I'm laying here in bed flossing my teeth with one of those floss picks that have the plastic tooth pick attached to it. When I read that I just picked up one of my watches and push the floss down in there and the Spring Bar popped out and flew across the room. I can't believe it. That is a great idea. I'm going to use that all the time because most of my watches don't have drilled lugs and I hate marring them up getting the pins out. I like to change straps a lot. The floss is genius. Better than this tape idea honestly. By the way that take is the same tape that is used in heat transfer printing. It's stuck on to garments, mugs and anything else that is pressed with high heat which is why it doesn't leave residue play play you can get it from Amazon but I really think this is overkill
It's polyimide tape, commonly called "kapton" tape. It comes in various thicknesses, besides the typical width/length. It is commonly used in high temp applications (printed circuit board assembly, oven curing, etc.) It has tons of other applications, too. It is much "tougher" than your normal scotch or painters tape. It might be overkill if you are careful. You can buy it from Uline, Grainger, or McMaster Carr. These are common industrial supply businesses (in the US). Hope this helps. From an engineer that uses the stuff almost every day.
I agree with your point when it comes to scratching lugs via strap changes opposed to scratching the watch due to daily wear and tear. They are NOT the same 👍
Magnifying glasses are a must have to avoid scratches. Particularly when lugs are not drilled, very easy to see the shoulder and engage the bar properly with your tool. Tool doesn't slip, no scratch.
There are a lot of watch straps with quick release spring bars. If you change the strap often try these, they don't scratch. If been using this type for a few years now, and they has never come loose.
Totally agree! On this watch I cant use them as its a Seiko and they use fat 2.5mm spring bars that are not made however most are not fat. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I love this tip. Thank you. I won't be going out buying special tape, but I do already own similar tape, the red kind you used to find at grocery stores to seal off a produce bag.
Great tip, thank you! I love Bergeon tools. They are expensive but worth "every penny". I love them because you can buy the end tips individually and not the entire the spring bar tool again. Just unscrew the old broken tip and install the new one and presto. Thank you!
They’re made of steel. Jesus. Use a spring bar tool and take things off then put them back on. If the scratches get to you, take it in and have them buffed off. It’s not that difficult.
A good pair of strong reading glasses available from just about any drug store or pharmacy (or the big river store) and good lighting are my recommendation.
Nice content my friend, yeah you are correct take care your wrist watches, because I seen quite few in my time and oh boy, your like are you kidding me....thanks again until next time.... that's really nice Seiko you have there my friend.....
If I've got drilled lugs, I don't need tape. Never scratched one removing or attaching. I'm probably as OCD as you, but I just put 3.5x readers on, get my Bergeon tool like yours (don't use a cheap Chinese tool) and go to town. Wish all my watches had drilled lugs.
why not just buy the tweezer style removers, you just stick the forks in each side and just pinch them together like a pair of tweezers and the whole strap comes right up and straight out.
I’m not ok with any scratch from any even on my watch. Whether it be vacation or lug scratches from strap swaps. A scratch is a scratch and makes the watch look worse not have an identity like some say.
Why not tape up the whole watch while you’re at it. Won’t have to worry about any scratches ever again. 😅 IMO, it’s all part of the journey, regardless if it’s just a strap change.
@erikkinginnyc i get the point, and i appreciate it. I didn't realize that tape trick was a thing. Do a how to video for watches without drilled lugs. I have the hardest time changing straps. I've bought numerous tools and I'm awful. I typically stick with quick release these days.
Trying to keep the lugs clean, you literally scratched up the bezel area just by putting the watch face directly on the wooden table. Once you start teaching, at first try to make your job as neat as you can. You need steady hands to get these jobs much better.
@@erikkinginnyc Yes I discovered this brand last year and is my favourite brand, essentially watches to early 00’s (before Movado Group takeover). You have great content. 👌🏻
I own 15 watches. Zero of them have drilled lugs. Next time, show us how to remove a strap with quick release spring bars for an even more useless demonstration.
