- Young coconut is among the most popular fruits you can find in Thai Street Food. Young coconut, also known as ma-prao orn, is harvested directly from the tree before it has time to age and drop like the more mature white and brown husked coconuts. Inside is a refreshing juice and a soft flesh. We have to use spoon to scoop the flesh from the shell when we want to eat the flesh which sometime hard to do. The second tool (buffalo horn knife) is used to separate the flesh from the shell. By preparing coconut this way, we can eat the flesh easier even without using a spoon.

It's probably cause we so accustomed to western life style, letting machines and technology do everything for us. But a huge population of rich or spoiled citizens dont even know how to sharpen a knife to cut fruit, vegetables and meat. Here's another thing the western people use the most, microwave and microwave lunches and dinners from their local grocery stores.

So I'm Thai and I'd like to make recommendations for those who wanted to find this
You can find these kind of stores on any road in the southern and eastern part of Thailand where its close to seaside which means coconut farms nearby
Okay and in some markets you may come across this kind of coconut style on sale ; in this vid we've seen how they were removed from the husk and left with a shell, but in some places they left out just the white, soft parts of young coconuts with the juice still in there. These are usually sold around 30 baht(1$), all you gotta do is stab a straw in it and you can pretty much eat the whole thing and leaving just the straw
Also these taste best when refrigerated :3

Edit: When I do get some, though, I cut the coconut flesh into manageable pieces then mix it together with the coconut juice (I put it in the fridge to make it cold first) and add some milk powder and a little bit of sugar. I always get some during summers.

These coconuts are just like the ones in India straight from the trees! Whenever I got to see my grandparents in India, my grandpa take me to his coconut tree and gets on for both of us! He cuts it like this and we both drink the juice and eat the soft flesh stuff!

In the USA, we would likely only have access to coconuts through shipping, you can’t usually keep something like this fresh if it’s shipped long distances, so we only usually have the hard brown mature coconuts. I have seen the young ones before but they are definitely more rare
