First time I’ve seen Matt so concerned, his sense of urgency and direct orders reminds me of a Sgt Major I had. Beautifully executed, I love how Matt feels more at ease as soon as Rudy gets there.

The look of concern on Matt's face throughout this video is quite telling. He knows the serious this is. Kudos man, you know when it time to up the game. On a lighter note...another physics lesson from Matt and Rudy. Vectors, gravity, trigonometry, coefficient of dynamic friction (aka, sliding (or not) down the hill with wheels locked. You know your entire business is mastering the physics. Master the physics=getting them out!
Every time he goes up there he looks like he's seen a ghost.
This is one stark example where it is vitally important to observe the non-existent posted speed limit of .5 mph. Nature's designated limit won't end well. If this comes to be a routine endeavor recovery it might pay to install an anchor point at the top.
I had the same face as Matt throughout the whole recovery! Now I'm anxious for no good reason so I'm going to snack on something unhealthy to calm down lol.

This was truly one of the sketchiest recoveries we've seen. Really nerve-racking. Can't even imagine being you and doing this. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. We made it through the pandemic by watching your recovery videos. My husband was lucky enough to see you in Logan Utah. He was thrilled to look over the vehicles and visit. Sadly he died completely unexpectedly in August. He spoke often of how very friendly and kind you were when he visited in Logan and I thank you for that. You are wonderful people. Hold tight to one another. I only had 31 years with my sweetheart wasn't ready to go on alone. Your videos are helping me get through some very difficult days. Thank you again for sharing

Matt's Off Road Recovery, You are not going to be believe this, but I know that black TJ. I have ridden many of trails in her. We used to call her Jade. Glad you got her and her driver home safe.
Props to the owner of the Jeep for getting in there and helping.
I'm going to guess she's a horse or cattle woman, used to tossing hay bales. She tossed those rocks like her body was accustomed to that kind of work.

FYI, the girl helping move the back of the jeep and rocks is not the customer/owner of the jeep.
I was quite impressed with her attitude and capability. She called it quits once she realized she was in over her head, but the Jeep called it quits before she could get out of there.
By far the best channel ive ever found. No swearing, no falling out, no shouting, no ego, just great family and friends getting the job done and all working well together and clearly enjoying each others company, New subscriber from the UK. Makes me want to buy another Jeep, had a 4.0 Cherokee and a Willys

That Morvair is an absolute beast! Not only climbing the trail that has eaten so many rigs, but leaving the trail to go around them, and then pulling them out. Just awesome! and a little driver skill doesn't hurt matters either :)
Rudy seems very professional and at times fearless. Good guy to have around in a pinch.

When I visited Toquerville Falls I kept going just to see that hill. I walked up it and there is no way that I would drive up that hill. But the scenery from there is magnificent!
The lady made up for her lack of any in her own right for even attempting though best not to be alone doing it. It might be wise to wear at least a bicycle helmet and some neck padding in the event the wheels don't take you off the trail.

When Lizzy jumped in she was as jolly as always, utill the gravity of situation dawned on her too. You can clearly tell that between the cuts. No surprise, when there is urgence in Matt’s voice even, than you should be properly scared.
When we jump into the driver's seat we can feel what is really going on. That isn't always fun.

I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but I felt compelled to comment on your channel. I just found your channel and love the content. I have been binge watching for a couple of days and noticed that I have not heard one single curse word or fowl language of any kind. That is awesome. Keep up the great content. Oh, and all of you are CRAZY. LOL

Every recovery we've seen on this hillside has been a nail-biting experience
Matt, not sure if you will see this but this is my old TJ that I built up a few years ago. To provide some context why this axle seized up, I threw in a lunchbox locker and some other suspension upgrades to make it more trail worthy, this lunchbox locker had always given me trouble. My guess is that one of the pins broke inside of it and caused issues with the locker. I noticed the axle freed up while going down the hill, from my experience in this TJ, the spartan locker would not disengage unless the you pulled the transmission into reverse (I believe this is due to the transfer case getting stuck in 4WD). Anyways, its good to see the ole' TJ getting some use.
I can't imagine how awful that must have felt, stuck alone on the side of the steepest hill your vehicle can climb. Every time you shift your weight in your seat, you can feel the entire vehicle slip a little bit more. Leg muscles are burning from holding the brake, and the knowledge that letting up the pressure on the brake pedal, even a little, is a death sentence.
I bet Stephen King could make that into an entire nail-biting novel. Especially if her cell phone was dead or out of service.
Not a death sentence, you can just bail out.
@@aus71383 people often get run over by their own vehicles when they try bailing out. There's a reason experts often suggest wearing your seatbelt any bracing yourself if your vehicle starts to roll.
@@keelanbarrette529 That makes sense if it's moving, but if you're sitting on a hillside with your foot on the brake, you can think through your options.
Why not just put it in reverse or first and shut off the engine?
@@percyfaith11 cause gears can fail and not hold. Especially if they where all ready having issues like the drive shaft locking up. Who knows what else could be broken.

One subtle but super important thing I've always appreciated is how Matt always asks Rudy what he would do instead of just calling the shots.
The beauty of the environment really makes me want to visit Utah, the fact that this road just exists and doesn't have 10 gates and warning signs makes me think I'd actually love it there.

That is how you see what your 2nd in command is thinking, and weigh his thoughts against yours. That is a part of how a leader develops his people so they can take his place some day, seeing his thought process and watching him grow.

Here is a suggestion that worked for me when I was in a similar situation...
I was backing down a sand hill that I couldn't make it up. I lost my ability to steer in the soft sand, and the truck was getting more and more sideways and was about to roll. So I took it out of 4x4, put it in 1st gear (not reverse so it wouldn't roll backwards) and intentionally spun the back tires. As soon as the tires began to spin, gravity pulled the back of the vehicle straight because of the loss of traction in the rear. There was only 2 of us, and we wouldn't have been able to move the back of the truck by hand.
This was such a scary rescue. Everyone was on edge. See how fast Matt wanted to anchor and stabilize that jeep that shows just how terrible of a situation this was. Great job getting everything done without any harm just awesome.
Matt is usually so laid back when you hear that urgency in his voice you know its real

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Matt look so concerned and or be that in a hurry arriving. We the viewer could tell on the GoPro it was steep which means it is steep AF in reality.

When Matt was trying to drive around her Jeep, I was astonished at the Morrvair's traction. That thing is as good as a tank! Another incredible rescue that had me on the edge of my seat!

That thing is a beast. The way it handled that steapy part and the badass way Matt drove it pushing the exact amount needed to overcome the loss of traction was really astonishing.

@@jeremyspecce They don't do it often for liability reasons, but in this case it was the right call to make.
Yeah, Matt's explained before that he doesn't do that or even suggest to the customer to do it because it exposes him to liability if something happens later with the tire. It's almost always simpler for him to deal with the vehicle as he finds it.
Ever since GToger's channel went somewhat quiet, this has become one of my new favorite things.

Take another look at the girl that was helping and then at the end when they were talking to the owner of the Jeep, two different people. The one helping had a white hat and blue shirt, the owner had a ponytail and a black shirt. Only the owner was seen in the Jeep at the end, so it's fair to assume the other girl came along with Matt's crew.

@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper Yeh, it looked like she arrived with Rudy. The first time you see the woman with the white hat is when she walks up the slope behind Rudy.
This backup method seems easier than pulling them up to the top and turning around, great job!
the problem is the brake bias in cars are set up to the front, meaning that they dont stop very well when going backwards, as the front wheels will lock up. It is the same principle used in a J turn.
1M subs is right around the corner at this rate. Amazing work on that terrifying hill. That Morvair build is absolutely in its element for this sort of situation.

If Matt shows up looking worried, understand how deep in the doodoo you are. Amazing teamwork.
Matt is a excellent team leader. His primary concern for everyone at that scene was the safety of his team and the customer. You could see the weight of that on his face when he was evaluating the task at hand... While towing is his profession I don't think it would break his heart if that particular trail wasn't there. This crew works well together, and he is lucky to have them...and they are lucky to have him. In my profession I was around and worked with tow companies on a fairly regular basis, and frequently in precarious situations. You can tell the pros from "the not so pro", believe me.
I love it when Matt asks for input from Rudy. He is weighing Rudy's plan against his own, evaluating it (and him) and watching Rudy grow as a leader. That is how a leader develops the talent that will follow him someday. They work together to find the best plan, and Matt implements it, knowing Rudy is growing into a skilled pro in his own right.

Although, it’s hard to tell in the video how steep the hill is but Rudy standing at an angle and Matt “holy shit” face makes it pretty clear that hill was steep! Had my heart almost racing just watching! Great video!

For me that was the second most serious I have seen Matt. The other time was when those couple of gentleman you pulled out the night before and the next day they hadn't made it home.
This is why Matt takes his family and crew out and has everyone doing the hard stuff!! This crew has it going on!

That was by far the best recovery I’ve seen to date by MORR. Superdopper. Brilliant team work, seriously steep terrain. Awesome customer, you go girl, very capable and adventurous young lady. Also nicely set up Jeep.

I have to say, if i was having to do this rescue, i would have something a little stronger to say than Matts "Holy Smokes" Matt must do all these rescues right after Church.

That's a sweet combination of offroading skills, a more than capable machine, staffed by a committed team that refuses to give up! Not many people are even capable of rescuing a vehicle from that hillside, and you make it a regular occurrence, AND record it from multiple angles.

That was badass. On a climb that steep, I would definitely be wearing a helmet walking around. Slipping and rolling down gets violent real fast.
I’ve hiked a number of steep hillsides with loose rock. Myself rolling down never was a concern of mine, it’s pieces of rock bouncing down the slope, often kicked loose by other people above you is what you have to look out for. Ideally you make sure you are never directly below somebody else. I once had to throw myself to the ground to have a rock bounce over me. Protection against falling rock is what I would wear a helmet more. It’s the reason you wear a helmet when rock climbing, as a protection against pieces of rock or equipment falling down.
Every time I see a recovery on this hill I leave clench marks in my own seat. Kudos to you and your team Matt.
