    She sounded shaky because that song was for the man who assaulted her and then tried to ruin her career because she didn't keep her mouth shut. That performance was TO him. That shaking is not her out of breath, it's not bad singing, it's rage.

      That "shakiness" is what gives me chills! There is so much raw emotion in this song it's impossible not to feel it. You can feel the rage, the strength, the pain. It's such a "real" song, her imperfections are what makes it so powerful!

    Anyone who says that Kesha can't sing has clearly not seen this video. You could hear the raw emotions and passion she had while singing the song. It doesn't bother me that she didn't hit that high note because I know that it probably took her several tries. I love the high note don't get me wrong,but her powerful low notes hit me right in the heart.

      She can definitely hit it, but I imagine it's kind of like needing a running start for that the rest of the song doesn't give her. And she's said her management didn't want her to do it because hitting such high notes over and over can wreck your voice. The original recording is like a drawing, an artist can never perfectly replicate it, even the original artist. So she wanted to get it exactly how she wanted it for the recording.

    She could always sing. She was just doing a style that her former record company wanted from her. She's an excellent songwriter & plays piano. There are some great videos of her singing country behind the scenes on some of her tours that I found a few years ago and wondered when she was gonna release something that was true to her natural sound. We finally have it & I love it. That high note I would dodge too. It's tough to make it not sound like a dying cat. It order for me to hit it I have to switch to a more classical sound and sing it through "the mask of my face" like my voice teacher taught me. Otherwise I have to basically scream it to get that same sound which is not comfortable.

      Michele Nichols well, not to mention shes fighting a lot of emotion in this song. AND it took quite a few tries to my understanding for her to even hit that note in studio. Even so, EVERY performance of Praying that i have seen live has been extremely emotional. Someone showing that much in a song wouldnt be able to hit that type of note simply due to the strain of emotion theyre going through whilst performing. Idc she didnt hit it. Simply because she put a LOT of herself and what she has been through into that song. ❤❤❤

      @bettym4859 6 лет назад +42

      well i was surprise she didnt bust out in tears, if that wouldve been me, i wouldve cried my heart out. I mean, the entire meaning of this song is about getting cut off with her abuser, so yea, kuddos to her!

    I have only ever hit that note three times in one sitting after almost two hours of warming up and I've never been able to hit it again. Totally understandable that she dodges it live.

    • @terik4990
      @terik4990 6 лет назад +28

      If you record a song that you know you will release and perform constantly, you better be able to hit those notes on the regular. If not, don’t do it in the first place.

    • @terik4990
      @terik4990 6 лет назад +9

      Annie Todd then the note shouldn’t be in the song. If she had to attempt it so many times that she wouldn’t even think of performing it live, it should not be there.

    • @analyssetodd1069
      @analyssetodd1069 6 лет назад +186

      LeftiSinger 66 is it like hurting you that she avoided it live or something? No need to get so worked up. I think the song sounds incredible in both versions and there is nothing wrong with her showing off her range in one song.

    • @terik4990
      @terik4990 6 лет назад +6

      Annie Todd showing off her range is great. By all means she should do that. But as someone who loves to sing and perform, it is a huge pet peeve for me when artists release songs they cannot do live. It’s one thing to have a hard note that you only perform live sometimes when you feel the moment is right, it’s another thing to have a note you NEVER perform.. dives me nuts.

To get to a point where she can write a song like praying and turn the situation around and say to who ever it's about "look, you've hurt me but i hope you can find time and reflect and heal and become a better person in time" shows an insane about of courage and strength. the song definitely takes an extra layer when you factor in southern dialogue and such because often "im praying for you" will be as much a two faced comment like "oh bless their heart" so the song can both be interpreted as "i hope you become a better person" and "i hope what you did haunts your soul so much that even praying to god for help isnt enough"

      Yes! Thank you...that honestly is what I got from it. Especially with the line "some things only God can forgive" which interprets to "i can't forgive you" so there is undoubtedly anger there and it's hard to hope for good things for someone you've been so hurt by.

    I know a couple people said she didn’t do good during the Grammys but I disagree with them cause the only reason her voice sounded shaky during the performance was cause she was almost crying by how emotional the song is but I know Kesha is really really good

      Not almost. She's sobbing at the very end, and everyone surrounds her and holds her up as she's starting to fall apart. The fact that she could get thru the whole thing without stopping when she knew he was in the audience watching her is a level of fortitude most people never have to find.

      She finally escaped the monster of the producer she was under. She won her court case and was released from her contract.
      Not only did he make her produce music she didn't want to make and purely for money, he also raped her almost a decade I believe.
      I used to hate Kesha when she first came about, but this is great. Regardless of the story behind it this is objectively good and a significant improvement from her old music (which she had no choice in). The story behind it makes it that much better. She escaped and made it through. Now she can live her life by her own rules.
      I'm proud of her.

    her high note that she hits in the studio is very hard to hit even if she took a couple tries its hard to sing like that in real life. you have to work at it a lot I think she can sing pretty well. Singing live is much different then in studio not everything's going to sound the same right off the bat she can also take lessons to get her voice to do it live she did change her vocal, but like I said singing live is much harder. People who can't sing or haven't even tried shouldn't judge if they haven't done it.

      John miller lol this is one of my pet peeves when people can’t infer something simple that I wrote.
      Let me make it more clear and simple for you:
      I did not say that she cannot sing. In fact she’s an amazing singer with a powerful voice. All I’m saying is she needs more practice singing the style she’s singing. She used to sing pop songs like tik tok that didn’t require a lot of vocal skill but now she’s completely changed and is singing what she wants which is harder. You can definitely tell in her other performance like the grammys that her voice is very shaky and it sounds like she’s running out of breath a lot. That’s it. But I’m not a professional so I can only say it’s my opinion. Hope you get it now. 🤣✌️

  • @colinmcd8541

    In her defense she did say that she wouldn't do the high note a lot live since in the studio it took her over 10 tries to actually hit it in the studio! She did say that she would try to do it at least once or twice but, not a lot.

      Sofiadelsy While I agree with you I have to say that good technique doesn't prevent vocal damage. If you are constantly singing too much (think about Whitney Houston) you will still damage your voice. Good technique slows down that process but isn't going to stop it. But of course that's not an excuse to sing with terrible technique especially because most people will never tour their voices to exhaustion.

I've heard a few live performances of Praying and based on all of them, she is overall amazing. Yes she is not perfect and she has a lot to improve. She strains her voice and push it more than necessary from time to time and seems to struggle to control it sometimes. But it could also be just because of the emotions, which she delivers very well and that's honestly something I cherish more than some perfect singing.

    • @angelomateiu2942
      @angelomateiu2942 6 лет назад +2

      That note, i believe it's at the end of her vocal range like so... I do believe when she feels confident enough to hit that note she will, but then again if for her that note is actually that high, as you can well see, hitting that more often than she should or doing that every time she sang the song live just so you can be satisfied about a freaking note could dramatically damage her vocal cords. :) Look at Celine Dion, she doesn't always do her big note in "All by my self", or Demi Lovato with her immense note in Stone Cold, or even Whitney Houston in some songs she did not do every note like the studio ones. (I'd even include Mariah Carey, but we all know that she can barely be an "average" singer these days). So yeah and also knowing Kesha's past type of songs, i don't think she has a really brilliant technique and experience to sing such a powerful strong with absolutely every single high note she has in "Praying" all the time. :) ( No offence to anyone)

    well I really dont know why people say that she cant sing in her past times of tik tok and die young, well that was pop music, a lots of artists nowadays sing like that and no one is blaming them, so why kesha??? is my question....cause she CAN sing

    Wow. I could really feel her pain with this song. I was really surprised she didn’t start crying because it’s so filled with emotion ❤️🌸❤️🌸
