Thank you! I agree, the beacon is an excellent idea. I am working on my instructor certification now and plan on getting the same beacon. I believe it’s made by BAF Lights.
Loving the commentary! Youve got an excellent balance of being entertaining and educational! I’m planning on starting my tech journey in the next few months so I’d really appreciate any and all vids you may want to through out on the subject matter .. even if it’s not shot in the water. Thanks again for the upload!
I congratulate you on your diving in the Oriskany, only with technical diving can you enjoy that dive. I visited it in 2017 and was able to do 12 dives there and I was even more eager to visit it again, thanks to your video all my memories of those dives came back.
That’s awesome and thank you for watching it!! You are so correct, diving it as a tech diver is the only way to dive the Oriskany. I dove it last year recreationally and the whole time I wished I was tech certified, that was probably the dive that convinced me to get my AN/DP certification.
Great video. Love the commentary on top of the video. I got my TDI Advanced Trimix Diver certification in 1998 - have fun on your continuing diving education and hope you get in to the world of mixed gases and technical diving. I trained, certified and dove in the Pacific Northwest. Waters in the 40's, "good" visibility was anything over 20' - all in full drysuits, 100lb. wings, stainless backplates with home-made harnesses. Twin LP steel 120's (beasts), dual cross over manifolds, and ScubaPro regulators with a 10' main hose. We were in constant touch with the FL cave divers and the DIY guys in getting this all figured out. They all thought we were nuts for cold water diving. PS. I SO would have used the ascent reel and lift back to float up that anchor at 10:16....besides, your buddy should have a line and float for you to use (as you found out). And yes, I've done exactly what you've done - launched my ascent bag and reel and watched it go away only to have to scrum over to my buddy and politely ask if I can borrow his ascent line for the multi-hour deco.
Thank you! And thank you for blazing the trail into what technical diving is today. I have been doing a lot of reading and the doing these deep dives in the 90’s must have been intense! I was so thinking of floating that anchor up but figured my instructor would not be too happy, lol. As for the Pacific NW, that’s where I grew up. Oregon specifically, I should go back up there and do some dives around there.
Congratulations on your certification. I'm retired Navy, and Oriskany was my first ship and made the last cruise on it and was part of the decommissioning crew. I got certified to celebrate my 55th birthday. I was present for the sinking. I want to get my tech certification so i can visit my work spaces on the O2 level and also berthing space and CIC
This channel has very good potential. The narration is so good and relaxing. Keep up the stuff! I have thalassophobia and keep watching those contents made me more aware and less scared of those wrecks. Maybe one day who knows i will do this first hand!😂
Appreciate the full videos, nice to see other follow tec divers in detail. A lot of potential as others say, keep it up. Jealous of your wrecks! From Aus
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing your journey and also being open about it. It would have been easy to cut out the runaway SMB, but I've had that happen during my technical training also, and it was refreshing to see a diver being honest about those issues that happen and a good lesson in not taking the risk of ascending (or in some cases, descending) to chase equipment. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you! Thats exactly why I wanted to leave it in there. There are so many videos where everything perfect, I thought it would be a good idea to leave the mistakes in there so I can learn from people’s comments and give people a chance to see that problems to come up.
Really enjoyed these vids! Great to see your tech training. It’s on my bucket list. I’m a sidemount diver and have completed full cave, but yet to do my AN/DP since Mexican caves are shallow enough to do full cave without it. My little sis, lives there in Pensacola and would love to do next step training there. I would really enjoy seeing some of your continued tech dives and experiences. Perhaps a little summary of what you learn from each dive… the debriefing post dives is my favorite part. Always so much to learn and discuss!
Oh, the Mexican caves would be so awesome to dive! My next step in cavern then cave. I plan on making a lot of technical diving videos and debrief at the end is a great idea!
Looks like a great dive. I'm just starting to get into scuba. Going to take my open water in a few months, but my end goal is tek diving and cave diving.
Great video. AN/DP is on my list for next year (hopefully). Took intro last fall and have been diving doubles as much as possible to build comfort in the water.
Awesome! Thats the best thing you can do until your class. Being comfortable in doubles before hand makes the class so much more enjoyable. If you like reading, Deco for Divers is an excellent book to read before hand too.
@TheDeco_Stop she was impressive, I remember feeling small standing on the deck. My dad was an FT. Their office was under the flight deck. There was a dent in the overhead. They told us kids it was from a hard landing. How true that was, who knows.
My next step is probably full trimix now that I’m full cave, deco, advanced nitrox to 150 for TDI and advanced wreck SSI. Can’t wait to hit this wreck!!!!
@@TheDeco_Stop Thanks man, I wasn't with him when he got in trouble, I've always wanted to go dive the place where he got hurt. Your video took me there and it was tough. Beautiful dive site though, thanks for filming it, stay safe out there.
It was interesting to look at your tapes with stop times and depths. I was taught a different way of doing it. I’m going to stick to how I was trained, obviously, but it’s interesting to see how other people are taught. I had Mel Clark do my training to 230’ and I hope to dive the Mighty O’ someday. See if I can spin that prop.
The videos from barry sheiling you mentions are they on youtube? cant find them. Really nice video. i took my OW certefication last weekend and am taking my AOW next weekend, but my big plans are to go for CCR tecnical diving both for the gas cost for deeper dives but the possibility if staying down longer without carrying like 6 tanks talk to me. Unfortually im not as blessed with good visibility, Here in the baltic see outside of stockholm sweden we can be happy if we see more than 4 meters during summer that is about 13 feet visibility maximum. but nice video cant wait for my next dive
I’ll have to see where he puts his videos, might just be on his Facebook page Below 130 Diving. CCR is my next stop for the same reasons, gas is expensive!
I think I'm the complete opposite :D , after reading some books i want to go from open water to re-breather tech ASAP ! , My country isn't well known for cave diving so ill probably have to travel to Florida to get certed and then come back to break some new ground . I like the longer videos ! but i don't know if that's everyone's cup of tea .
The longer videos are kind of hit or miss, some people like them and some won’t even click on the video if they see it’s over 10 minutes. Awesome, welcome to Pensacola! I dive with Niuhi Dive Charters, Captain Andy is an amazing captain and his boat is perfect. I have also gone out with H2O Below, bigger boat but also more people.
Yes! It is crazy expensive. Thats one main driving factor on why a lot of people (including me) are getting CCR certified. It cost me $250 to do a 25/25 mix.
CCR is still on the table, but I am still learning more about them. Initial cost was the main reason, the price of the CCR plus CCR course and tec is just high. I plan on saving for CCR though.
Have you considered going with a rebreather given helium prices? I can’t imagine the gas cost associated with taking a tri-mix class!!! Ouch!!! And drifting deco stops?!?!?! Work on your buoyancy control boys and girls!!! 😂
From my understanding TDI created helitrox as a gap filler for those wanting to eventually go trimix. The cert doesn’t add any additional depth but gives tech divers a chance to use helium up to 30%. 25/25 was the best mix for this dive, we could have done 30% helium but it didnt make enough difference to warrant the extra cost of the gas. 25% O2 kept us below our 1.4 for the depth and time. I hope I explained that correctly, still pretty new to all this.
@ Yup, all good, I didn’t intend to come off as an ass, I just get curious when I see non-standard things pop up from dive agencies, but it’s usually GUE that does that, so this was new to me :)

😂. Helitrox is the start of Trimix. It has a limit of 35% helium and a max depth of 150ft. It’s a quick add on for AN/DP and starts building on the knowledge of having helium in the mix.
@@TheDeco_Stop Oooh okay, so it's a limited blend of trimix, I see!
