Open boxes are how leaders are now, rocket launchers have cut outs at the back so he can hold them, the backward butterfly and legs being so far down are so his wings can still move in dino mode.
Was going to say the same thing about the legs being so far down and about the weapons too.
BB Megs, current runs of Rise Primal, Sandstorm by Darude... all open box leaders. How'd he not notice?

I've asked him about ROTB Primal and BB Megatron and he said that he doesn't have either of them. Sandstorm is voyager scale so I'd assume that he was packed in an open box for the same reason SS86 Springer is.

It’s like Swoop was a complete afterthought done by other people in a rush. As is, he could only have a chance of a legacy if he was added to the channel’s rogues' gallery along with Earthrise Cliffjumper.
86 Swoop doesn't deserve it.
He's not bad, not good, just average.
If it weren't the first time the Generations victory tour (which started with Siege because TR has universal headmasters and a lot of POTP's original Deluxes and Voyagers are bad) visited Swoop, he would've been very forgettable.
It feels as if they grabbed Core Class Swoop and just upscaled it and added as little as possible.
I think I am waiting for the next Volcanicus squad that is all voyagers or leaders.
At least Swoop was still Leader class. There were a shocking amount of rumors over the years stating he'd be a Voyager. WTF. Even worse, the number of fans claiming to be ok with that. Double WTF. All this low-key swoop'hate in the fandom.

@@Gametester110-qf8vs Again, have you watched the video? Size isn´t the only issue. Accuracy is also bad, robot arms don´t hide at all, articulation is limited even for a voyager, and the accesories are a joke. Selling it at Voyager price would be fair.
Okay I’m gonna be honest I love this guy. I admit, he should’ve been bigger and skinnier, but I still like him. He looks so good with the team, but i completely understand the disappointment.
I hate how Hasbro decided to cheap out on Swoop's scale, especially since none of next year's Studio Series Leaders will be that scale (ROTB Apelinq & 86 Galvatron are Retools/Repaints respectively, and AOE Prime and 86 Megatron are Voyager Scale) Also, all of the modern Leader Classes have open boxes, with the first Leaders to do so being Bumblebee Concept Megatron and the Package Refresh of ROTB Optimus Primal.

If you go by the Sunbow Chart yes. But if you go by the show, he was always shown to be about the exact same size as the others.

I think the open leader boxes is just, what they do now. Which is sad since I loved the massive artwork the 86 Dinobots had.
Swoop seems like a figure that is cursed by the “wideness lense” which makes it look 5 times wider than it actually is, but I will not deny that I thought he was going to be bigger. And the alt mode, ouch.
I may still get this guy, but I feel like I want to get the other members of the team first. Grimlock and Snarl are the ones that come to mind, being my favorite Dinobots.
It's weird that they went to the closed boxes for like 2 figures then back again immediately.
The altmode is the thing I can't forgive. Everything else could have been fine.
Snarl is a good pick. Sludge is amazing if you get one with Good QC.

I would definitely like to get sludge. Even if the joints could be a tad loose. But you could say that with every figure in transformers.

Screw the Sunbow Size Chart. I hate that chart so much. It's never correct, the show always disagreed with it. It is no authority on how the scaling should be done.
Oh I should also point out that According to the Sunbow Chart, The Dinobots aren't like 50% bigger than Optimus.

Power of the primes swoop compacts down far better and has smaller arms thag tuck in more.
Also the legs form a proper back pack for the pterosaur mode and the pterosaur feet aren't as far down the figures body as the 86 version.

The most noticeable thing I hate about the new figure is the toucan looking head sculpt which looks nothing like a pterosaur head.
To me the 86 figure looks ugly in pterosaur mode.

swoop has always been my favourite dinobot and seeing that dino head sorta disappointed me, still one of my favourite figures of 2024
I'm honestly just happy to have SS86 Swoop to have a complete set of G1 Dinobots. I keep my Transformers in box anyways, so his faults aren't a problem for me. But yes, Hasbro could have done better.
I agree with the issue with the Dino mode head. It doesn’t bother me that much, but it should have looked more like what’s shown on the box art.
Otherwise, I’m perfectly happy with this guy. It’s easily my favorite Swoop figure Hasbro has made, though that wouldn’t have been hard to accomplish for me since I hated how the POTP Swoop’s dino head didn’t like staying on for Dino mode, and TFA Swoop felt weird for me when getting him into robot mode since things mainly rested in place rather than tabbing together. Of course I do see some of the complaints and desires other people would have for this figure, and while I agree with some of it, it doesn’t affect the fun I have with this guy.
The only massive thing I’d say that Hasbro should have done, at the least, with this figure is also include Slag and Sludge’s swords as well. That way we could have solid plastic versions of those instead of the rubbery plastic ones that come with the comic Grimlock.
However, regardless of that, it is still a figure I’m happy with, and I’m glad to cap off the 86 Dinobots with him.

Yes it was frustraiting how much his head liked to droop, but why was that the more accurate head?
The fact that they didn't pad the box out with a bunch of accessories is such an insult.

My favorite part of my Swoop is that it has 2 right feet. Which affects nothing except tabbing in to the back in dino mode

I could forgive most of this aside from the robot legs in alt mode. Even G1 swoop can get them high up on the back.
Yeah I don't know how they failed this part so bad. Like Not only is it inaccurate, not only does it remove the articulation. It just looks TERRIBLE too.

Fantastic review PerspectiveEnd!!! It stinks that Swoop, being the last of the SS86 Dinobots released, ended up being the weakest of them all. It makes the SS86 DInobots end on a whimper, instead of a grand finale. lol After watching your review I'm now super glad that I was able to get Swoop for only $38 from Amazon, due to his box being ripped up. Keep on being amazing.
That price would make this thing go down a lot better. This could have passed for a voyager.

The only flaw with the Package claim is that's just what they're doing with Leader class figures now. Optimus Primal got a rerelease and he's got the new open face. But since he's pretty much just a Voyager plus too i have better evidence. The Bumblebee movie Megatron has the open face box snd that's a modern Leader class through and through.
Yeah I didn't think it was my most convening argument, it's just something that makes him stand out against the other two recent Dinobots.

The rockets are missing the ends so that he can hold them
If they wanted him to be able to do that, they could have just extended the Pegs.
Only things to think on here are that Chug Leaders have had open boxes all year, that's not a new feature. And the missile launchers having the backs cut off means he can hold them, if that was filled out then they'd clash against his forearms all the time. I picked him up the other day and while I agree he was probably upscaled I really don't have an issue with that. He's fine, he completes a set, and now I have the 5 on my shelf together and that rocks.

I just got this guy today and I don't know if it's my blind optimism that the entire SS dinobot cast is perfectly made or my genuine opinion but......he's great. What you pointed out is understandable, I think Swoop would look a bit better if he was slimmed down and the kinda crappy alt mode but that's about it. From Grimlock to now, these have been very solid
Now if Joe Hasbro doesn't make a paddles, then I'll really start getting disappointed
I'm glad that you aren't disappointed like I am, though it having a "Kind of Crappy Altmode" is kind of a big issue in my book.

And this figure is the reason why I've not liked every single Dinobot, because for every one they feel like they've cheaped out in some way, some more than others. But this one reeeeeally shows the flaws. The only one I'd say they did perfect was Grimlock, and Hasbro KNOWS this since they've redecoed the figure 4 TIMES NOW. Then it went downhill with Slug and Sludge, went back up with Snarl, and then back down again with Swoop. What has this rollercoaster of confusion been the last few years?
What's wrong with Sludge? His engineering is the most complext of the team. And he's the heaviest. He can have QC issues, or not if you are like me.
@PerspectiveEnd I don't know, the QC obviously is a gamble in of itself which you shouldn't have to do with a figure that costs as much as it does, but also the fact that the Dino head is a seperate piece you have to attach yourself and can be a loose fit from my experience with mine, the transformation is REALLY finicky with having to push parts past things which can stress the plastic out, and the Dino mode literally has an entire hole in the underside like FOC Grimlock did way back when. He was definitely the lowest point of the team bar none. And weight is NOT a reason to put this figure up above all the others, yes weight is good, but all the plastic feels hollow on every dinobot, so that shouldn't count

mainly as he's the first decent SWOOP weve ever got in ireland (being tied to the UK market meant we never got G1 swoop) . as a comics fan the scale doesnt bother me as he was always portrayed as the smallest and weakest of the dinos so it fits and im just happy to FINALLY have a team of chunky dinobots that in scale with the deluxe class figs look like they stepped right outta series one of the cartoon.
THIS is a team i can see fighting galvatron.

Robot mode is passable, the alt mode is bloody awful and I had to check a few times to see if I had transformed it right, but yep it was that friggin' basic. Oh and my version had 2 left feet so the legs couldn't tab onto the back (I did get it exchanged, but the qc issue amused the shop workers). This is up there with the worst leader class award alongside Blitzwing.
This would upset me, but I'm more angry at schools and children for being the reason transformers one comes out 11th Oct in England.

We’ve seen what they can do with a leader budget for Dinobots 4 times before this yet where budget or where bulk. Also with how the figure is proportional and the Dino head shape what photos were they using as references

This one hurts and infuriates me so much, Swoop is genuinely my favorite Dinobot so to see him done THIS poorly when every other member was given more respect and care is just infuriating. The only thing SS86 swoop did worth a damn is convince me to write off the whole team and save my money by not hunting down all of the Dinobots for my shelf if my favorite one was pre-fucked.
The odds of us getting another Swoop within the next few years are stupidly low so this is it. This is the legacy of Swoop, a perpetual afterthought that didn’t even get a quarter of the care the other members did to the point he feels like an upscaled Core class.
To be clear this thing isn't Dire, it's not terrible. It's just worse in all ways than his team. I still to an extent like it, but I am disappointed, and I wouldn't say it's a reason to avoid the rest of the team, because Snarl, Sludge, and Grimlock are all in the running for the best figures any of them have ever gotten.
But yes it is heartbreaking to see him get this phoned in. I swear it is a Deluxe who they just realized they could upscale for more money.

I could see a design for this fixing the legs where the alt mode legs are on hinges but hollow so that even tho they are hollow they can still at least move forward and just add hinges and locking tabs for the legs so that it's able to do what it's supposed to do in the first place

I’m surprised you didn’t point out the missing red paint on Swoop’s ankles, but it is a pretty minor flaw in an otherwise good paint job
Another problem the figure has, is that the circular transformation slots inside the chest end up scratching bits of paint off the circular pegs on his dino head
Also my copy’s left shoulder doesn’t like pegging in, making the possibility of further paint chipping worse
It’s kinda neat they kept his waist swivel, even if that meant sacrificing the lower jaw, tbh I kinda gotten used to it (funnily enough 86 Slag has a similar issue)
Although at times I’m trying to pose him I worry the waist or thighs might end up scratching the bottom tip of his beak, and fiddling with the beak could end up dislodging the shoulder or worse scratch up his gold cheeks
Out of all the problems I really wish they figured out a better way of connecting his shoulders to his pteranodon head, but other than that I still like the figure despite it’s flaws

My coppies shoulders don't peg in at all, they are fully loose all the time.
There are so many ways they could have included a waist without doing what they did it's insane.
Of all the problems, I just wish the Atlmode head looked right.

I rewatched a majority of Season 1 and 2 a few months ago out of boredom and I can say that he was more often then not, always shorter, especially to when the team was lined up, this thing’s height is damn near perfect to when they usually stand in a line
Just be happy he wasn’t made as a voyager because I clocked it at 3 times in the show he and Snarl were miniscule next to the other three, about Optimus height

My Sludge was absolutely terrible, which probably softens the disappointment that Hasbro phoned it in with Swoop, because I had already made peace with the fact that we weren't getting a perfect team of Dinobots. The price point on Swoop is obviously ridiculous, but it feels like Hasbro knows people will buy this regardless to complete the set. Sludge and Slag were let down by QC, but Swoop failed at the design stage, and I can't help but feel corners were cut because it's the last one, and they already had a lot of collectors by the balls for that reason.
Yeah that's really the Tragedy of Sludge. He feels like the one they tried the hardest on, and then the QC was a complete crapshoot. I'm so glad I got a good copy, because I love that figure, but way too many of them were terrible.
3:57 This is so weird. Both of your figures legs have hard ratchets while mine are soft ratchets. Mine make no sounds at all when moving them even though I can feel the click of the ratchet teeth. I wonder why is this inconsistent.
Cause Ratchets are ALWAYS inconsistent. And if you notice mines sound way different. The left leg is so much louder and sharper than the right one.
The Mandela Effect is probably thanks to Fall of Cybertron (and the subsequent figures by Planet X), where Swoop actually was much smaller than the others. Lookin' up pics that show all five, the Planet X FoC Dinobots were like:
• Grimlock & Sludge - Leader
• Slag & Snarl - Voyager
• Swoop - Double Seaweed Deluxe 😏
I think that Swoop's biggest problem is that Hasbruh took waaaaaayyy too many of the dumb design decisions from the PotP Swoop. "BuT wHy ThO"!? This mofo doesn't have a forced Combiner gimmick, nor does it have to be a pretool for someone else (cuz PotP Swoop was very obviously the base for the retooling that became PotP Cutthroat), so why copy so much of what the smaller figure did (and in the case of the wings, do a poorer job of it)!? Not that it matters, like Grimlock & Slag, I've so far never seen Swoop in stores, and I probably won't ever see Swoop, either. Not sure wtf retailers got against Grimlock, Slag, or Swoop, yet they got NO problem with quarter-assed stocking of Sludge & Snarl...
That may be the source, or it may be a symptom of it. It may have already been assumed he would be a smaller dude.

Swoop is my brother’s favorite dinobot and he’s been wanting the 86 one,
Hopefully he likes it more than me.
And I get it. Grimlock is my High Key Favorite, because Grimlock, and Sludge is my Lowkey favorite, because he's the dumbest one in a team of idiots, so that's insanely endearing, but Swoop I think is like the most stylish one.
He's kind of in a way my second favorite so it hurts to see him done so wrong.

It's not bad, if you mount it on a flight stand. You can also compress the neck a little giving him bit less neck in alt mode.
You didn't bring up the worst thing about Swoop, separating the chest. That Adam Driver Barrel-chest does not like to untab too easy, you need to use the swords or a screwdriver to pry it apart.
This will not be the worst figure that we were all excited for. Wait until 86 Megatron comes out... another flipping Siege variant, upscaled and redeco'd with bigger treads... this time in the front of the figure.

When I first heard the listing for him, I was expecting air razor level wings. I knew he was gonna be a giant deluxe but those wings was suppose to compensate. But then my fear that he's just a pterodactyl plane came true..
I at least expected the altmode to look right. Like I could have tolerated brick wings, if it at least looked ok.

Slag was at least trying, even if he constantly falls apart.
My biggest issue with him, besides size, is the dino mode. You cannot convince me that they couldn't copy the Gigapowers transformation in a leader budget and have the arms collapse on themselves, then into the torso and given him articulated dino feet
Even Slag, the previously worst Dinobot, is a 6/10 because the yeam ruled so much. And now this comes snd its a 5/10, probably closer to a 4. MASSIVE letdown
