This video kicked ass on so many levels. From the stellar advice, to the anecdotes with Nguyen, Shaw, Gonzales, Gant, and Norris, to the WTF just happened moment from 5:26-6:36. I think I'd most want to hang out with dancing suited Jonnie over normal Jonnie and quadruped singlet Jonnie. Hopefully he makes a reappearance down the road. Nicely done!
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THE UTTER MIND FUCK SCENE AT 5:23 IN THE COMMENTS?! AM I THE ONLY ONE SEEING THIS?! (i think this is the best video you have ever made btw)
hahaha thank you! I wonder if some skimmed through beyond it as people know to look for intro/outros. I did intentionally hide it so it'd pop up when not expecting it. And thank you for that last statement that means so much! I always want to keep upping the content. I defintely took my time on this one to say the least, by far the most hours I've done since maybe that 100k sub mcnugget vid.
CanditoTrainingHQ You definitely succeed, dude. You're the most talented and captivating fitness RUclipsr I know. It makes me glutes flex with excitement when I see a video of yours in my subscriptions.
johnny my dude, you are way ahead of your time. the good your doing surpasses just weightlifting and helping people with that. its your unique innovative presentation, your honesty, integrity and positivity...keep it up man!
Great information! I started doing sumo deadlifts because my conventional deadlifts didnt feel comfortable at all (was using a narrow stance) But a few days ago I tried a wider stance with the conventional and it felt GREAT. I improved my PR with 15kg by just doing that. (150kg) Even when I barely deadlifted in the last 3 months. I hated deadlifts, but after this week I love them and cant wait to get higher numbers! 200kg is my first goal!
Fantastic video Jonnie as always! I've recently found myself checking your channel on the daily for new videos, I just can't get enough of all this information coupled with your hilarious antics and godly glutes. Not only are you strong as fuck but a brilliant film maker. You're a true talent, srs. Also loving the gains I'm making on your 6 week program, I bought a shirt yesterday too. This video right here has made all that tax I'm going to have to pay on the delivery here in the UK worth it. Peace!
Your comment just made my day! Seriously I lose to be able to be in a position where I can do what I love in all aspects. I have a long way to go too so I fully expect to constantly take it up a level. Glad you're liking the program and I appreciate the support by getting the CT shirt! And for taking the sacrificial hit by the good ole tax laws lol.
Jonnie you definitely have the most informative and one of the best produced channels out there. Because you seem to put so much effort into making your videos the best they can be, I feel like I have to mention an issue I always have with them: When you're talking about something and you have an image up with text on it it's confusing as hell. The images are always useful but it's kind of annoying to have to pause the video mid-narration to read the text. Narrating the images would definitely make the videos way easier to watch IMO. On another note, this is exactly the video I needed to see as I'm trying to fix up my deadlift. Thanks!
Lamar Grant has a scoliosis, which generally causes imbalances in the Psoas muscles. He probably needed more glute activation in the deadlift to take some of the load off his lower back. It can also cause one knee to be more varus so the glutes will activate coordinately.
There may or may not be a message in the video itself that explicitly explains exactly what's going on. This one isnt just randomness but an actual metaphor/symbol/whatever other literary term that sounds cool.
Thanks. I'm new to deadlifting. Really helped. Been trying to find a stance cause I've tried a few and it's a distraction trying to switch between stances. You want it to be all muscle memory. So I'm just going to reset and start over.
Type in Paul Anderson deadlift at 50 years old. That is the form i use for my deadlift. After a decade of pain doing the lift. I finally found my form, i was stubborn not to change. Point is...keep the principles of deadlift of course, but every stance and form will be dofferent from everyone else.
I'm an elite level lifter as is and I still found this video helpful. Plus I never really thought you had much of a sense of humor until today. I laughed pretty hard. well played candito.
Knew Lamar Gant's name would pop up after you started showing example videos. Still blows my mind when I watch the vid of him pulling 634 @123lbs...more than 5 times his god-damn bodyweight!
Wow, how doing a snatch-grip deadlift would help determine correct stance for you is amazing. Never thought about it that way. A bunch of things just clicked for me. Thanks, Eyebrow Lord!
johnnie johnnie johnnie... how can i triple like a video. when ever i am crazy impressed with your content i keep finding myself scrolling down to like the video, FORGETTING i ALREADY liked it
Jonnie this is probably the most epic video editing I've ever seen. Your information is of the highest quality (speaking of compound lifts). This channel is by far the most entertaining but also full of useful info. You are my favorite youtuber!
Great video Jonnie and thanks for the inclusion. It’s an honor to be in the same video as those deadlift legends. A lot of my form changes including the narrow stance had to do with Paul’s technique after I saw him pull a new WR at RUM last year. The transition was easier for me after pulling with olys because they made it more natural to go narrow and open up my hips so when I went back to flats, that pathway was already ingrained. An added benefit I figured out was that they made the lockout more difficult, so when I put flats back on I was able to pull through much easier with the added benefit of more speed off the ground because of the utilization of the narrower stance. Also, 5:23 literally raped my mind, but was it really rape if I enjoyed it? Now pls unblock me on Instagram pls.
Shouts out to my homie Klokov! The wait was worth it, this video was 10/10 status lmao and that instrumental for the examples was fire too, you think I can get source maybe?
Great video as always, J. I think that a slightly wider grip encourages lat activation and beats out the theoretically most efficient grip width. Another plus is that you can grip the knurling entirely.
Lamar Gant is an incredible lifter who is definitely a great motivator for me. It’s crazy how he managed to pull such an insane amount in relation to his bodyweight, while also having pretty severe scoliosis. He is a person who truly pushes human limitations.
Hey Jonnie! Ive learned more from you on lifting technique than anyone out there period. The squat vid you did about using a door frame to practice a straight bar path helped my squat go from fucking grim (260lb) to totally respectable (418lb) in a matter of a few months. You gave me great great advice about benching about not only bringing the scupula together (which I knew) but to bring everything down (it was like I was shrugging my shoulders up before I pressed). This has helped me actually feel my pecs work for the first time ever. I used to bench over 260lb just using my delts haha and I wondered how I couldnt get any more. Finally this has been good today, I actually have decent technique on the dead but Im looking to make small adjustments to take it up a notch and get upto a 600lb deadlift. Much love man and absolutely no homo ;) haha
Nice vid man, I'm learning more everyday. I'm small and started 10 months ago but thanks to you and others my dead lift is moving very quickly. Started with like 95 lbs and now working on 315 for reps on the heavy side. Haven't tried a 1 rep max in almost 2 months but I'm thinking I could do at least 365. I've only done conventional. I'm going to use this info while I experiment with some form changes to see if I can get things tighter and more efficient. Maybe one day I will have mighty man glutes like you dude.
Dammit Johnnie, I would've need this video a few months ago when I switched to conventional? Your comments were on point, highlighting issues I noticed myself and took me quite a while to correct.
I’m so glad I found this... I’m 6,3 and roll with a moderate stance. Its confutable for me and allows me to perform a full range of motion. I’ve come to the realisation there are dicks at the gym that will put you down to make them selves look good. An Acquaintance at the gym said my stance should be narrow. It wasn’t try narrow or advice to lift better, but I should be lifting narrow. Any way your video has highlighted he’s a noob jockey and there is nothing wrong with my stance. Its one of the biggest things I worry about is form.
I think I'll add something (coming from my own bank of knowledge). The wider and more pushed out your knees are, the closer your hips are to the bar (similar to the sumo deadlift). But, this also means your grip width will have to be wider. (A more horizontal torso). In my personal opinion, if your lower back is your weak point in the deadlift I'd say get your stance as narrow as possible and your grip as narrow as possible as this creates a more vertical torso which gives your lower back more leverage, and if your hamstrings/glutes are your weakpoint then it'd be advantageous to move your stance out more and push your knees out more (which gets your hips closer to the bar and thus increasing the leverage of your glutes and hammies). I'm sure candito will come in and correct me on something.
Damn Jonnie! Sometimes I wonder why you dont upload that frequently because I love your content, but when you do upload a vid I can tell why. Great Job man, I can see you put in tons of work into your videos! Keep it up, theyre funny asf!
Another great combo of solid information and humor! This shit is approaching Frank Yang level! And why barbell makers show no love to smaller lifters. I wish they made the knurling closer together.
Awesome video Jonnie. I really like how you were able to break down the case for a narrow stance and get to the bottom of why you do it. Srs though very good quality!
All good advice! (Dat azz.) One thing I'd add: if you like your deadlifts more back-and-hamstring dominant but also find yourself more comfortable with a slightly wider stance, instead of setting your hands out way father than they need to be you might try pulling with a *very narrow* Coan-style sumo stance. So drop your arms straight down to the bar, then set your ankles just outside wherever your hands land (instead of closer out by the plates, where they would be in a traditional sumo) . Despite this technically being a sumo pull, the mechanics feel a hell of a lot more like a conventional one.
Thoroughly enjoyed it even if i didn't learn anything new( not meant in a bad way) I thought you informed people in a very educated and intelligent way I personally run through the same motions kind of in determining feet placement but i start with a neutral arm positioning aka straight down from the shoulder socket to the bar, always teach to use a double overhand grip then I have myself or clients adjust knee and foot placement inside or outside of the knee depending upon hip width size(knees always in contact with the arms at the starting point,I find adjusting to hip size and natural rising arcs of the knee and hips assists greatly in the ability to get a good setup behind the bar for an explosive setup. It would be awesome to show you and run through some stuff bounce ideas back and forth etc...
Im an autistic lifter I have aspergers, this has an ocd linear obsession over strength lifts ecspecialy the deadlift I only offer my savant knowledge best lifts have been all at 6 reps my brain didn't used to let me do any less deadlift(conventional double overhand) 254kgx6,conventional squat 270kgx6, bench 160kgx6( ive always had issue with benching really long arms and hand tremors) I have had to re adjust a lot recently due to 2 years of injury from 3 total slipped disks caused by complications from a knee surgery previously(done in mma)
This is awesome. You always put out a vid just when I need it most, lol. Thoughts on doing sumos as an accessory deadlift exercise on your 6 week program?
That is a great option, I suggest personally keeping the sumo stance pretty much as narrow as you can so that it still transfers unlike an ultra wide sumo likely would to conventional.
CanditoTrainingHQ Thanks a lot man! I really appreciate it. My friend and I have both put on over 300lbs on our total using your 6 week program. We love it. We recommend it to everyone who asks us how we are getting so strong.
"Two lifeless lumps of man meat"--Candito! Love your videos, man: excellent lifting insight, that innocent Bambi face, yet all that meta-meaning and pun play. Thank you.
I felt like I took a trip to a strange place, maybe the Black Lodge or that crazy game show in Requiem For a Dream at 5:59...well done, sir. Oh yeah, great and useful info too!
great video you always provide great information along with spreading many lols, people who don't take the extra curriculars as a joke probably have a poor sense of humor. keep it up man thanks again for teaching us something new with every video!
Good Morning to the US from Spain! Again an incredible strong content and presentation!💪+📹 Congratulations & Thanks to your efforts Jonnie👏👍 Very much appreciated, keep ongoing please. Please keep us updated about the progress of your father. I'm almost in his age (55) and pushing hard on my PR's😉, Adam💪💯%
Great video Jonnie! Video suggestion: Deadlift starting positon how to transfer the most power to the bar ( where should the presser be etc). Thank you :-)
I am definitely stronger with pushing from the inside of my feet, but I feel it would be unwise to ignore trying to develop strength on the outside as I'm still developing as a lifter and as a young adult. I've majorly improved my general balance and developed my quads because I worked hard on this weak point for a long time.
The wait was completely worth it.
An EXTREMELY useful video plus... well, you know.
I'm gonna play it off like I'm not that pumped to read this. Just gonna play it cool like I aint need no online validation.
CanditoTrainingHQ Everyone enjoys a little validation of their ASSets.
This video gets so next level, starting from around 5:40
I tried to take it up a notch there.
WTF lol
CanditoTrainingHQ Went all out David Lynch there... yes!
Started the video > scrolled to comments > clicked on timestamp > completely lost context on the video
Whens the next collab with headhunterz?
This video kicked ass on so many levels. From the stellar advice, to the anecdotes with Nguyen, Shaw, Gonzales, Gant, and Norris, to the WTF just happened moment from 5:26-6:36. JC has now established himself as the David Lynch of powerlifting
Kristoffer Kjær That's exactly what I said!!!
I watched this on lsd, and now I have PTSD. can you make a video on how to deadlift with PTSD ?
+Socks McCox You're a braver soul than I, I would've closed the video at 3:20
This was actually very informative. Good video Jonnie.
Lol jonnie I could care less if you can deadlift 650, can you do 12 quarter rep pull ups with a 40 pound back pack????? Didn't think so
Ooooo
I hope this is sarcasm lol
haha lel seems to be a fake account
CanditoTrainingHQ pls respawnd
eh
Best video, and most informative channel out there. Mind blown at 5:30.
Thank you! That's exactly my goal, to bring both some creativity but most importantly useful information.
CanditoTrainingHQ You definitely succeed, dude. You're the most talented and captivating fitness RUclipsr I know. It makes me glutes flex with excitement when I see a video of yours in my subscriptions.
Jonnie you need to stop watching Frank Yang videos
I'll always mire Mr. Yang's work. One day I want him to do a pl meet with me.
CanditoTrainingHQ
Naked, of course
CanditoTrainingHQ
As long as you won't start training with BBCs I'm ok with that.
CanditoTrainingHQ he might have a higher vertical than you and that might be it lol
Frank Yang wishes he was actually creative like Jonnie.
johnny my dude, you are way ahead of your time. the good your doing surpasses just weightlifting and helping people with that. its your unique innovative presentation, your honesty, integrity and positivity...keep it up man!

It's rare that you get a channel that gives out good information and is actually funny, well done Jonnie
That fucking trippy 6 minute scene! Lmao love it
Dude you just instantly improved my Deadlift with this video. I'm now smashing 160 kilograms like it's nothing.
Candito.. you are a legend.
Jonnie you definitely have the most informative and one of the best produced channels out there. Anton Bergman man why u always on all my comments, please go way
i feel like we need some barbeque sauce for those slabs of meat
Goddammit, Jonnie, you did it again...
Ayyy I try. And damn thats a creepy profile pic.
CanditoTrainingHQ It better be creepy...it's from a creepypasta :D Loving your trolly shit, it's so funny...and you know, good advice too, whatever :D
***** Yeah, jeff the killer-google it
Thanks. I'm new to deadlifting. Really helped. Been trying to find a stance cause I've tried a few and it's a distraction trying to switch between stances. You want it to be all muscle memory. So I'm just going to reset and start over.
This video is totally worth the wait.
Yeeeeah thank you! It was a lot of work to get it right for one vid I'll just say.
I this powerlifting is boring but I freaking love your channel, you're starting to bring me around to it
You're the David Lynch of powerlifting videos. Brilliant.
The best is to see Jonnie up his cheeky hq game every video. Awesome vid brah
Hey Candito, Its time for an instructional DVD series man. Include some Oly lifts and you have a complete winner.
Type in Paul Anderson deadlift at 50 years old. That is the form i use for my deadlift. After a decade of pain doing the lift. I finally found my form, i was stubborn not to change. Point is...keep the principles of deadlift of course, but every stance and form will be dofferent from everyone else.
Mindblown. That was awesome!
Some things can never be unseen...Scarred for life! Yet it was still one of the more informative lifting video out there lol. Keep up the good work!
I'm an elite level lifter as is and I still found this video helpful. Plus I never really thought you had much of a sense of humor until today. I laughed pretty hard. well played candito.
Candito being candito again!
When I saw the video summary come up with a lot of time left in the video, I knew there was something weird coming my way lol.
johnnie johnnie johnnie... how can i triple like a video. when ever i am crazy impressed with your content i keep finding myself scrolling down to like the video, FORGETTING i ALREADY liked it
Jonnie this is probably the most epic video editing I've ever seen. Your information is of the highest quality (speaking of compound lifts). This channel is by far the most entertaining but also full of useful info. You are my favorite youtuber!

Your videos are starting to get more interesting... Like the new "style" good work!
Honestly this could not have come at a better time for me , thanks jonnie!
This is close to Tim and Eric levels of sketches. KEEP GOING, WE NEED TO GO DEEPER
Omar needs to catch up, you definitely became number 1 in entertainment and information.
That David Lynch style eastern egg is mind-blowing, Mr. Candito!
HAHA Goddamn Candito, that "Meaning" clip at 6:00 was hilarious! Probably one of my favorite videos you've done man, keep it up!
Never thought of or even heard of the elbow thing. I'm definitely gonna try that next time!
Great video as always
You are really stepping up your game with the recent videos! I Like it!
What an absolutely legendary video
Wow, that felt like a david lynch film. It was most unsettling when you got back into calmly and seriously explaining deadlift stance.
The bar keep getting higher! Keep it up!
the man!!! look at all that effort on this vid!!!! great stuff ditooo
PROGRAM UPDATES...
Awesome video again johnny.
Great video Candito. i am on week 4 of your program and you have been a huge help to me
Can never stop laughing and self reflecting during your videos, keep it up man !
jonnie, your camera quality is amazing!

Hey Jonnie thanks for these tips! I set a PR on my deadlift (added 25lbs) just keeping my arms in tight and narrowing my stance
wtf best video ever - point blank - hands down - nuff said - period .
blurring the line between reality and youtube fitness
That was perfect. Awesome video before it, awakening video after it. So great.
You are an artist.
All good advice! (Dat azz.) Jonnie. I find your videos informative and tastefully entertaining.
this is badASS, keep videos like this coming man.
I feel violated.
Very good information as always!
Thank you I appreciate the positivity my man.
Hey, my friend Yasar from Germany watching the incredible Jonnie Candito as well. 😉 My best Regards to Germany, Adam from Spain💪💯%
When I see that Johnny Candito posts a new video, I prepare myself for the weirdness to come. LOL. Gotta love it.
COME BACK JONNIE!!!
Holy shit the juxtaposition of great information and gut bustingly funny is so good, best fitness channel
wow your videos are getting weirder and weirder... and I love it!
Jordan Galida I think its the best training program for natural powerlifters.
great video. I've been trying to figure this out for years. a lot of people overlook it. gotta get your autograph at the arnold
"Two lifeless lumps of man meat"--Candito! Love your videos, man: excellent lifting insight, that innocent Bambi face, yet all that meta-meaning and pun play. Thank you.
There's some meaning in the 10 x portion, but you have to download and slow it down to make it intelligible.
Interesting topic. Defiantly doing to test this out on my next deadlift day
I felt like I took a trip to a strange place, maybe the Black Lodge or that crazy game show in Requiem For a Dream at 5:59...well done, sir. Oh yeah, great and useful info too!
Now you do one for sumo :3
I will have to! I've been thinking about it for a while but need some more time with it to test some things out.
CanditoTrainingHQ You should wear some Cheetah tights for that one. You know... for puns sake... cus sumo is cheat:DDDDDDD
Near the 2/3rds point of the video, I thought I'd somehow accidentally gotten redirected onto Frank Yang's channel.
dude you're a trippy man
Yup, best Candito vid thus far haha and great info too helped a lot!
great video you always provide great information along with spreading many lols, people who don't take the extra curriculars as a joke probably have a poor sense of humor. keep it up man thanks again for teaching us something new with every video!
How dare you make me wait a week without a new vid Jonnie! Clearly you do not take this relationship seriously :'(
Michael Mathews just shouted you out on his Muscle for Life podcast. Pretty awesome.

Just read about Lamar Gant, holy shit first man to lift 5 times his own bodyweight and also suffers from Scoliosis, damn son colour me impressed.
He is amazing! I loved his training philosophies too. A true legend in the iron game.
Thank you :-)
Mind blown at the ending.
I am definitely stronger with pushing from the inside of my feet, but I feel it would be unwise to ignore trying to develop strength on the outside as I'm still developing as a lifter and as a young adult. I've majorly improved my general balance and developed my quads because I worked hard on this weak point for a long time.
Dude you're my hero..
Fuck this video is gold on so many levels.
