As soon as quartz movements came into the scene he switched Citizen eco-drive or G-shock and now he only wears his apple watch
I'm like that one pilot who has packed several watches. When I get on a plane, I pack watches for the destination, and one for travel. Usually a nice GMT or Chronograph for the flight. One low key cheap quartz digital for the urban jungle and streets, and any requisite watch for the occasion, ie. dress watch or GADA for formal, or sports watch for activities and water. Usually a diver. A Casio G Shock could almost cover all bases if I'm lazy, except for the formal events. A watch is an accessory of a learned gentleman! The pilot without a watch, now that was blasphemy LOL!

Recently did a trip to Portugal, on the flight met two gentlemen, one had a vintage chronograph with a Landeron 48 movement with gold case (a beauty), the other had a rarely seen Breitling: day/ date, which is based on an ETA movement but has the highest grade(chronometer or élaboré??? which one does Breitling take and or customize). Very interesting chaps & watches.👍⌚️
I like my Seiko gmts but for the accuracy and changing time zones easly, Casio Lineage(multiband6) is my favorite. Sapphire is good for the tide 37 cockipt.
I know six airline/retired airline pilots. The two young guys, age 30-ish, wear Apple watches. The old timers said they wore inexpensive watches, especially quartz ones. None of them ever had a Rolex, Glycine, Breitling or some other traditional aviation watch.
They're repeating/remembering in their heads the procedures and steps on how to start the engines on the plane and how to land!!!😆😂 That's why they don't want to be taken out of concentration!😁
The term, pilots watches is a relic of the past. Why do you need a pilots watch flying an A-350 from LAX to SYD. With a massive glass cockpit? Or flying your Bonanza with a garmin 1000 or 3000. Or flying a F-35 with gloves trying to work pushers on your Daytona or Breitling.
You should make your way to Teterboro to check out what we who fly Gulfstreams, Globals and Falcons are wearing. Depending on the day, I’ll have a Bulova Lunar Pilot, Wolbrook Douglas Skindiver WT Professional, Dufrene Barton Springs II or Seiko SKX003 on my wrist. Waiting for my AD to come through with a Batman…
🍎Disadvantages: Signal loss from cell company or sometimes inside heavy buildings...forget to charge the smart...not good watches for beach, salt water, pools at destination..... Nothing beats a good quartz, mechanical model....⌚️
Aplle watch functions are perfect for airline pilot job Digital number is easy to read minuts and also good for night operations. Most important function is schedule display, and time change in other country You don't have to change your watch I know citizen and seiko has time change function but i can see my flight schedules in my apple watch But my favorite watch is rolex gmt
One of the problems is that you’re on the East Coast in the two most junior bases, so you’re going to catch a lot of young people who probably are mostly into Apple watches. I’m just thankful you didn’t catch a Delta guy like in the last video. Dude was embarrassing. Fun video
Good effort. Might I make a suggestion: instead of asking immediately what they are wearing, first introduce yourself. Say that you host a channel on RUclips, focused on pilots, and the watches that they choose to wear, and why. It gives them a chance to understand why you’re stopping them, and that you’re not some suspicious dude that just wants to see if they have something expensive on their wrist. Don’t rush with the question. It also gives them an opportunity to say if they have other watches in their collection at home, and why they like them.(ps - don’t forget to smile 😊)
Would love too but no time to do all that. As you can see I'm actually walking with them at times additionally NYC. Thanks for the input and will try to get a sweet spot.
If you want to see a variety of watches you’re going to need to go to smaller general aviation airports. At the ATP level the supermajority are wearing a smartwatch for all of the other information. The fact it tells time is a secondary feature.
@@erikkinginnyc I actually purchased *my* Apple Watch with the intention of using it for various flight information through ForeFlight. It's beyond useless in that role with battery life insufficient for a moderate day of flying. Beyond being my least favorite watch, it's actually my least favorite device! For now it continues to monitor my sleep and short physical activities (because again, it won't last long enough for a proper run/ride). When I'm flying and need a timepiece for navigation it's either a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer, or a G-SHOCK AWG-M100. There's a Seiko SSC813 in the box as well, but I haven't flown anything since I bought it earlier this week.
Avionics are so different and precise today. In the old days pilots tracked ZULU/GMT and flew legs and approaches based on their watches. Not necessary anymore unless gps gets hacked
But on the other hand pilots are relaying too much on the technology (tablets, Apple watches)... and when the technology fail many new pilots don't know how to calculate time, speed, fuel for example with an analog watch with a slide rule...or using a pilot's slide rule by hand... For that reason many new pilots are called "Magenta Pilots" because many only know to follow the magenta line on the screens of his/her tablets...until technology is out!...and that is dangerous.... Pilot must know the old ways too, to navigate, calculate, using VORs, NDBs, etc. (I'm a Private Pilot since 2006)
love the content, small suggestion though, from what I cal tell some of these people you interviewed here seemed to be interested in chatting more, maybe don't finish it off too fast?

@@arden18 Yes, you're right with accuracy. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I would have wished the Pilot at least had a mechanical watch. Digital was just disheartening.
@@RD-Opinion Agree!
One question a Fighter Pilot will Never Ask: “do u think my watch is too big?” 🇺🇸👍
Ha, Yes! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I know six airline/retired airline pilots. The two young guys, age 30-ish, wear Apple watches. The old timers said they wore inexpensive watches, especially quartz ones. None of them ever had a Rolex, Glycine, Breitling or some other traditional aviation watch.
Thanks for the insight. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The pilots seem like they don't want to be bothered
@@dallaseggleston4731 100%! Hard to get them to stop so most are walking with them. Thanks for watching.
They're repeating/remembering in their heads the procedures and steps on how to start the engines on the plane and how to land!!!😆😂
That's why they don't want to be taken out of concentration!😁
The term, pilots watches is a relic of the past. Why do you need a pilots watch flying an A-350 from LAX to SYD. With a massive glass cockpit? Or flying your Bonanza with a garmin 1000 or 3000. Or flying a F-35 with gloves trying to work pushers on your Daytona or Breitling.
@@waynesilva3129 Apparently you are correct. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ask the F18 pilot who had to eject with a Breitling Emergency on his wrist
Will you be doing divers next?
Oh, its coming in a big way!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!

great!
Thanks so much.
Apple watch on a pilot….oh my Goodness. The world has changed more than I thought!

WISH I ran into you!!!! IWC pilots chrono
good work, get a still frame on the watches from each of them...they look as if that's what they want
Agree. Time is definitely not on my side.
Ask military pilots. And officers
Would love that and had one ex military at the end of my last vid. Thanks for watching.
You should try ATL. That place is crawling with pilots.
@@ericmorris2831 True as thats the biggest hub I think! Thanks for watching and commenting.

You’re channel is great I can stop buying more watches
@@John-n7q9z No dont do that but hey, if everyone stops the prices will dive. Thanks for watching.
Pilots are practical people who like accessing lots of data quickly, hence the Apple watches (and other smart watches).
Apparently you are 100% right. Thanks for watching.
🍎Disadvantages: Signal loss from cell company or sometimes inside heavy buildings...forget to charge the smart...not good watches for beach, salt water, pools at destination.....
Nothing beats a good quartz, mechanical model....⌚️
Aplle watch functions are perfect for airline pilot job
Digital number is easy to read minuts and also good for night operations.
Most important function is schedule display, and time change in other country
You don't have to change your watch
I know citizen and seiko has time change function but i can see my flight schedules in my apple watch
But my favorite watch is rolex gmt
@@김파일럿 Yeah, I get the ease of use. You have good taste with the GMT! Thanks for watching.
Everyone seems to accosted/afraid of some guy chasing them down and asking 'what kind of watch you wearing' like you're gonna rip them off.

In law firms and investment banks, some people are still wearing high end pieces. However, notably, Swiss luxury brands lost space to smart watches.
Yes. Thanks for watching and commenting!
One of the problems is that you’re on the East Coast in the two most junior bases, so you’re going to catch a lot of young people who probably are mostly into Apple watches.
I’m just thankful you didn’t catch a Delta guy like in the last video. Dude was embarrassing.
Fun video

Love your channel 😊alot of pilots are not friendly 😅only real pilot was Rokex GMT😊
Some are some not. Thanks for watching and commeting.
For shure! Thanks for watching.
If you want to see a variety of watches you’re going to need to go to smaller general aviation airports. At the ATP level the supermajority are wearing a smartwatch for all of the other information. The fact it tells time is a secondary feature.
Think you are right! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a Rolex GMT Master
But on the other hand pilots are relaying too much on the technology (tablets, Apple watches)... and when the technology fail many new pilots don't know how to calculate time, speed, fuel for example with an analog watch with a slide rule...or using a pilot's slide rule by hand... For that reason many new pilots are called "Magenta Pilots" because many only know to follow the magenta line on the screens of his/her tablets...until technology is out!...and that is dangerous....
Pilot must know the old ways too, to navigate, calculate, using VORs, NDBs, etc.
(I'm a Private Pilot since 2006)
@luistirado7049 Totally,.no where near the pilot skills pre VOR now gps. Moving off of analog is crazy, I wish it was half and half.
Apparently. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I was curious about which TAG Heuer that pilot was wearing since Heuer has not an image (not big at least) with aviation :/

I am a Private Pilot and I have 18 watches between Casio Sensor, Swiss Army, Wenger, Seiko, Torgoen T16 / T20, a Citizen Skyhawk A-T, a Traser, a Vostok Amphibia, a San Martin diver, and Bertucci...
About an all occasion watch I suggest the BERTUCCI brand of field watches...Especially the Titaniums...with Japanese or Swiss movements these field watches could cover almost ANY NEED for a pilot (or any person!)...
BE on a flight, meeting, mall, jungle, beach, trekking, you name it!!...even dress, you could select a good leather band for that purpose. Many Bertucci are 100-200M water resistant, GMT, screw-in crown, all weather bands, and Titanium is light as a feather. Many with sapphire crystals too...and prices in between $180-350.......

Great series, it says much more about how pilots behave with a waste of time solicitation than what watch they actually wear.
@@MB-uj7pp Thanks for as watching and commenting.
Interesting, no IWC PILOT 😅
I know, right?
Those pilots are moving as fast as their planes. Maybe one of them would let you calibrate your watch with theirs, and then get that cameraman to record the process while viewing the pilot’s watch.
