I bought a couple of different wireless ones for convenience, and to see which I liked more, but for a standard wired controller that needed to be durable and responsive enough for the kinds of abuse the AC games would put it through, a simple Skullcandy controller with joystick extenders crazy glued in place was maybe one of the best pieces of $20 gaming hardware I've ever purchased. (And I bought a bunch of different controller anyway because I _hate_ the Sony PS3 controllers with a passion. The stupid domed joysticks should be a crime. Anyway, I bought a bunch of different ones to see which provided the best feel and responsiveness, and the wired controller from Skullcandy was my favorite, despite being among the cheapest. What I like about the 4th Gen AC, especially 4A, is the array of customization options, fantastic AC designs, and pure adrenaline from all the high-speed manoeuvres that you pull off. Playing the game twice just to get all parts for White Glint is totally worth it for me. Oh not to forget the sexy Aaliyah frame. 👌🏻
"[gen 1 was] focused on grounded slow combat" see, you think that, and then you realize that their walking acceleration is faster than the in space flying acceleration of most gundams.
I was maybe 15 when I played the Old King Mission, the way he gives you the numbers messed me up real good. It freaked me out so badly that I didn’t play it again for weeks. Arrr so innocent XD.
I actually tried FA as I wanted to try one of the older games before I got ac6 just so I could see if it would be a series I would enjoy. I have fallen in love with the series
something interesting on the destroy the craddle mission, on the JP version Old king is actually singing "Thinker", the ending theme of AC4, also people think Thinker is more like Sinker, Kota Hoshino added 1 or 2 more line to the song on the reprise version with reference to deep sea.
Loved 4A, primarily used a missile spam build as I really wasnt that good at moving in combat, though some missions I had to be creative with my AC build to beat. AC6 feels the best to control and play, but 4A is faster and has the awesome Arms Forts, cant wait to see what comes next from the franchise even though im still new to it
Video starts and the first thing I hear in the background? Someone is always moving on the surface. Beautiful. Actually met one of my closest friends through ACFA. We were waiting for 6 with bated breath, so Seraph and Thunder could fly again.
One peculiar thought that kept popping up while i was playing AC6 but while watching this video as well, was that many details, logos, enemies and even conversations reminded me of Ace Combat 5 and Zero. From the whole silent deadly mercenary theme and emblems to Rusty calling me buddy.
So far I’ve beaten ac6 all 3 times, ac 4, ac4a almost 5 times, ac1, and started ac project phantasma, ac5, and acvd. Of all of these, the game I fell in love with was ac4a, and I’m glad this under appreciated game is getting some love. Also, ac4, 4a, 5 and VD all came out on both ps3 and xbox360, not just ps3
Most people think they love this game because of speed. But indeed it is control. There is no ohter ac game than the 4 series with such a high level of control (assuming you are using regular-b controls and reg 1.0.). This leads to the most fluid gameplay of all ac titles which gives you this insane sense of speed and control. With some practice you feel the ac as an extension of your own body. No other ac title gives you this feeling. And the key is: analog booster control. This is what enables smoth and instant transition between all states of movement. They dropped this in ac5 and ac6 didnt bring it back. Mode switching between walking an boosting as well as having a separate button to ascend and not beeing able to cutof the boosters instantly while boosting or flying makes the gameplay stagnant and awkward. We need back analog booster control instead of mode switching.
I jumped into 6 after not having played an Armored Core since Master of Arena. Love 6. It’s like AC meets Zone of the Enders. I’ve been reacquainting myself with my PS3, and FA looks like a really great game to add to the collection! Thanks for the video. Solid editing. Great narration!
God what a great story this game has. As someone who only knows of ACVI, is nice to see more of this world. Loved the use of the Signalis soundtrack, you are a man of culture for sure
I love oldking, he was like a loner in a corrupted world, rampaging with chaos and the man’s mind has gone decayed and delusional. Then he found us, the only one who truly wish to walk this vicious path with him. I truly feel it when old king died during the final mission and said farewell to us as a buddy of his, the man found a friend in us and we delivered to him a true ending that he wished to see. Also, fuck moral, money runs the world. The man offered me the highest bid for 100mil easy kills who can’t say no to that, gotta grind for those juicy parts
This video just showed me how many really unfair tricks I learned to beat the difficult missions. Motherwill - Go underneath it and it cant hurt you. Shoot grenade launchers from below at all the large guns and missile pods you can hit then fly up and laser sword the super huge guns on the top, done. Any land fort - Just fly right into it side and slice it 2-3 times with a sword. Dead. Same with those ORCA land forts with the laser blades. Fly into the spots on their back and one swipe with a laser sword. White Glint - There are little nooks at the base of the highway you can hide in and bait White Glint into. Once there he cant move around or avoid any AOE attacks. Grenade launcher and done. Big Box - Range. Use the longest radar lock on you can get and lob long range grenades at the big one, then finish up the smaller second guy in whatever fashion you want. Final fight - Stay in the long hallway you spawn in and wait for the dude to come for you. Double grenade launcher. Wait for him to enter the hallway and try to rush you. Open fire. He dies quickly. Then its a gangbeat on Maximilian. Ultimate build was a super low weight, high speed death machine. Two grenade launchers back weapons, and the machine gun arms. Drastically cuts down on overall weight to not even have arms or arm weapons and opens up a lot of other options for your build. Focus on accuracy and turn speed in your tuning. Key thing is making sure bullets land and you never struggle to keep the enemy in your sights. As for body parts I usually just went with White Glint mostly but I genuinely was never a fan of Glint's core piece. The wings look horrible with back weapons attached sadly. Except the 3rd story final mission. Thats just a pain in the ass.
Hey man the PvP is alive via emulation and the AC community discord (think its linked in the AC subreddit). I can't comment since I haven't played with those people, only a friend in 1v1, but theres youtube videos of people playing via the communtiy discord. Cool overview, surprised you didn't mention regulations though. 1.15 (also with infinite energy) and 1.2 for more speed if it wasn't enough for you already.
Armored Core For Answer is amazing, and yet it's only my fifth favorite Armored Core game. The fact that a game this good still gets trumped by four other games in the series is a testament to how high this series's highs get. Last Raven was my favorite entry until Fires of Rubicon came out. Also, no, the AC grip is a meme. No one seriously played like that.
AC 4A is just awesom from the sheer speed. Its really makes each Rival NEXT fight feel like a battle of instinct and reflexes. Also its just super fun fighting at these speeds.
Give yourself the true ac4a joy and make a lightweight single blade build. Stabilize for forward and right leaning (don't use add-on boosters) and put the laser blade eltanin in your left hand. You'll thank me later. And hello too everyone seeing this who I might have fought years ago on 360 ranked matches.
ACs: Goblin King & Head Hunter Played ranked religiously, if you were one of the strong pilots kind enough to trade emblems after I beat you to have it as a kill stamp on my head hunter GG I still have the emblems on my old 360 and thanks again for helping complete my theme. 👍
I loved AC4A. I even have a hard copy on my shelves! It was a a branch off from regular AC in some of the best ways. Also the White glint is the coolest mech in any AC game and genuinely one of the best fights in the series. That battle was HARD
White glint my beloved, alongside nine ball seraph and now steel haze ortus they are just the peak AC designs for me. Also something not mentioned/kinda touched on and just shows how deranged Old King is. During the mission to take down the cradles not only does he joyfully announce how many millions you've killed with each cradle while you are in between their destruction he will gleefully hum a tune (which iirc is one of the garage themes but don't quote me on that), showing that unlike some missions where the destruction is an unfortunate side effect....he is getting an absolute kick out of this and why the handlers are so disgusted with you.
Oh wow, genuinely amazing video. This video made me envy whoever played this game at it’s time. Sub-Scribed! You’ve also convinced me to try 4 and 4A as i’m craving more after AC6
I didn't realize until now that i am a Mecha Fan... played AC1 on a Demo disk years ago, but only really got into it recently with my "legal copy" program. and then AC6 came out, finished that sucker right up, and once Slow Modern FPS games were not doing it for me... i went to Titanfall 2.
I think theu actually had shoulder mounted boosters that sllowed you to hover like the quad legs do now. Had shoulder mounted flares to distract missiles. Cores had orbital weapons and some cores had hanger storage for backup weapons when your main guns ran out of ammo. You could go from being overweigdrowith grenade launchers to dropping them and speeding around with machine guns.
Ac6 is cool n all. But nothing will beat ACFA for me. The speed, the batshit insane combat. I cant and never will have enough of it. I will miss its speed though.
ACFA was my first armored core title. I rebound my controls in AC6 to better match those old days on my Xbox 360. It's worth everyone's time. Play all the endings.
See, as a veteran AC player, I was thrown off by controlling four weapons at oce in AC6. But going back and playing this after so many years, it's almost too fast for me now.
Machine gun build with 03-AALIYAH carried me so hard in both AC4 and 4A before I started playing around with other stuff, overall its very fun and I still gotta get into the fifth generation, even if its multiplayer based, Armored Core is so underappreciated.
I still remember beating the 5 v 2 match at the end. boy that shit took hours. if u go for fast strats the ammo becomes a problem if u go for endurance strats u get overwelmed by 3-4 AC's. Those were some really nice missions compared to later instalments.
i actually prefer acfa's map borders to ac6 because 1) they don't change mid mission and 2) they kill npcs too, so you don't get bullshit like the helicopter flying outside of the arena
The only time it really annoyed me was the drones on the caravan and the flying arms forts. I think those didn't die oob and caused a few failures because I was too aggressive
Thinking about it AC franchise should really delve into a multiplayer RPG world with factions. There’s always this notion of who controls what, what they’re losing/gaining and how you can as a merc can shape it but it’s never really gone into as a community. Like it’d be so cool to get a mission and it’s to take out an actual player because whomever deems them a threat to their bottom line. I’d suggest it should function as “employee” status (freelancer, x corporate, x government), x organization) along side with giving you a handler (npc or a player)
Gen 3 and Gen 4 are my favorite AC games with Gen 5 and Gen 6 coming pretty close. I'm especially a huge ass fan of White Glint, my favorite Shoji Kawamori mecha design btw.
A part of me hopes they bring back some of the shenanigans from AC 4 and For Answer in future AC games, at least partially. Imagine having to fight a foe that is *actually* as fast as a gen-4 AC in your gen-6.
What I like is, that Armored Core seemingly stayed constant with stat relations over the years. Like, instead of nerfing down normal ACs and MTs in IV and 4A, they justed ramped up the stats of Nexts higher, so you can really see the difference in numbers
With AC4's ending I got the impression that you end up ether comatose or similarly invalid. Your handler taking you away and looking after you. Over time your handler learns to pilot taking jobs to support you with your now expensive care needs. She signs up with Line Ark and pilots White Glint in FA. This adds tragedy to her death at your hands in FA as that not only leaves Line Ark defenseless but also cutting off the funds AC4's protag needs in their retirement.

I still have my painted and weathered White Glint model kit with the VOB attachment on it. It's so old it's and it's been moved around a lot so it's not in the best shape but its the best build i've ever done
That sounds awesome, I just barely got my hands on a pre order of a reissue
@@MalcadorGaming Enjoy my friend!! It means a whole lot more when you're familiar w the AC!!
Pure unadulterated speed, love ACfa
I actually miss the speed ngl, I hope they go back to something closer
In regards to your take on Swarms of Red Eyes mission, the point of the mission being at night is to make those self-destruct weapons much easier to spot. Have fun spotting them in broad daylight where the red can blend in with the bright yellow sunlight.
The other point of it being at night is to showcase how many there really were - dying the sea in front of you a bright red from their lights.
First GEN Armored Core OST are my game man. Send the same chills up my spine that the PS1 intro does.
"PC is the only way to play this game today"
Me with the actually several PS3s I bought to play AC4/ACV, Demon's Souls, and MGS Legacy: oh really?
Honestly I should have recorded it to reasonable way for most people to affordably play it. As much as I love old hardware ain't no way I buying a whole ps3 lmao
@@MalcadorGamingI mean, it's been a minute since i bought one, but the last PS3 I bought from GameStop was like, $150. You telling me the hardware to run this on a PC cost less than that?
@@MalcadorGaming your loss, ps3 fucks
@@RamadaArtist almost certainly not, but in order to play it on PS3 you'd need to buy the console, a functioning controller (which is getting harder), and shell out another $100+ just for the game because prices for them skyrocketed after ACVI was announced. :(
@@DefiantYeast0426 "because prices for them skyrocketed after ACVI was announced"
Wait really? Lol, I don't think I've ever paid more than like, $20 for any single one of the AC games I own other than AC6.
And yeah I'll admit, getting functioning hardware nowadays for PS3 is probably a lot more difficult than when I was putting my collection together around 2017-18.
Controllers were not bad though. I'd never play PS3 on the original controllers anyway, but I suppose the aftermarket... er, market, has probably dried up also.)
I playetd For Answer in 2010/2011, i was 10 years old max. When AC6 was announced so many memories from this old game came back, For Answer is STILL installed on my OG fat PS3 too. When i have the time to actually play it, i will.
Nice video dude, congrats on your 1k subs
>Start killing the Cradles
"Ah, yes. I have become the silliest terrorist in history."
It could be worse... not by much but still
Also you’ve earned my sub. Went out of my way to figure out the emulation steps through a channel called Inveigh, props to him! NEW LYNX DROPPING IN
I'm glad you figured it out! It's quite easy and totally worth it
I have always loved the Spirit of Motherwill fight. Blasting in with the V.O.B. then just letting loose. Nothing else has ever been so satisfying.
Spirit of motherwill is easily one of my favorite fights now. I actually think it's even better than the strider in ac 6
The mentality of an armored core pilot is somewhere between fighter jet pilot and infantry man.
That's a fair way to put it
"[gen 1 was] focused on grounded slow combat" see, you think that, and then you realize that their walking acceleration is faster than the in space flying acceleration of most gundams.
4A was so good. Even the graphics were ahead of the time. Its just amazing.
Interesting, that would make sense
4Answer is my TOP 1 Armored Core game. Glad that ma boi is getting proper recognition.
Loved 4A, primarily used a missile spam build as I really wasnt that good at moving in combat, though some missions I had to be creative with my AC build to beat. AC6 feels the best to control and play, but 4A is faster and has the awesome Arms Forts, cant wait to see what comes next from the franchise even though im still new to it
I wish I did more things with missles, and yea 6 definitely feels the best. I think ideally for me a mix of 6s controls and fa speed would be perfect
This Game rocks. I do wish they give us AC7 in the near future, or some dlc for AC6. The lore is very deep in this series!!
id be surprised if we dont get an ac7 or rerelease of the old games, we already know for 6 we are getting more parts at the very least
Hell, it is said that every game is set in one universe!!!
@therandomlaniusedward2140 huh? No, almost every gen is it's own continuity, besides 4 and 5 ☹️
i beat ac4 right after i finished the 3rd ending of 6 then beat the 2 extra endings for 4A and man PEAK GAMING IMO
Honestly it's a good pipeline to play the series
16:22 Now, this is peak
Wow, 17:56 is an upgrade in graphics
Video starts and the first thing I hear in the background? Someone is always moving on the surface. Beautiful.
Actually met one of my closest friends through ACFA. We were waiting for 6 with bated breath, so Seraph and Thunder could fly again.
What I like most about 4a was the balance. When in a head to head match virtually, every weapon is peak. The effective combinations are massive.
One peculiar thought that kept popping up while i was playing AC6 but while watching this video as well,
was that many details, logos, enemies and even conversations reminded me of Ace Combat 5 and Zero.
From the whole silent deadly mercenary theme and emblems to Rusty calling me buddy.
Still yet to see that more BlueSechi edits with Armored Core garage
Doing it with ACVD garage sounds like a good idea
Trying to find a copy of this game thats not over 100 dollars is a fuckin challenge
Sailing the seas is the only true way
So far I’ve beaten ac6 all 3 times, ac 4, ac4a almost 5 times, ac1, and started ac project phantasma, ac5, and acvd. Of all of these, the game I fell in love with was ac4a, and I’m glad this under appreciated game is getting some love. Also, ac4, 4a, 5 and VD all came out on both ps3 and xbox360, not just ps3
The Blue Archive bit threw me off guard ngl. I liked it though lmao
I used to play a ton in hs, then recently found and loved the edits lol
Great review! Your channel is super underrated!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed
All I want for christmas is to have FA and VD Remastered or available digitally on PS4/5 with online capabilities.
Vd remaster would be so amazing
I liked him too, I just wish we got maybe a mission or two more with him to flush him out more
What I want, is a movie... an entire freaking movie from Armored core in their 4th gen intro's style.
id love it in the style, defintely a hard story to tell outside of a game tho
I managed to get s rank on the last mission for the true ending. By god I have no idea how I did it. I think I did it with blades only.
I commend you, I refuse to attempt that lol
Amazing video bro!!! I love AC6 and I am hungry for more Armored Core!!!!
I'm glad you liked this and ac!
I love the use of the Halo 3 believe track
Hey man the PvP is alive via emulation and the AC community discord (think its linked in the AC subreddit). I can't comment since I haven't played with those people, only a friend in 1v1, but theres youtube videos of people playing via the communtiy discord.
Cool overview, surprised you didn't mention regulations though. 1.15 (also with infinite energy) and 1.2 for more speed if it wasn't enough for you already.
I honestly didn't discover it for a while and was stuck and the hardest one lol, also yea I actually have been doing pvp recently
Shhhhh allow me to spread ac grip propaganda
I like your jab at Bungie. Knowing the scene aswell, so the meme is pretty accurate.
I would love to see a remake of 4 & FA together. I busted my butt getting SS in FA and I'd do it again.
I think I did do that build early on but I can't remember. I ended up without even realizing it just loving dual wield smg builds and stuck with it
You can always play FA with some old 360 players on rpcs3.
ACs: Goblin King & Head Hunter
Played ranked religiously, if you were one of the strong pilots kind enough to trade emblems after I beat you to have it as a kill stamp on my head hunter GG I still have the emblems on my old 360 and thanks again for helping complete my theme.
I’m not certain but I think he’s humming “Remember”
In the English dub, I can't figure out what he's humming, probably nothing, but on the Japanese Dub, he's actually singing "Thinker (AC4)"
Oh wow, genuinely amazing video. This video made me envy whoever played this game at it’s time. Sub-Scribed! You’ve also convinced me to try 4 and 4A as i’m craving more after AC6
thanks for the nice comments! im glad youre getting to try 4 and 4A they are totally worth the very little effort it takes to getting them to work
I didn't realize until now that i am a Mecha Fan...
played AC1 on a Demo disk years ago, but only really got into it recently with my "legal copy" program.
and then AC6 came out, finished that sucker right up, and once Slow Modern FPS games were not doing it for me... i went to Titanfall 2.
Hopefully we get titanfall 3 soon, 2 is waaay too good to abandon the franchise
Honestly even though I played the game ages ago I felt the same. It's not a bad thing it just takes adjustment
I saw the whole video and it did not need to be a fucking hour long. It did entertain me but man... What a drag
Wish they would put all of them on the PlayStation store.
they really need to rerelease them
i actually prefer acfa's map borders to ac6 because 1) they don't change mid mission and 2) they kill npcs too, so you don't get bullshit like the helicopter flying outside of the arena
AC5 says hello

Armored Core For Answer made you feel like a god! The sheer destructive power you had was a big change compared to the previous games.
Ac 4a was my first AC game I got it as a kid for $5 outta Walmarts discount bin I don't understand how I beat it as a kid
I don't get how I beat it when younger either. Like I'm convinced I must have imagined me beating it
Gen 3 and Gen 4 are my favorite AC games with Gen 5 and Gen 6 coming pretty close. I'm especially a huge ass fan of White Glint, my favorite Shoji Kawamori mecha design btw.
As an old AC vet since childhood its wonderful to see people dive into this series so deeply.
4d movement is technically correct, since your moving through time as well
A part of me hopes they bring back some of the shenanigans from AC 4 and For Answer in future AC games, at least partially.
Speaking of fromsoft and mecha they need to remake chrome hounds
With AC4's ending I got the impression that you end up ether comatose or similarly invalid. Your handler taking you away and looking after you.
Over time your handler learns to pilot taking jobs to support you with your now expensive care needs. She signs up with Line Ark and pilots White Glint in FA. This adds tragedy to her death at your hands in FA as that not only leaves Line Ark defenseless but also cutting off the funds AC4's protag needs in their retirement.
I'd love that as a plot point but unfortunately it's actually anatolias mercenary. It was a story told in the jp version as well as ac visual works
@@MalcadorGaming What a shame. So their an other getting on in years ace, trope.
