I spent 5 years working out of Hurghada mostly, guided quite a few liveaboards, I'd recommend them. However I think they are best enjoyed if you have a degree of experience and there used to be and probably still is a restriction on novices for some dive sites like the Brothers.Handy to have a nitrox cert. If you want sharks, you want to go south, for wrecks, some good ones south but generally northern safaris for that. Plenty of turtles, eagle rays, dolphins, both bottlenose and spinner and others if you're very lucky. Sharks typically re Scalloped Hammerhead, Grey reef, Whitetip Reef, Oceanic Whitetip, Thresher,Silver and Tiger. The list of what you can see is pretty endless!

Hi Mark, do you think it is safe to go diving in the Red Sea in Egypt (Dahab, Hurghada) in the next few months, given the current Red Sea conflict? I’m planning a dive trip to go there soon but I want to make sure it’s safe for tourists before making any concrete plans.

Would Hurghada be safe diving for a diver who is new? I certified in May 2024.

There is plenty of diving around Hurghada for new divers. It's better when you can dive deeper and explore the shipwrecks. Sharm is usually more popular with new divers because of the shallow reefs and Ras Mohammed. But you'll still have a great time in Hurgada
