I’m still trying to figure out why 86 ultra magnus has detachable limbs(I know the movie scene when he explodes) It’s the combiner attachment point but I haven’t seen any one actually use them for a combiner.
Huh... that was a mistake on my behalf, I've tried it myself, they intentionally sized these ports differently, they just barely don't fit. But not in eight if I get a different one that maybe it will kind of way, they are clearly designed to be slightly different and prevents you from doing what you want.
I have a similair problem with kingdom/genselects cyclonus's light piping where I just love how it looks when its lit up and then has the eyes oh so subtly painted for when its not, but the hecking neck ball socket is in clear plastic (trust me, I disassembled the head for the sole puurpose of finding out that the ball socket is clear plastic)
@@PerspectiveEnd I only really noticed it because I was hyperanalizing his neck. Why was I hyperanalizing his neck? To figure out if the clear part for his light piping was used for his neck, because I found the idea that it was used exclusively in his eyes a bit suspicious.
Man I'm super undecided. The more I see if this guy the more I want it. But I already have a great Ultra Magnus with the Takara Legends version, that already basically does everything you'd want an Ultra Magnus to do. Maybe if this goes on sale I might pick it up, because it does look fantastic. But I also don't need it, so I wonder if it's just a waste. Such is the conundrum of the TF collector
After having Rodimus for a year, i have accepted Rodimus as Commander class. I don't really mind with the size of him since he has other aspects that i think can make up the commander class. Unfortunately the quality is not worth that price, that's my biggest issue about him. Magnus on the other hand looks really solid here and there, i hope i can get him too one day.
86 Magnus is the best Magnus we've had in a while. I will admit I do like the weird siege/earthrise versions but this autobot just screams "I can't deal with that now" Another nice video PE
It is definitely better than any of the versions that came out since Siege. I wanted to love those so much back in the day, I was so excited for them, but they are at best fine.
I get your point about the size comparison to Grimlock, but Magnus is supposed to be a big boy. Heck, even his G1 design was just a White Optimus Prime figure, that slotted into the 'Power Armour' converted trailer. Despite his slightly tricky shoulder connections, I LOVE this figure. Finally did G1-Style Ultra Magnus some justice.
Indeed he is supposed to be a big boy, and if he was the same size as Grimlock I could have been fine with that, but Grimlock and the Dinobots should be the biggest.
And a couple times in the mainline over the years. As far back as hftd ratchet and lockdown sharing the same emp gun, and evasion Optimus keeping dotm megatron's gun.
Technically that was Takara, that was only done with Mail In Vouchers, and it was only in Japan. So it a handicapped version done by a different company.
With the added budget of commander class, Hasbro could've pulled off the albino prime gimmick, instead what we got was a more complicated Combiner Wars Magnus.
Is it weird that Ultra Magnus would get a new mold for Studio Series but yet Legacy reused the Kingdom mold for Galvatron so if you pit this Ultra Magnus against your Kingdom Galvatron, he looks way bigger than his rival
Galvatron was mainly reissued due to poor retail distribution towards the end of the Kingdom line; along with Hasbro slightly remolding the shoulders due to the complaints about them. However that Galvatron did come out before Hasbro decided to start giving new molds to 86 figures that already had figures in the WFC trilogy; and that was probably due to the failure of 86 Coronation Starscream. However if we ever do get an 86 Galvatron, they could end up making him bigger than the Kingdom/Legacy version. In truth they mainly just need to give him a more toon accurate head and purple color scheme, but they could potentially give us a slightly new mold should an 86 version of him ever happen.
Are you going to keep the trend of roasting Rodimus every time you review a new commander? Or are you going to swap punching bags once the 86 SS Commader Optimus prime comes out? Looking forward to that
I'm not sure yet. I don't think I roasted Rodimus every time up till now, but if I did I suppose then it's because of buried aggression I have toward it.
After all this time I didn't realize until yesterday that those pillars on his shoulders have clamps that can lock the arms in place when you transform him into alt mode
Got him a few weeks ago, im absolutely bewitched by how good he looks and transforms. Heck, the width of his upper chest doesnt bother me anymore since i realised that the width of his legs still reaches wider and farther out than the upper chest, even with them standing straight up Also i avoided the cab detaching during transformation by just keeping collapsed into the carrier with the wheels folded, holding it in place
I totally get why the figure is great. Personally not having to worry about the thing coming apart at all ever I find to be a lot more desirable than just being careful.
I don’t think anyone really cares, but his smaller gun is from the scene where they first land on Junk and he picks up a welding-torch-esque thing. It’s that gun.
What's funny is that crossed my mind, but I wrote it off. I was like "is that the welder he used", but then I thought about Blurrs being part of his hand so I assumed I was wrong.
Holy shit! I finally have a way to relate to you about scale haha! That feeling you felt is how I felt about siege Megatron as my Megatron. Because my collection is a mixmach of figures from between the last 20 years, and that Megatron was such a small voyager, that! That feeling was POTENT
Commander class Ultra Magnus is a awesome Studio Series 86 figure. But I consider him my first masterpiece figure amongst my Transformers generations collection. Due to the size scale, transformation, and engineering.
My problem with this guy was and remains that his head is TINY - like 2/3 to 1/2 as big as it should be to look in scale with his body. Fortunately I did manage to get one of the Combiner Wars IDW style UM toys, abs with properly assembled shoulders too, so even if it's not screen accurate and I was never into the comics he's still good enough. (Especially when it's EXACTLY the same size as G1 Magnus, which I actuall got a trailer sectiopn of from a yard sail and Dremeled the back of the head on a Classics white OP Magnus so the helmet would fit on, as the Classics OP mold actually snaps right into place on the G1 armor suit if you fold the arms onto the back and leave the leg side panels in truck configuration along the sides of the thighs.
commander class is probably the best thing weve gotten in recent years, aside from rodimus theyre all incredible "best of year" level stuff. I also dont have anger with rodimus like most of you guys, i bought him for $40 so hes basicly a voyager with a free trailer to me. Rodimus is in no way bad, but he needed to be alot better
I wouldn't be angry at Rodimus if I got him for 40 bucks, so that's fair. I think the 86 Dinobots might please me more than most of the Commanders, but they are all quite good.
Theres a panel in the stomach you forgot to flip out. You have to push it out from the back just after you rotate the forward wheel lock of the lower level with the cab in the extended forward possition.
I wouldn’t get him due to how expensive and big the toy is but based off the reviews, this is way better than the Siege version. But I’ll still keep my Siege version due to needing an Ultra Magnus
As someone who doesn't have a figure of Ultra Magnus. I'm wondering, what would be the version to get? I don't keep up with all the latest information so no idea if another is due out anytime soon or is rumored, if it looked like another version was due in the next year or so, I might hold off. I'd like an awesome figure, once I have it, I doubt I'd ever replace for a newer model
This is the most recent version, there is not likely to be another one for at least a period of years, and it is not likely to be as high quality as this one, as it is at the second biggest price point for a normal figure.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. Well that's that, this will be the version of Ultra Magnus I go for. Great content btw, since finding your channel I've binged quite a bit. Really appreciate hearing your opinions on the good and bad of figures.
This toy: “only the slimmest of chances allowed me to escape my siege mould prison, but let the universe howl in despair for I have returned” (For those wondering that’s a paraphrased quote from Darksied from justice league unlimited who shares a voice actor with prime Ultra Magnus)
Restock should be relatively soon, and that should hopefully come to places like BBTS first so if you can keep your eye out, Scalpers shouldn't be a problem.
@@PerspectiveEnd if hasbro will keep the trend of making the leader characters into commanders, then that would mean that when they do megatron, he'll be a Commander
I never got everyone’s problem with the matrixes being in every figure associated with them. If they didn’t do that, then everyone would complain that you have to buy a figure you possibly don’t want just to complete the one you do like MP-10 Optimus Prime and MP Hot Rod. Plus the matrices have never been intrusive, you just sit them in the chest and you leave them there, so what’s the issue?
My problem is just that I got so many now. I remember when I first got the Cybertron Optimus and he had a Matrix it was an event because that was like the first one ever. Now it's like more figures come with Matrixes than dont.
Not anyone consistently, but there are random people who do it for specific fingers. However I advise against using them, they tend to be extremely brittle.
@@PerspectiveEnd I thought to get into such a project cause majority of closed fist hands could be easily replaced while articulation greatly contributes to aesthetics of our poor chugs
Hey, Perspective, can I ask you something? I have the Ultra Magnus from Combiner Wars/Power of the Primes. You know, the one that comes with Minimus Ambus. I want to know if you can insert that Minimus Ambus inside this Commander UM´s body, even if I have to keep the tiny bastard in alt-mode for it. The cab seems pretty hollow in truck mode, so I bet I can fit it, but I am more interested in the robot mode. I bet you could use a Siege Micromaster as substitute if you don´t have it. Anyway, great video as always!
Boy if only you had a figure like earth rise cliff jumber or something that was smaller and would fit on the trailer better. Oh well guess we're ignoring things that would conteract arguments lol
I gave the figure an Extremely positive review. I called it a Micro Masterpiece by the end. And clearly you've not been to this channel before, because the one figure everyone who watches me KNOWS I have is Earthrise Cliffjumper. But I don't want to use the Cartoonishly small cars. I want to use the Normal sized cars.
Imo Robot mode: SS86Kingdom Don’t get me wrong the SS86 figure is more articulated but I still don’t like how tall and wide he is (even though you’ve already expressed that in the video). I think Kingdom has the correct proportions and fits with the other chug figures perfectly. But yeah the SS86 figure has the correct vehicle mode unlike that afterthought we got with the Kingdom figure
The scale does bother me a bit, but I do find that it's proportionally better, as it's less stocky, though still too wide, and the 86's face doesn't remind me of Andy Dick so that helps.
Ultra Magnus was always one of my favorite characters from tf and im glad he get an absolutely amazing figure, even if I don't own him (Yet.......I hope)
And left the Body in robot mode? I'm sure. It's not hard to do. Or like the other way, where it's just his head sitting there with no body? Probably as a joke.
I kinda wish you had mentioned how if the shoulders rotated on the other side of the hinge he would have more range of movement, once you notice it you really cant unsee it and I feel that it is a blemish on an otherwise excellent figure
@@PerspectiveEnd I think he would be better with a more ss hotrod style of shoulders where it rotates at the shoulder than what magnus has where it rotates on the torso. Like with hotrod when you do a shoulder rotation from a t-pose his arms come in and can grab the matrix, but when magnus does it he is still in a t-pose so you have to awkwardly use his bicep swivel and untab his shoulders to somewhat get his hands in front
@@PerspectiveEnd another figure I think I should use as an example is jhaxus, instead of having 2 bicep swivels in a t-pose like magnus, jhihaxus can swing his arms forward
@@heavenlyderpfowl1180 I'd tend to disagree. Hotrod shoulders are very limiting in the poses you can make, and still have look correct. And with shoulders like that, his pylons would bet more in the way of his head more quickly.
It makes me so damn sad I wasn't able to preorder it when it came out. And now the figure goes for 150-200 and I can't afford all that for one figure. It's so awesome
Ehh, I'll skip on the "upgrade" part. Notly does the cap stay in by itself just fine, but Hasbro or Third Party might make a proper cabthat transforms into a "white prime" robot for him and still combines with the trailer to make Ultra Magnus' traditional super mode.
I got Magnus a week ago and for some reason his box was really sealed shut so I audibly said “damnit open!” And realized what I had done

@@PerspectiveEnd what a miss opportunity
I have a similair problem with kingdom/genselects cyclonus's light piping where I just love how it looks when its lit up and then has the eyes oh so subtly painted for when its not, but the hecking neck ball socket is in clear plastic (trust me, I disassembled the head for the sole puurpose of finding out that the ball socket is clear plastic)
Wait, Cyclonus's head is on a clear plastic joint? I never noticed that.
@@PerspectiveEnd I only really noticed it because I was hyperanalizing his neck. Why was I hyperanalizing his neck? To figure out if the clear part for his light piping was used for his neck, because I found the idea that it was used exclusively in his eyes a bit suspicious.
The ultra chad has finally gotten his review!
It took me long enough.
That back is cleannn
Very much so.
I completely agree with Grimlock!
Every time I see them together it pisses me off!
It's the one problem I have with this, if it was just a little smaller it could have fit perfectly, bigger than Rodimus, not bigger than Grimlock.
I understand, though for me I always want a figure regardless if I have a near perfect version of it already, if the ne one looks interesting or fun.
I don't think the Engineering on Rodimus was good enough for commander class, I think at most that's a 60 dollar figure.
86 Magnus is the best Magnus we've had in a while. I will admit I do like the weird siege/earthrise versions but this autobot just screams "I can't deal with that now"
Another nice video PE
It is definitely better than any of the versions that came out since Siege. I wanted to love those so much back in the day, I was so excited for them, but they are at best fine.
Siege Magnus is gine, even with the whole "White optimus armored up" thing
Got him awesome figure.
He is yes.
3:55 Didn’t they technically do that with the masterpiece seekers? (That whole thing with Starscream’s coronation crown and cape)
I mean we've had the Abino one 3 times in a row, I think it's good they went this way again for once.
Well this is an 86 figure, not a Legacy one so it makes some sense, though I wouldn't call Galvatron UMs rival, more Cyclonus.
I absolutely love The trailer on the vehicle mode
It is really cool.
After all this time I didn't realize until yesterday that those pillars on his shoulders have clamps that can lock the arms in place when you transform him into alt mode
I had to say this is an honorable mention on my top 10 list because, honestly, it wouldn’t be fair because the big toy is almost always the best.
My Year End lists, make no excuses, Everything I bought that year has the potential to be on it, if it's from that year.
BABE!!!!!! WAKE UP PE JUST POSTED 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Got him a few weeks ago, im absolutely bewitched by how good he looks and transforms. Heck, the width of his upper chest doesnt bother me anymore since i realised that the width of his legs still reaches wider and farther out than the upper chest, even with them standing straight up
Also i avoided the cab detaching during transformation by just keeping collapsed into the carrier with the wheels folded, holding it in place
The Megatron did need to be a bit bigger yeah.
Commander class Ultra Magnus is a awesome Studio Series 86 figure. But I consider him my first masterpiece figure amongst my Transformers generations collection. Due to the size scale, transformation, and engineering.
I mean he is basically a scaled down upgrade of the MP.
Remember when you said masterpiece skyfire was the figure practically tailor made for you? This is that figure for me
My problem with this guy was and remains that his head is TINY - like 2/3 to 1/2 as big as it should be to look in scale with his body.
I find that the head looks to be the right size for the height, but the width is obviously a problem.
commander class is probably the best thing weve gotten in recent years, aside from rodimus theyre all incredible "best of year" level stuff.
For scale I'll always prefer the Kingdom Magnus. But I still want this SS one.
The kingdom one is more properly in scale.
@@PerspectiveEnd :)
Agh Ultra Magnus, my favorite transformer of all time, glad that he got the justice he deserved.
He honestly gets a lot of really good figures.
@@PerspectiveEnd , yeah but I like that hasbro decided to not have him partsform (except the missiles) and make the truck and trailer one piece.
I wouldn’t get him due to how expensive and big the toy is but based off the reviews, this is way better than the Siege version. But I’ll still keep my Siege version due to needing an Ultra Magnus
I understand that. It is a pretty costly figure, though I do think it's worth it.
I saw this figure in the background of the 3rd Halloween special. I KNEW IT WAS HIMMM!!!!
This is probably my second favourite transformer of all time
What is?
Kingdom warpath even tho mine is loose everywhere it’s still a good figure I just got a copy with awful qc
Do you think the alt mode trailer has poor clearance from the road/floor? Or is that just me. Still great.
Mine's not dragging anywhere if that's what you are asking?
He has a deliciously shiny chest.
Also, Looking at the kingdom and 86 side by side is like a low budget cosplay compared to a 1 million dollar statue.
I don't know that I'd call it a million dollar statue, but it is still like a Bad Cosplay vs the a Good one.
This toy: “only the slimmest of chances allowed me to escape my siege mould prison, but let the universe howl in despair for I have returned”
(For those wondering that’s a paraphrased quote from Darksied from justice league unlimited who shares a voice actor with prime Ultra Magnus)
I want magnus so bad but i havent been able to find him. Any idea when or if a restock will happen or will i have to deal with scalper prices
Restock should be relatively soon, and that should hopefully come to places like BBTS first so if you can keep your eye out, Scalpers shouldn't be a problem.
Don’t the panels on the legs and the arms fold down to create a ramp?
KIND OF. Like you can bend the arms down and use them like that, but it's not exactly convincing.
I wonder how they'll do the commander 86 optimus prime this year, if that rumor is true, which i hope it is
I'm very interested to see what that winds up looking like.
I like this figure a lot but mine as the most tiny but frustrating paint chip on his shoulder and it pissed me off to look at it
Hey man! Feels like it's been a while. Sorry to hear about your paint chip.
The smaller gun is the welding tool he uses when they crash on junkion
You know I thought maybe that's what it was, but I just didn't think it was likely.
r u gonna do and update on what’s the best ultra magnus
I do plan to yes.
Hey community, do you know anyone 3D printing articulated hands for chugs?
Not anyone consistently, but there are random people who do it for specific fingers. However I advise against using them, they tend to be extremely brittle.
@@PerspectiveEnd I thought to get into such a project cause majority of closed fist hands could be easily replaced while articulation greatly contributes to aesthetics of our poor chugs
This is so good i built a padio to get enough allowance to buy one off amazon
Nice! Glad to hear you were able to get one before they were sold out.
@PerspectiveEnd boy somebody's bad at detecting sarcasm. Obviously I know you have him that's why I brought him up duh dude 🙄
@PerspectiveEnd the last point you made is pretty valid however he is small but it's the one time he'd be useful
I mean Sarcasm through text is hard to parse. I also just woke up when I responded to you.
I still need to get my hands on this guy and I'm trying so hard to find him at a not scalped price
He should be back in stock aroudn the place soon.
Imo
Robot mode: SS86Kingdom
Don’t get me wrong the SS86 figure is more articulated but I still don’t like how tall and wide he is (even though you’ve already expressed that in the video). I think Kingdom has the correct proportions and fits with the other chug figures perfectly.
But yeah the SS86 figure has the correct vehicle mode unlike that afterthought we got with the Kingdom figure
The scale does bother me a bit, but I do find that it's proportionally better, as it's less stocky, though still too wide, and the 86's face doesn't remind me of Andy Dick so that helps.
ok now i really dont know which ultra magnus to get the CW or this.
CW is cheaper, but I've never handled it.
Ultra Magnus was always one of my favorite characters from tf and im glad he get an absolutely amazing figure, even if I don't own him (Yet.......I hope)
I am still waiting for mine! Wait feel like an eternity!
Well hopefully it will be over soon prime.
Has anyone solely transformed the truck cab?
And left the Body in robot mode? I'm sure. It's not hard to do. Or like the other way, where it's just his head sitting there with no body? Probably as a joke.
I kinda wish you had mentioned how if the shoulders rotated on the other side of the hinge he would have more range of movement, once you notice it you really cant unsee it and I feel that it is a blemish on an otherwise excellent figure
I'm not sure what you are pointing out?
It should hopefully come back into stock in places like BBTS and Amazon.
wonder if this will be retooled into powermaster prime like the CW version
I don't know, I don't think it seems likely with this one, but I also feel like there's a huge chance I'm wrong about that.
My Ultra Magnus from Hasbro Korea has a loose right shoulder joint.
I do hear that is a possibility. Have you tried any Joint Coom on it?
Where would this sit on what’s the best ultra magnus?
oh i want this so badly i never found a siege or kingdom one and i love magnus ps the tiny gun looks like the g1 toys gun for me
It's hopefully coming back in stock most places soon.
How I refuse to buy has to online if you can buy it in stores and i can’t find it anywhere
Ehh, I'll skip on the "upgrade" part. Notly does the cap stay in by itself just fine, but Hasbro or Third Party might make a proper cabthat transforms into a "white prime" robot for him and still combines with the trailer to make Ultra Magnus' traditional super mode.
It might be a bit of QC that causes it to be a bit looser on mine, but at least I got the good shoulders.
