Japanese doujinshi (basically indie) developers tend to be kind of insane with how good they are sometimes. Crazy how a lot of these games are solo devs
also, there is this whole stigma apparently around "Patreon", they see donation as begging and get embarassed or something so lotta creators there literally provide no way for you to support them or appreciate them by supporting financially whuch is a shame. this dev is no different either as memtioned in the video
@@btchiaintkidding7837 Fantia and Dlsite are where doujin devs usually release their stuff
@@btchiaintkidding7837
I don't think that's correct, since Ci-en and Enty do the same thing as Patreon. It's just that doekuramori doesn't charge anything.
@@NGMK i guess that means that he also has freedom to take his time and make it as he go
This reminds me of Helltaker. Where the creator thought there wasn't enough demon women in suits, so he made a game about them.
honestly, we should all learn to be inspired in the same manner as him
If this is a fetish thing. Its a very well made fetish thing.
Her character was mostly like been inspired by the Ghost in the shell protagonist but the TV version. The clothes and hair colour definitely looks like it.
Naw man, most likely the dev just likes to collect Megami Device figures
@@rickrollerdude I think they said in an interview in 2020 that Ghost In The Shell was a big inspiration for the first game, and also most of the sprites were actually made before the first game started development. The citadel came out in 2020, so we can't rule out inspiration from Megami Device, but it was likely secondary at most.
@@patrickiamonfire965plastic model kits - think of those injection molds where you cut out and assemble models military vehicles or gundams, but you put together hot anime girls with armor pieces that could have come from a power ranger megazord instead. Megami Device is a line of such kits.

I love the fact that doekuramori doubled-down on the "plot" after receiving backlash for the content of the first game. 10/10 developer.
I mean he also tweets about scat orgies with mc and the boy
To each their own I guess
Wasn't the backlash more about the accusations of drawing guro porn stuff? Personally, I don't really give a shit either way, so I didn't really follow up on it.

What's going on about backlash? I just following doekuramori after Beyond Citadel.
The Marathon 2 pistol is a nice inclusion, the dev has good taste
Looking at interviews, the dev loves Marathon. The Zeus fusion pistol showed up in the first game as well, with its charge shot and bonus damage against mech and cyborg units.
If he brings the dual wielding sawed off double barrel lever action flip cocking teleporting shell shotguns, my marathon fix is satisfied.
Or dual wielding pistols will be fine
_So disappointed the new one is an extraction shooter…_
@@FightCain very optimistic to assume the new one will even get released lmao
he literally uses the Marathon format for the terminals in this new demo, down to the messages. There's a shit ton of references.
@@bennyboiii1196 also, if you've ever tried to keep the Angelic Rifle after the boss fight (drop it before you enter the room with the purification device, run in and turn on the device, run out and pick it back up) first it will break and turn into the other angelic rifle design the creator has shown on Twitter while you're in the interlude, and then it turns into a nonfucntional, invisible Zeus pistol when you get back to the hub, so I think it's also going to be in beyond citadel

You know it's a Japanese game when you have to shoot God to death.
More hilariously, in the first game you abort a sleeping god-fetus by climbing into the Angel of Lust's womb. The Angel of Lust also being the genetic parent (being both the mom and dad since it's literally a male Martyr and a female Martyr joined at the hips) of Martyr and her twin brother, so technically Martyr aborted her younger brother and killed her mom with a nuclear bomb.
the SMT III Nocturne vibes is strong with this one
Hearing the classic C&C scream never gets old to me
Its honestly insane the dev isn't asking for funding for the games development yet. Ci-en is basically Japanese patreon yet the dev isn't even putting up subscription plans. The game looks great though can't wait to see how it progresses.
Also every shooter should let you see your body when you look down, especially ones with women with thick thighs.
GML, you've long cracked the 100'000, you're a huge Deal in the Review Scene and yet... and yet you kept that authenticity, that humble eye to eye level with your viewers it seems.
and i appreciate it greatly, that after all those years, your videos still give me that "home"-feeling.
i am just here to say "thank you"
If Gman called The Citadel "Waifustein" then this is Waifustein: The New Order (of dakimakura pillows)
waifustein: the new coom
I honestly love the art style being more of a throwback to the 80's/90's era of anime.
It's pretty unique, but I don't think that author aimed for retro-vibe. It's a dojin project, so you'll see styles in them that deviate more from the mainstream.
The first game is why I'm going to college to learn programming, and is also why I started work on my own FPS. I don't have much in it yet, but you can look down and see your body. From a mechanical perspective though, it's likely to end up as a mix of Guncaster, Spiderbot, Halo, and Armored Core- progression like Spiderbot, moment-to-moment gameplay like the others. I'm not sure, I injured myself and had to temporarily stop development, so I have working movement, enemy sprites, and a few testing levels, but that's about it.
Sounds cool man, keep learning and devving!
The fact that the original Citadel was written off as a fetish game while the same community welcomed Hedon with open arms says a lot about how inconsistent modern discussions about sexuality in media are. It's gross and wrong to put kinks into a game *unless* it's the one you like, in which case it's perfectly fine.
Hypocrisy is a hell of a drug.
Is this "community" with us in the room right now? Are they posting weird fetish gore on their twitter, like the creator of Citadel does? Are the telling you to hurt yourself or those around you?
Bro, gore isn't a kink, its mental illness.
What's fetish-y about Hedon? Is it just the presence of big muscular demon women? I'd say that's something very different from a game with fetishistically rendered intestines spooling out of teenage girls corpses. It's not hypocrisy to say that kinks are cool but guro's too fucking much.
Definitely has to do with the anime style. I've seen other Japanese games get lambasted for things that more Western or realistic are praised for which is pretty sad to see
There's a pretty blatant current in modern online social spaces where Japanese media is seen as particularly objectifying and exploitative, meanwhile american media can do the exact same thing and get celebrated by the same people who condemn anime fan service. And they're literally willing to put it into words for you, I remember a non-zero number of popular posts around the release of the latest Baldur's gate that were openly saying "this is cool and good, unlike something those degenerate Japanese would make"
Combine that with this games (In my opinion *extremely* blatant based on how the expressions are done) guro stuff, obviously people with unexamined prejudices and prudishness will pour out of the woodwork like a tsunami of termites.
Guro is *really* not my thing, it actually disgusts me and will haunt me for weeks of I stumble on it unexpectedly, but also like, there's nothing really wrong with it. It's weird gross art made for someone other than me.
These games look fun, even if I'm pretty sure the intestines were drawn with one hand, I'll be checking them out.
9:47 The weapon you're talking about has now made its return in this game in Ver 0.20 (Which includes Act II), released around 22 hours ago.

Why is this Demo not on Steam is "Beyond" me
They probably figured that paying the fee just to post a demo wasn't worth it.
They probably will once the is more "feature complete" and closer to launch. It's only on Ver 0.12 at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if they offer a demo on the steam page when the game launches like how it's set on the prequel.
Would the content be allowed on Steam? The death sprites are crazy
@@mctescotenacious5285 oh yeah the prequel of this is already on steam, at worst it'll be pushed to the adult only section
@@mctescotenacious5285 I toyed around with the demo not long after watching this, the death sprites are very gnarly (i love it) but I don't think they'll have an issue with posting it to steam when games Like Fear and Hunger are there too. At worst it'll get an "Adults Only" tag just like F&H.
Many elements and fan service might be not for everyone, but I feel like it's passionated project done by single person from gunplay to in-game detail. I did really enjoy the first one and I hope the developer continue to create the game in the direction he desires.
picked up THE CITADEL by mistake in a bundle from fanatical for dirt dirt cheap, had no idea it is as cool.

between this and mullet mad jack, i appreciate these demo videos. helps me keep up on games i wouldve never found out about otherwise, and recommend to my friends too.
One thing I've always wish the previous game had was a level creator. There's this level that you can finish using a mech, and I thought the way the level was made was weird until I realized this was supposed to be a city occupied by militia. That's when I realized this game has so much more it can give than it already has
Recently doing an exploration into the new Brutal Doom update and I cannot but agree that the new behaviour of pressing reload on a full gun makes him check the chamber or pull the bolt or something, I'm really enjoying.
Takes me back to the scene in Aliens where Ripley is going down the elevator into the atmo-processing complex and she's checking all her weapons.
The the elevator opens up and she's ready to do some deadly deeds, I think I've always almost unconsciously emulated that scene lol
Litdoom also has this mechanic
say no more, you got me at 15:00
yoo, i never expect to see you review this one.
the Gunplay is spectacular since the presequel of its game. this enemy's sprites is getting better and yet there are couple of different types of armor will be soon.
was looking forward to see this for full version, i hope this will be on Steam too.
Citadel was awsome.
Loved the soundtrack and am still searching for it.
Gameplay was fun too ofc.
The Citadel combines fluid, projectile based, combat with old school leveldesign, an awsome, 80s cyberpunk anime inspired, artstyle and a beautiful soundtrack into one, deliciously, gory package.
Well, I just spent a but playing the demo and it's a lot of fun. It bizarrely feels like an attempt at turning Marathon into a tactical shooter, and the reload system grew on me really fast. Tube magazines have never been made so mechanically fun.
Only reason I stopped was I got stuck at 1-4 lmao. Im looking forward to finishing it when I wake up.
This game is like someone saw that one FPS scene from ME!ME!ME! and said hell yes
Hey, cool video, thanks for giving us something new, never heard of the original Citadel or this one, hope you make more videos of obscure FPS like that, good coverage of details too.
Excellent news, I played through the first game twice (which is not something I often do). The atmosphere of the first part of the game is absolutely anxiogenic. Any shooter that can make using a flamethrower feel like commiting an actual war crime is good in my book. Also the FEAR influence is just perfect and I wish more games did it (can't wait for Selaco as well).
Finally, a biblically accurate lore

Man, I can't believe the dev used that overused sound from "Sound Ideas" and changed the pitch up at 0:42. Hearing that generic scream is so jarring. It's almost like using the Wilhelm Scream.
Images of my NOD soldiers spontaneously combusting while walking through a Tiberium field, immediately sprang to mind.
@@jakebiatch6909 Yeah, lol. Now imagine playing this game and hearing it every 2 seconds. I'd be permanently distracted by NOD soldiers dying.
Ultimately. This feels like "Rise of the Triad-x-Ghost in the Shell".
Which for me...is very interesting.
This game has a really weird vibe, it's very interesting, looks like a lost ps1 experimental game. I recently started playing Baroque (ps1 on my handheld) and it immediately reminded me of it. I already bought the first one some time ago but never got around to it, thanks for reminding me. Also seeing the rifle bullets land at the wall and fall down is such a nice touch for a sprite based game.
Yeah, the dev likes baroque. The weapon shown at 11:09 is called the "Angelic Rifle", and the character who gives it to you quotes the same line as the character who gives you the rifle in Baroque.

beyond citadel sounds like it would be an epic system shock mod/fan game
This is bizarre I didn't even know about this until today but last night booted up Citadel to play for a bit. Looking forward to this!!
I love The Citadel so much. Not only does it have amazing atmosphere but there are certain details in the game that aren't neccessary as but really adds to the feel like being able to play the game without your helmet on, hold your breath for steady aim, interact with spent bullet casings, leaning left and right, OPERATING A FUCKING MECH, etc.
Ultimate G-Man staples: 80's movie reference, Simpsons side cuts, and reverb farts XD

Looks intriguing, downloading the demo right now. I'd probably never find this one out by myself, thanks!
Hmmm, well I guess two games are now on my radar. Not sure how I missed the first one, so I appreciate that you took time to discuss the first game first.
The .44 Magnum Mega Class is literally the Security Officers Pistol from Marathon.
you can actully remove the helmet the character wears by pressing back space it removes all heads up display details so its a nice lil touch for a no hud challange run where checking if your weapon has ammo is more viable~
It's like this guy turned DOOM into an anime style FPS game.
the dev by themselves are pushing the medium forward, content of the game aside the mechanics are super well thought out and implemented and they have so much in the works on their twitter is an insane ammount of work and worthy of real praise
Frankly, I wish more shooters had the balls to be like Reciever. It's just strange to me that everyone seems to think "point and click" is the pinnacle of what the FPS can offer the user, and most of them spend as much time as possible trying to make that part of the experience take the least effort. Reciever has it's flaws, but it's able to build up a good tension and excitement simply because you can fuck it up. Pulling off a slick, flawless reload before taking down an attacking drone is something I remember far more vividly then kill x+1. Hell, I may dislike Hideous Destructor but I get the appeal: what if shooting was more complex than "you have functionally infinite ammo, go nuts."
It's too back it's anime as dicks, but that is the type of feature that could take up the slack.
because thats in tactical hardcore shooters and not normal shooters
@@StarchieHalo I tried search the "normal" tag for shooters on Steam, but came up with zero results.

I was actually expecting a review for Helldivers 2 from you fam. From first glances it seemed like like right up your alley. Chaotic, Warhammer 40k-esque and fun with friends. Nevertheless, still a good watch. Will check it out sometime.
I loved the first Citadel.
It felt like we're watching the beginnings of someone's efforts in creating a really good FPS, and it being a Japanese-created one (something that's pretty rare) and it being as functional as it is I enjoyed it to the finish.
The dev has a particular type of style with his sprites that I love, it's primarily cute/beautiful women, intricate mechanical designs, and a LOT of violence and pain. It's a fascinating tone that I loved. I'm hoping to see how much they've improved on their game design as development continues.

That's the only thing making me stay away from this game.
weak beta energy, equal rights equal fights baby
Honestly more first person games need to give you the ability to see your body/legs/feet when you look down, horny or not. I like the immersion over missing something on the ground directly below me. I have seen games also make it a toggle option as well so you can just turn it on or off, doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement either. I would go so far as to say people that do not like it are jealous because they do not see their feet when they look down.
The first game is still one of my favorite FPSes of all time. Absolutely hyped for the sequel. Thanks for covering the demo, and helping the dev get more exposure.
Nah, this and its prequel are completely guro fetish games and if anything, this game increased it more. Anyone who has been on Japanese art sites long enough can already tell especially that the demo is on Fanza which is known for NSFW content.
However, this doesn't mean that the games are bad, far from it and are pretty fun.
When he mentions the characters having "terrified" faces under their helmets, and then shows footage of what I can only describe as ahegao, I laughed out loud.

I mean, let's be honest, there's definitely a fetish involved. Hedon did the same thing but with orc dommy mommys. Ain't nothing wrong with that either.
Yeah, there's clearly some guro fetish going on here in particular. Dismemberment, sure, Soldier of Fortune and other violent games have that. Not many games have cute anime girls with multiple levels of face-crushed-in sprites.
I feel like in the first game, he was trying to keep it subtle, and it worked well enough that I didn't notice, and in this one he gave up since it clearly was not working.
I have been on Pixiv long enough that when I watched the review of the first game, I knew it was someone into guro straight away from my experiences being on the R18G section on that art website.
Let's just say that Mortal Kombat's violence is nothing compared to the very creative ways to say the least of guro artists...

Thanks to your recent review, I am now encouraged to buy the first game and give it a spin. I saw your previous review and it peeked my interest.
Enemy characyer designes look like they are some sort of a knock off versions of Warhammer 40k and Star Wars characters, they look incredible gotta give credit.
I was scrolling the demo page, and--holy shit, Hideous Destructor gets mentioned! That's a doom mod deep cut I didn't expect.
that pistol with the scope is strait out of Marathon.
It is! The dev loves marathon. He also snuck in the zeus fusion pistol as a hidden weapon, and the citadel's SMG is named after and uses the same ammo as the Marathon Infinite's flechette SMG.
What surprised me with the first game was the bloodcurdling screaming when enemies are on fire.
Now on Beyond's demo, I can hear them breathing barely alive.
Some of the trooper enemies can be durable enough to look almost downed but still trying to shoot me.
So far, so good.
5:29 that was a jump scare but a unexpected one
Once you learn what Guro is, a lot of anime and games become very uncomfortable
