It is very possible that women on average do not respect weak men. They will not stay with a weak man. I am sure many a marriage was saved back then because the husband brought his wife in line. With a divorce rate at 50 percent right now, much of that is due to the emasculation of the man's role in society and his own family.

I think he means "good for Hunter that he was able to stand up for what is right (what Hunter thought was right)" Not good he got beat up. At least that's my take on the comment, perhaps a bit badly worded. Hunter was trying to set Junkie George right. That George could't handle that and hit Hunter, imo that would warrant self defence. If Hunter came prepared he should have pulled out his gun and delivered instant justice on George. Put that dog out of his misery. It's the only language these 1% understand. And also respect.

The changing of society (mid '60s through the mid'70s) and its attitude toward all forms of freedoms is on display here. Thompson was a rude foul mouthed piece of garbage! He was also a closed minded self serving drug adled moron who like all other liberal monsters believed in freedom of expression as long as you believe the same as they do! If I choose to be Godly and patriotic and stand up for my morality I'm to be ridiculed and publicly branded a bigot or facists!! When in reality it is the other way around!! Why do liberal turds like Thompson have this insane urge to force their beliefs on me! If I don't accept and embrace them then I am to be ridiculed and slandered! To each his own! So stop forcing your toilet lifestyle on me!

@@Popesontour so you criticize Thompson and liberals for ridiculing and labeling you a bigot and a fascist for being "Godly and patriotic", while you label Thompson as a moron and liberals as monsters! You accuse Thompson of being rude and foul mouthed, while you refer to liberals as turds. You claim to support freedom of expression but you bemoan Thompson's freedom of expression because you see it as something which is being forced on you. You claim to have been slandered, while referring to Thompson as a piece of garbage. You say Thompson is closed minded, while saying you don't accept another point of view. And you have the temerity to refer to yourself as moral? As with many "Godly", hyper patriots you love to play the victim. And the electric acid cool aid test i think had some dealings with HTS.....it just became cool ovce id read so many that the characters all overlapped. There was timoty leary also and jerry garcia and slash.....alot of em begam to overlap

    • @felipedourado5721
      @felipedourado5721 2 года назад +2

I've seen some photographs of HST after the beating, he was pretty "smashed", if you will, his face was swollen in a really bad shape and, after all, the so called "fair fight" is not a concept that belongs to so tight-knit groups as mororcycle clubs so, he got four of them against him. Considering that, I don't know if it's easy for a man to simply forgive such stomping and just have a few beers with his "executioners" aftewards acting like nothing had happened.
Much more if the man who got the beat thought he was right since the beginning. And, mostly, since from that very moment, it seems to me that any shade of ilusion or enchantment that HST could have about the HA just broke down, as he realised that his principles and theirs would always clash. So, probably the best way to go was just to walk away without looking back again.
I also think that the situation that occured to HST is, somehow, similar to what happened to several artists, writers and intelectuals of the sixties. I mean, they belived that bikers (not just Angels) were kind of a "frontline" of the counter culture. It was a understandable mistake to commit back then since bikers were kind of the "ultimate free souls" and hippies shared with them some aesthetic clues, behavioral aspects and tastes. But once that those artists, writers and intelectuals could tell the differences that put the biker world apart of the hippie/counter culture world, each one followed their separed paths.
In short, what happened in Altamont was, to the eye of the big public, what happened before, in an other scale, to HST, a clash between social and demographic groups that shared some superficial aspects and the same zeitgeist, but were different on their respectives core values.
Hope this help to clarify some key elements of that rich and exciting Era.
Peace from Brazil to everyone. ✌

As fate would have it I also witnessed this same man beaten, his heels placed on the curb and his opponent stomp and break both of his legs below the knees. Later in hospital this same man asked me why I stood by and did nothing to help him. I told him that karma is a bitch and perhaps now he knew how his old lady felt when he beat her. Men of violence ARE ALL "PUNKS" and mark my words, karma is a bitch.

    a) a previous confrontation needs resolving about a man's right to beat his wife
    b) man defending wife beating gets about 85% of talk time
    c) man who came to defense of wife and was beat up for it is cut off at the end unable to give his side of the story
    What a program.

when people are drunk, sometimes violence occurs, and the custom of men not hitting women, bing a part of the code of chivalry, is not respected by lower class people. Bikers are predominantly lower class people, as far as education and behavior is concerned. A woman who stays with aman who beats her is actually the femalecountrpart to a wife beater. in other words, if she was a man she would be a wife beater too. because she is a lowlife like her 'old man'. Beating a dog for defending it's mistress? There just ain't no churching THAT up.

The audience laughs at Hunter as “guilt by association, if you associate with these unredeemable types, you deserve whatever you get.” But he probably saved the woman’s life, by distracting away from her beating and it’s probably one of the best things he ever did for anyone, and certainly establishes that he was a real man, and that the angels were cowards, no matter how big a pack they ran in, and that that’s why cowards run in a pack.

I remember looking for this interview, years ago, it's great to finally see it.
But I wonder why it hasn't occurred to some of the other commenters that this was pretty much a staged interview. The audience is being told exactly when to laugh, the HA being allowed to bring his bike in, (you can just imagine some hip young broadcaster guy saying how 'edgy & cool' that would be), & HST looking incredibly uncomfortable, because it didn't want to do it that way, if at all.

That would not be the way things work today and by judging Hunters demeanor he knows Skip is right, he made bank off them and then trashed them. It gives you an insight into proper etiquette among people who are drunks and bullies. I'm surprised that Hunter was less than conciliatory with him on the show.
But dealing with bullies is tricky. How you handle yourself in these situations is what they look for.
They don't mind crazy, they don't mind publicity, but they constantly test to see if you are a stand up guy or a punk.
Hunter should set up a meeting with them and just bring the beer. Send the books by mail later. But make peace with them.

I always like when people say "I dont care what anyone thinks of me" yet they thought to voice that so they might care a whole lot what people think, so they go to extremes to prove the point.

Interesting bio/documentary. Hunter Thompson was a great American writer. I cracked up when the guy asked “what happened to the kegs of beer you promised us?” 😂🤣😂🤣😂

WOW. That guy is lucky that HA even opened the doors to him. So wrong about beating his ol' lady. But with that said. He broke a few rules when it comes to HA or any 1 percenter MC. You stay out of there business. The only ones to stop a member is another member. He also made a promise that he broke. That in the MC world is 100% disrespect to the club. He should of went back and apologized to the whole club and it would of been all good. But he could not even look him in the eye he knew he did wrong. If you don't have a clue on that lifestyle you can't talk. I don't like some of the things but I respect them for all that they do. And back in those days yes they beat their women and everyone turned a blind eye not just in the MC world but also real world. Difference is door open door closed.

The way this is told, makes me believe Hunter S. was a truly brave man. Stood up to oppression and conformism in many forms.

Junkie George? That was funny but, NOT! Hunter told George how bad that was. Good for him!

some of what the angel said, quoting HST is too funny to be spontaneous .HST might be his writer. it is pretty scary, though. it has a ring of truth to it. Bill Murray and Johnny Depp forged a friendship ,having both played him on the big screen .Bill told Johnny that Thompson would always be a part of them both, and Johnny agreed.

You just wonder how things would have went if Hunter had sent 4 kegs,on ice up to their party. Thompson's "Hell's Angels" was the first book I read after High School graduation. The book did make the rounds. I had to look and yes it is in my local library, my favorite Thompson book. I liked his shorter stories a good bit.

Only a fearless and brave man beats their wife and dog, Hunter was right to say what he said, he should also have made good on his kegs of beer promise.
