasting time on bad days !! if you encounter something you don't like ... change it or move on !! We are both blessed to be positive and we get on really well - after 25 years together we are good friends 😉🙌🚐💜 best wishes and stay happy - Marianne xx
This was great. We have a house in Samsun that we rent out but are thinking of going there to stay for holidays. This was a great insight :)
Happy holidays!
Another excellent episode I do love the cafes & food
Glad you like them Mike ! there is lots more to come !!
I love the food parts of the video 😘😘😘 And right now I am having my lunch, but I don't have pide 😢 Greetings from London 😍
Hello 😊 and thanks for the message - we hope to bring more food and maybe some recipes too !!

It was prefect.good luck🤗🤗
Hello There!!! We met on the park of the Migros in ORDU. I hope you enjoyed from your trip take care yourself.
So cool! It was great to meet you and we did !! what a fabulous place we loved the Black Sea coastline
This is so cool! I've been wanting to visit the Turkish coast for years!
That is great ... there will be more !!
We haven't saved it :(
Thanks for the tips! very interesting !!
Another splendid video. Love it! By the way, the black seeds on top of your special pride at Sevgi restaurant are probably black cumin seeds. But you probably know that!
Hi - No I did not !! Thank you for that info ... very very tasty !!
Hi all . The old tahir pass is spctacular. I went over it in late april 1973. It was in a mini bus just like Trudy with 11 other travelers
Wow - sounds fabulous !!
Hello! It’s not Turkish “independence’ since Ottoman Empire was also Turkish. Kurtuluş is translated as “salvation” to English. Kurtuluş War (Salvation War, not Independence War) started in Samsun in 1919 against Ottoman and allied occupations.
the most beautiful place in samsun in atakum. you loved it very much if had visited atakum
We will hopefully visit there one day and we will try it there for sure - thank you for your message 🎉🌺
hello guys, when you eat lahmacun, you need to put parsley (maydanoz in turkish), some lemon juice, then roll it and eat it :)
Great videos, have fun in Turkey!
Agreed. I also put some thin sliced tomatos.
Yes! I was looking for the plate with shaved onions, parsley, & sumac. So good. I often claim to be vegetarian EXCEPT when Iskandar is on the menu. My favorite 😍 I miss it so much living in California.
Thanks for the tips! Just like etli ekmek !! woo hoo
Another lovely vlog guys keep them coming 😎👍
Thanks 👍 We will !! and live chat on Sunday evening !!
lovely scenery along the Black Sea, could you show some folk dances of the region like Horon? how the weather in this time of the year?
Hi - we were told the dancing is off at the moment due to covid - the weather has been very unpredictable so it is always good to check online before you visit - we found it ok and we were told the only good months to visit are June, July and August - but we were there at the end of September and it was a very comfortable 25 day and 14 c at night 👍💐
*20 odd years ago I have seen Samsun ~ changed a lot it seems* Thx for your vid Chris !!!*
*& eat as many of those Pide's, Kebab's & £ahmajunnnnnnnnnnnnnnn's = couldn't find HERE .... Best food in the world better than Sunday Dinner or French meals any time !!! I miss it so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*
Ha Ha - we will try and share as much as we can ... and there will be more for sure !!
You are amazing♥♥♥ Iskender is my favourite too!!!
Woo Hoo !!
Great Idea ... we are heading that way 🤗
hy nice video love turkey
Thanks for visiting
Dear Marianne and Chris ; It was very enjoyable to drive the car to the rhythm of the music in the video between 19:36 and 19:39. we both love you. Do not go from this country. Oooo I'm still here, Chris I'm watching you

SÜPER VİEDEO THANK YOU
Samsun pide is good but it's best when you live there and you prepare your own ingredients for the filling. You then take it to a bakery and they'll make it into pides for you.
Sinop my hometown. Enjoy it!
Woo hoo
Dayı gurur duydum seninle adamsın 😉
Very interesting video and you add very good informations like a documentary. Im proud of you two 👍
Thank you 🌺
Hello guys. Turkey is the best. I love the country
It is a very nice feeling to research and learn the history of another country correctly. thank you very much. Every country should respect and recognize other countries. if you come to Alanya, i will be happy to show you the historical places of the city. Have a good holiday.
Glad you enjoyed it! We are having a live chat on Sunday evening and we will be able to let you know the route / plan
@@TREADtheglobe of course, see you.
Good that you had a haircut Chris ! In previous video I thought you were growing a mohawk 😎🤣
I wish! I don't have enough hair for that LOL - yes Marianne cut it all off !!
Hello! As a samsunda resident, I watched your video and loved it. But I wanted to give you some advice. There are natural beauties that can be seen in samsun, but you have not been to many of them. If you're in the way one more time Şahinkaya canyon, angry delta, bird sanctuary, Westpark, nebiyan mountain, cakirlar grove, Ladik lake, bayraktepe natural park, Kabaceviz waterfall, Vezirsuyu natural park, Yakakent çamgölü promenade area, You can visit Tekkeköy caves, sarıgazel natural park and many other beautiful places, Have a nice :) 🌻 (I used google translation because my English wasn't good😂, I hope I didn't make a typo. Love from Turkey🇹🇷💕🐞
Thank you for your message - we hope to come back one day and visit more - thanks for the advice 🌺
Hey! I have been following you since your entrance to Turkey around May. I have not missed out any of your, all hard worked episodes. On the way back to Istanbul do not miss out Bursa which has many interesting places to see. 700 year old Ottoman village, the tombs and the endowments of the founders of The Empire. Mount Uludağ as the Ski Capital of Turkey. You had already seen the amazing little island of Gölyazı on the way forward to Antalya.
Awesome! Thank you! We will try and see as much as we can ... Turkey is so big and so beautiful there is always something in every corner to share ... we are enjoying showing some different places, the places that Trudy takes us has been amazing !! we will be doing. a live chat on Sunday to share more 💐
@@TREADtheglobe perfect. If I can I will join the live chat event. Please keep in mind to visit Bursa. Before you enter city. İznik will be on the way!(a must see place)

Very nice video 😊👍👍👍
But why is the sea on your left side at 21.37?? It always be on your right side...🤔🤔🤔
Because they apparently reached the peninsula and turned right in order to drive towards downtown Sinop.
