This sounds good. Haven't had spaghetti in a while. Roommate will be on vacation so it might give me some time to cook. Can't wait for the vintage recipes!
My secret ingredient to most tomato based sauces is anchovy paste...adds a umami dimension to the flavor...if you get a chance, try it...I find it amazing 🍝
My friend, I agree 100%, & if you can't find the paste, buy a jar of them, they will dissolve in the heat of the skillet & give that same Umatilla richness, very nice tip

I made the Capsicum Sandwich it turned out great. I wasn't a fan of Capsicum but now I am. Thanks for this receipe as well Dave. Will try it soon. It is lock down here in certain areas and second wave has happened after 1 year. Covid 19 variant B1617 came here from India and rest is history but we are managing it well. Stay safe my friend. Your recipes will keep me going. 😋
Hey there. So glad you enjoyed the sandwich. I always enjoy it too. I know. The second wave is really bad. I was lucky enough to get my shot the other day. Keep cooking and stay safe. 😃🧑🏼🍳
My friend, buy Melania liquid anti-acid & tablespoon after eating, works right away & last for hours, better than chewable tums or Rolaid's, I use it, hope that helps

Hello Dave! 🙂 - Did you oil the pasta after they were done cooking? - Those jars of Classico sauce are pretty useful & pretty good too. I use them once in a while. Easier & faster than homemade. - Those are pretty big servings! 😁 I used to eat big ones like that in the past all the time. Starting 2021, my body told me to change a bit or else! So I reduced at least to half that now & feel much better. It is so enjoyable to eat though when you have nice meals! ( from Feb - now = lost 16 lbs ) 😁 - Thank you once again for making a side series about old times cooking just for us. I appreciate it! 😊 Have a great week! 🌞 PS: Did you know that many sites like : Etsy, Ebay, Amazon, etc have these Watkins cooking books? Hey Serge. Yes, I did. I just forgot to show it. I also added olive oil to the water. They are pretty good serving. I have to watch myself often too in terms of that. You are so welcome and I'm looking forward to the series. I just have to get it organized and started. I have heard that about Amazon. There is just something about handling a book that has physically been through that era. Sound a bit weird, I guess. I will look for a copy in Amazon, however. At any rate, stay safe and well my friend. 😃😃
Dave my friend, nice recipe, I like to mix 50-50 sweet to hot Italian sausage, if I use the links, I live the casing on like you, here they also sell Italian sausage that is ground up like ground pork or beef, depends on your recipe or mood, & yes the grand daughters will eat this with salad & garlic bread on the side, they are such good, healthy eaters & they are not overweight. btw, the vintage cookbooks are great, I like the older, simpler things pal
Hey there Steve. Yes, I love that idea. I would love to make my own sausages. If I had my way, I would have a real meat factory going on here. LOL. Yes, the girls sound like really good eaters. Love the sound of garlic bread. I should have made it. Yes, they cookbooks are so great. I can hardly wait to get started with them. Anyway, stay safe and hope you are well, Steve.
I make this when I need a pasta fix. I like the hot sausage. Some of those Depression recipes were great. I think there's an older lady on YT that makes them. 40's weren't really the Depression but people were still making them then. Say hi to the doogies.
Hi Carole. Yes, I love the spaghetti. Oh, you mean Clare - I'm sure that was her name but not sure about the spelling. She made a lot of depression recipes. Dear old Clare passed away, but her recipes will live on. I will have to mention her in the series. The doggies say hi back. Stay well and safe, Carole. 😃😄🐶
Italian Sausages are strange things to get here in the UK. The nearst I have seen is "Italian Style" sausage which taste no different to normal sausage. I keep threatening to make up some but without the casing cos most recipes I have seen take it out of the skin so I wasn't going to bother putting it into skins :-). Sure I can find an alternative and like Becky below you have given me some inspiration for the evenings meal. Thank you.
