    Thanks for the helpful video. I followed this to change my fluid and filter this last weekend on our 2012 T&C with just over 120k miles. Transmission shifts like brand new again. It' so silky smooth. (Was fine before the fluid/filter change. Just even better now)
    One note though, when I finally got the pan loose, the fluid exploded out of it and made a huge mess on my garage floor all around the fluid catch pan that I had under the transmission. To others doing this, make sure to watch out for this by putting some aluminum foil or something behind the transmission pan so if the pan suddenly drops and the fluid "explodes" out, it will hit the foil and drain into your catch pan below instead of coming out sideways and all over your driveway or garage.

      Hi... thanks for the note... the transmission may have acummunlated some presure that did not relieve... I'll try on my too but I will leave the fill plug off... may be the presurre will relieve... anyway, thanks for the comment... Quick question... How many oil quaters did take to fill to proper level after you put all back on place? Highly appreciate your input... Thanks...

    I installed WIX brand filter which is OE manufacturer and used the rubber gasket that came with it. Much easier than RTV application that requires expert application. Torqued the bolts and have zero leaks.

    My trans. Pan was starting to leak. Measured 5 qts. Removed. The great stuff silicone direction says to tighten pan nuts just enough to see silicone squeezing out at edges. Then wait 30 minutes before torquing pan bolts. Wait another 90 minutes after that before adding fluid. I replaced the pan with a new one that has drain plug. Using the dipstick video added 5.5 qts of new fluid.

    Excellent video. Gave me the confidence to do the job myself on my Town & Country. One tip from a Toxicologist (studies how chemicals hurt the body), if I may. Please never let anything touch your skin that you are not prepared to eat or drink. Why? Chemicals pass through the skin much easier than one would ever imagine. That's how nicotine patches and other things work. The chemical passes right through the skin in varying degrees. The thing with solvents and sealants is that these are really nasty chemicals that get inside the body and stay. You risk cancer, nerve disorders and other ailments. Gloves, gloves, gloves. I hate gloves too, and they make the job much harder. But what do you do? Your health comes first. Thanks to everyone for considering this information.

    Cool video and extra thumbs up for the killer mood music jams! left out it takes AMT +4 Fluid and
    FYI My buddy who works as a tech at the Chrysler dealership said 5.5 quarts for the 62 T or 62TE mole of transmission. Need dipstick cuz torch converter is gonna hold some fluid tho. The transmission dipstick video is awesome! Expectantly for those of us with high mileage rigs who may lose a little fluid here and there too! Great job thanks for making it!

      @@autobotavengerfireballxl5339 typically if you drain and fill, drive a 100 miles. Drain and fill again, youll get out like 70% of the old fluid. Think a 3rd drain and fill gets you over 90%. As long as you drain and fill it once every 24k miles you dont have to worry about old fluid. The factory probably says you can go over 100k before trans fillup or they say its lifetime fluid.

    My old timer shop teacher said to never use silicone for a trans pan gasket. You don't want any of those little pieces of silicone "shrapnel" gunking up those little ports and check valves, solenoids, or your new filter for that matter. Spend the $5 bucks and just buy a real gasket

    • @jth1987leb

    On the video you pointed us to regarding measuring the proper fill level of the transmission, the guy who marked his dipstick didn't even follow his own, inadequate instructions. In the video, he clearly overfilled his transmission because the fluid level was above his maximum mark on the dipstick! (One must know the temperature of the fluid before one can determine if the level that you get on the dipstick is within the recommended range.) The guy in the dipstick video just blows off the significance of the effect of temperature on the fluid level.

    Thank you, great video! The only thing I plan to do in addition is to just buy a pan with a drain plug. Also, in addition to wiping clean the pan and transmission surfaces I then use some brake cleaner to remove all oil and solvents. The RTV tends to "bite" and really adhere to the metal. Very good video here.

      @Guitarhero1000 5 лет назад +4

      @@jth1987leb You could Fluid flush it if it's been within maintenance spec, however, In my case I will do a fluid change. Because I am within manufacturers spec for change. NOT flush. In fact, a flush could cause more problems if you don't follow manufacturers maintenance because, believe it or not, after you are too far overdue for a transmission fluid change, flushing it at that point could cause problems because the metal flakes in the fluid is acting as a gripping agent for your syncrhos. So if you are 50-100k overdue for a fluid change, it's best to just do a fluid change instead of a flush. Flushing is a touchy subject.

    Two very important steps you did not describe. 1. You did not mention properly cleaning the surfaces where the gasket seal is applied. 2. You did not describe the proper bolt torque pattern - it appeared you just went around the outside - one bolt after another. Some would say neither of these things matter. I believe they do. Otherwise I enjoyed your video.

      Luis Torre in my opinion no. I didn’t want to do the fluid change on this customers van but they were hoping it would fix the issue. It didn’t. So after the fluid change the transmission got worse and they sold it. If your transmission is not acting up don’t touch it. When it comes to automatic transmission fluid changes and flushes its best practice to keep to the manufacture service intervals from day one. If you don’t plan to keep to that schedule don’t mess with the transmission at all. Again, this is my opinion. I’m not a licensed mechanic

      Then you don't know how to read an owners manual. It's 120,000 miles. If you drive under 'severe duty' conditions then 60,000. A service station will try to talk you into a fluid change at the 60,000 mark but if you're never towing then wait till 120,000 or when the fluid starts looking bad.
